Krishna Chaturthi Tithi: Every Day It Held Sunrise, 2026 and 2027

12 days in 2026 · 12 in 2027 · sunrise at New Delhi

Krishna Chaturthi is the 19th of the 30 tithis, the dark fortnight’s 4th. A panchang names a day by the tithi running at sunrise, and between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2027 Krishna Chaturthi was the tithi at sunrise in New Delhi on 24 days: 12 in 2026 and 12 in 2027. Three times it began after one sunrise and ended before the next, so it named no day at all (between the sunrises of 6 January 2026 and 7 January 2026; 27 November 2026 and 28 November 2026; 25 January 2027 and 26 January 2027), and twice it held two sunrises in a row, naming two consecutive days (5 May 2026 and 6 May 2026; 22 July 2027 and 23 July 2027).

Its number, 4, makes Krishna Chaturthi a rikta (“empty”) tithi, one of the three the muhurat filter rejects in both fortnights, so none of its 24 days is offered as a muhurat day. A list of the days a tithi held sunrise is not a list of vrat days: an observance tied to a tithi is fixed by its own rule, which the festival pages apply one by one.

By weekday, Krishna Chaturthi held sunrise most often on Wednesdays (5 times) and least on Sundays (2): Sunday 2, Monday 3, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 5, Thursday 4, Friday 3, Saturday 4. Over two years that spread is chance, not a pattern; the weekday and the tithi run on unrelated cycles.

Festivals that fell on a Krishna Chaturthi day: Karva Chauth (29 October 2026) and Karva Chauth (19 October 2027).

In the cycle Krishna Chaturthi comes after Krishna Tritiya and before Krishna Panchami; all 30 are on the tithi index. For what the five limbs are and how a day’s panchang is read, see reading the panchang and the guide to choosing a day. This page in Hindi: कृष्ण चतुर्थी तिथि.
