Mercury Retrograde 2030: Dates, Signs and Stations

Three windows opening in 2030 · 67 days between stations · Aries, Leo, Sagittarius and Scorpio

Mercury turns retrograde three times in 2030: 13 April to 7 May 2030, 16 August to 8 September 2030 and 6 December to 26 December 2030. Counting only the calendar days of 2030, Mercury is retrograde on 81 of them, including the tail of the window that opened on 22 December 2029 and runs into 2030 until 11 January 2030.

The first window: 13 April to 7 May, in Aries

Mercury stations retrograde on 13 April 2030 at 13°31′ Aries, in Bharani, and stations direct on 7 May 2030 at 3°09′ Aries, in Ashwini. Between the two stations it travels back 10.4° of the zodiac over 24 days.

13°31′ Aries, the 13 April station, is in Bharani but within a quarter of a degree of its edge, which is inside the spread between ayanamsas, so a panchang on another ayanamsa may put it in the neighbouring nakshatra. 3°09′ Aries, the 7 May station, is in Ashwini, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. The arc between them spans 5 padas, from Ashwini pada 1 up to Bharani pada 1, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 13 April, backward until 7 May, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a neutral sign in Aries.

The whole 10.4° lies inside Aries, so for the 13 April retrograde of 2030 there is no sign change to date: Mercury in Aries covers all 24 days.

The site’s ingress, nakshatra and conjunction tables run from 2026 to 2028, so for the 2030 window they have nothing to add, and this page adds nothing in their place.

One caution on the direct station of this window: it falls close to midnight IST, so another ephemeris, or a listing kept in another time zone, can put 7 May 2030 on the neighbouring day without either being wrong.

It begins 112 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 22 December 2029, and 92 days after that one ended.

The second window: 16 August to 8 September, in Leo

Mercury stations retrograde on 16 August 2030 at 20°13′ Leo, in Purva Phalguni, and stations direct on 8 September 2030 at 6°49′ Leo, in Magha. Between the two stations it travels back 13.4° of the zodiac over 23 days.

20°13′ Leo, the 16 August station, is in Purva Phalguni, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. 6°49′ Leo, the 8 September station, is in Magha, close enough to a pada edge that the pada depends on the ayanamsa. The arc between them spans 5 padas, from Magha pada 3 up to Purva Phalguni pada 3, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 16 August, backward until 8 September, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a friend's sign in Leo.

The whole 13.4° lies inside Leo, so for the 16 August retrograde of 2030 there is no sign change to date: Mercury in Leo covers all 23 days.

The site’s ingress, nakshatra and conjunction tables run from 2026 to 2028, so for the 2030 window they have nothing to add, and this page adds nothing in their place.

It begins 125 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 13 April 2030, and 101 days after that one ended.

The third window: 6 December to 26 December, in Sagittarius and Scorpio

Mercury stations retrograde on 6 December 2030 at 7°34′ Sagittarius, in Mula, and stations direct on 26 December 2030 at 21°16′ Scorpio, in Jyeshtha. Between the two stations it travels back 16.3° of the zodiac over 20 days.

7°34′ Sagittarius, the 6 December station, is in Mula pada 3, the Gemini navamsa. 21°16′ Scorpio, the 26 December station, is in Jyeshtha pada 2, the Capricorn navamsa. The arc between them spans 6 padas, from Jyeshtha pada 2 up to Mula pada 3, and Mercury crosses every degree of it three times: forward before 6 December, backward until 26 December, and forward again afterwards. Mercury is in a neutral sign in Sagittarius and in a neutral sign in Scorpio.

That arc crosses a sign boundary, so the 6 December retrograde of 2030 begins in Sagittarius and ends in Scorpio. The day of that backward re-entry is outside the 2026–2028 ingress table, so this page does not give one.

The site’s ingress, nakshatra and conjunction tables run from 2026 to 2028, so for the 2030 window they have nothing to add, and this page adds nothing in their place.

It begins 112 days after the previous Mercury retrograde began on 16 August 2030, and 89 days after that one ended.

How 2030 Compares With Mercury’s Other Windows

Across the 25 Mercury retrogrades the site computes from 2024 to 2031, a window lasts 20 to 24 days between stations and retraces 8.6° to 16.3°. The 2030 windows run 24 days (10.4°), 23 days (13.4°) and 20 days (16.3°).

Every date here is a day, never a time. A planet at a station is barely moving, so the minute it turns is the least stable figure in the table; for Mercury in 2030 the day is what two careful sources will agree on.
