The reason a pandit asks for a birth chart before naming a ritual is that the 10th house is not a single thing to be strengthened. It is called Karma Bhava, and the tradition reads it through several layers at once. There is the sign on the cusp and the condition of that sign's lord — where that lord has gone, whether it is in a friendly sign or a hostile one, and whether it is aspected by benefics or by malefics. There is whatever sits in the house itself. There is the dashamsha, the tenth divisional chart, which classical practice consults specifically for profession rather than reading the birth chart alone. A prescription that ignores all of that and names a deity from the job title is guessing.

One detail from the classical strength calculations is worth knowing because it explains a pattern people notice on their own. Grahas are held to gain dig bala, directional strength, in particular quarters of the chart: the Sun and Mars in the 10th house, Jupiter and Mercury in the 1st, Saturn in the 7th, the Moon and Venus in the 4th. So the Sun or Mars standing in the 10th is read as a graha at full directional strength in the house of work — which is part of why authority, visibility and command are the language the texts use for those placements, and why the same placement in a different quarter reads quite differently. None of this is a forecast. It is a ranking, and a ranking is what a chart is for.

Timing is read from periods rather than from placements. Which mahadasha and antardasha a person is running, and which of those activate the 10th house or its lord, is the question a pandit is actually working on when they recommend a ritual now rather than later. What a chart will not produce is the year of a promotion. No placement dates an event in a working life, and any page that hands a reader such a figure has invented it.

What a Puja Is, and What It Is Not

A puja is worship. In the career context it usually has three parts: sankalpa, the stated intention, spoken aloud at the start so that the thing being asked for is named rather than left vague; the offering and the mantra, which is the body of the ritual; and the closing, in which the fruit of the act is dedicated rather than claimed. The middle part is what most articles describe. The first and last parts are what practitioners say matter, because between them they turn a wish into something a person has committed to out loud and then let go of.

What follows from that is a short list of things this page will not tell you. It will not tell you that a puja guarantees a job, because nothing does. It will not give you a period in which a ritual takes effect, because the tradition assigns none and a number invented for the purpose would only sound authoritative. It will not price your prospects by the scale of the ceremony — the notion that a larger or costlier puja purchases a proportionally larger outcome is a sales technique, not a doctrine, and it is worth recognising when it is being used on you. And it will not suggest that a ritual is a reason to skip the ordinary work of a job search, which no classical source has ever proposed.

The practical counsel that does survive scrutiny is unglamorous. Choose the graha or deity that matches the actual obstacle rather than the outcome you want. Keep the observance small enough to sustain, since consistency is the one variable entirely under your control. Perform it on the weekday belonging to the graha concerned, which is what the tradition itself specifies and costs nothing. And treat the sankalpa seriously: naming precisely what you are working towards is useful whatever you believe about the sky.
