Mercury Retrograde 2031: Dates, Signs and Stations

Three windows opening in 2031 · 67 days between stations · Pisces, Leo, Cancer and Scorpio

Mercury turns retrograde three times in 2031: 26 March to 18 April 2031, 29 July to 22 August 2031 and 20 November to 9 December 2031. Counting only the calendar days of 2031, Mercury is retrograde on 69 of them.

The first window: 26 March to 18 April, in Pisces

Mercury stations retrograde on 26 March 2031 at 25°27′ Pisces, in Revati, and stations direct on 18 April 2031 at 13°33′ Pisces, in Uttara Bhadrapada. Between the two stations it travels back 11.9° of the zodiac over 23 days.

25°27′ Pisces, the 26 March station, is in Revati pada 3, the Aquarius navamsa. 13°33′ Pisces, the 18 April station, is in Uttara Bhadrapada, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. The arc between them spans 4 padas, from Uttara Bhadrapada pada 4 up to Revati pada 3, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 26 March, backward until 18 April, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is debilitated in Pisces.

The whole 11.9° lies inside Pisces, so for the 26 March retrograde of 2031 there is no sign change to date: Mercury in Pisces covers all 23 days.

The site’s ingress, nakshatra and conjunction tables run from 2026 to 2028, so for the 2031 window they have nothing to add, and this page adds nothing in their place.

It begins 110 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 6 December 2030, and 90 days after that one ended.

The second window: 29 July to 22 August, in Leo and Cancer

Mercury stations retrograde on 29 July 2031 at 2°08′ Leo, in Magha, and stations direct on 22 August 2031 at 20°00′ Cancer, in Ashlesha. Between the two stations it travels back 12.1° of the zodiac over 24 days.

2°08′ Leo, the 29 July station, is in Magha pada 1, the Aries navamsa. 20°00′ Cancer, the 22 August station, is in Ashlesha, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. The arc between them spans 4 padas, from Ashlesha pada 2 up to Magha pada 1, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 29 July, backward until 22 August, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a friend's sign in Leo and in an enemy's sign in Cancer.

That arc crosses a sign boundary, so the 29 July retrograde of 2031 begins in Leo and ends in Cancer. The day of that backward re-entry is outside the 2026–2028 ingress table, so this page does not give one.

The site’s ingress, nakshatra and conjunction tables run from 2026 to 2028, so for the 2031 window they have nothing to add, and this page adds nothing in their place.

It begins 125 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 26 March 2031, and 102 days after that one ended.

The third window: 20 November to 9 December, in Scorpio

Mercury stations retrograde on 20 November 2031 at 21°45′ Scorpio, in Jyeshtha, and stations direct on 9 December 2031 at 5°31′ Scorpio, in Anuradha. Between the two stations it travels back 16.2° of the zodiac over 20 days.

21°45′ Scorpio, the 20 November station, is in Jyeshtha pada 2, the Capricorn navamsa. 5°31′ Scorpio, the 9 December station, is in Anuradha pada 1, the Leo navamsa. The arc between them spans 6 padas, from Anuradha pada 1 up to Jyeshtha pada 2, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 20 November, backward until 9 December, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a neutral sign in Scorpio.

The whole 16.2° lies inside Scorpio, so for the 20 November retrograde of 2031 there is no sign change to date: Mercury in Scorpio covers all 20 days.

The site’s ingress, nakshatra and conjunction tables run from 2026 to 2028, so for the 2031 window they have nothing to add, and this page adds nothing in their place.

One caution on the direct station of this window: it falls close to midnight IST, so another ephemeris, or a listing kept in another time zone, can put 9 December 2031 on the neighbouring day without either being wrong.

It begins 114 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 29 July 2031, and 90 days after that one ended.

How 2031 Compares With Mercury’s Other Windows

Across the 25 Mercury retrogrades the site computes from 2024 to 2031, a window lasts 20 to 24 days between stations and retraces 8.6° to 16.3°. The 2031 windows run 23 days (11.9°), 24 days (12.1°) and 20 days (16.2°).

Every date here is a day, never a time. A planet at a station is barely moving, so the minute it turns is the least stable figure in the table; for Mercury in 2031 the day is what two careful sources will agree on.
