Saturn in the 2nd House

Saturn, a malefic graha signifying longevity, karma, labour, servants, old age, iron, coal, and delay itself, placed in the bhava of wealth, family, speech, food, accumulated assets, early childhood, immediate family — that pairing is the whole of what Saturn in the 2nd house means before a chart is opened. The 2nd house does not look to Saturn for its significations though — it looks to Jupiter for wealth, Mercury for speech — so Saturn here colours this bhava’s matters without representing them, and the karaka’s own condition has to be read separately from this placement.

Under Kaal Purush the 2nd Is Taurus

In the natural chart the 2nd house is Taurus, so Saturn here is in a friend's sign. The bhava answers to Venus, and the two agree about each other: each counts the other a friend, so nothing in Saturn’s dealings with the lord of the 2nd pulls against itself — the terms on which this bhava delivers savings and wealth are set by Venus’s own placement alone. Taurus is spanned by the second, third and fourth padas of Krittika, Rohini and the first and second padas of Mrigashira, lorded in that order by the Sun, the Moon and Mars. None of the three is Saturn, so Saturn in the 2nd always reports to another graha at the nakshatra level, and the pada decides which of the three — a finer cut on savings and wealth than the rashi gives, and the reason two people with Saturn in the same 2nd house read differently.

Saturn is documented as doing well in the 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th and badly in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, and the 2nd is in neither list. That absence is worth something: with no inherited verdict about Saturn here, the reading of the 2nd falls entirely to the rashi, the dispositor and the dasha.

• Capricorn, which Saturn owns, is the 10th — a trine, the most supportive of the distances from the 2nd.
• Aquarius, which Saturn owns, is the 11th — a square, both of them kendra positions from the 2nd.
• Saturn exalts in Libra, the 7th — a 6/8, the shashtashtaka distance the tradition singles out from the 2nd.
• Saturn falls in Aries, the 1st — a 2/12, the gain-and-loss pairing from the 2nd.
• Bhavat bhavam from the 2nd gives the 3rd, courage, siblings, short travels, communication, hands and arms, neighbours, hobbies — a Parashari extension, read as Saturn’s secondary indicator for the same matters.
• Venus, dispositor of the 2nd, also owns the 7th — so whatever Saturn does in the 2nd is routed through a lord whose other business is spouse / partner.

The body reading. The 2nd bhava is face, mouth, teeth, tongue, throat and the right eye, while Saturn governs bones, teeth, joints, the nervous system, knees and skin; medical astrology reads the 2nd for Saturn where those two overlap, and their not overlapping is as informative as their doing so. When Saturn Is Actually in Your 2nd House

Saturn occupies only 2 rashis across 2026–2027, so Saturn transits the 2nd house for only 2 of the twelve ascendants in that whole period — Aquarius, Pisces lagnas.
