Shukla Pratipada Tithi: Every Day It Held Sunrise, 2026 and 2027

Shukla Pratipada is the 1st of the 30 tithis, the bright fortnight’s 1st. A panchang names a day by the tithi running at sunrise, and between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2027 Shukla Pratipada was the tithi at sunrise in New Delhi on 22 days: 11 in 2026 and 11 in 2027. Four times it began after one sunrise and ended before the next, so it named no day at all (between the sunrises of 19 March 2026 and 20 March 2026; 15 June 2026 and 16 June 2026; 4 July 2027 and 5 July 2027; 30 September 2027 and 1 October 2027), and once it held two sunrises in a row, naming two consecutive days (9 December 2026 and 10 December 2026).

Its number, 1, is neither rikta nor among the tithis the muhurat filter favours. A list of the days a tithi held sunrise is not a list of vrat days: an observance tied to a tithi is fixed by its own rule, which the festival pages apply one by one.

The 22 Days, Month by Month

By weekday, Shukla Pratipada held sunrise most often on Wednesdays (5 times) and least on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays (2): Sunday 3, Monday 2, Tuesday 4, Wednesday 5, Thursday 2, Friday 2, Saturday 4. Over two years that spread is chance, not a pattern; the weekday and the tithi run on unrelated cycles.

Festivals that fell on a Shukla Pratipada day: Sharad Navratri begins (11 October 2026), Govardhan Puja (10 November 2026), Gudi Padwa (7 April 2027) and Govardhan Puja (30 October 2027).

In the cycle Shukla Pratipada comes after Amavasya and before Shukla Dwitiya; all 30 are on the tithi index. For what the five limbs are and how a day’s panchang is read, see reading the panchang and the guide to choosing a day. This page in Hindi: शुक्ल प्रतिपदा तिथि.
