Tithi Birthday: Hindu Calendar Dates, Nov 2026 to Dec 2027

Published 2026-10-27 | Live Pandit Ji

A Hindu birthday by the lunar calendar, the janma tithi (जन्म तिथि), is not a fixed date in January or August. It is a pair: the lunar month you were born in and the tithi, the lunar day, that was running at the moment of birth. Each year the birthday is the day on which that tithi of that month is current at sunrise, and because twelve lunar months are about eleven days shorter than the solar year, the Gregorian date moves every year. The tables below give that day for every month and tithi from Kartika 2026, which opens on 9 November 2026, to Margashirsha 2027, which closes on 28 December 2027.

What You Need Before Using the Table

Three things: the month, the paksha (the waxing or waning fortnight) and the tithi number. A janam patri written at the time of birth usually records all three. Without one, the panchang for your birth date gives them, but read it with care: a printed panchang names each day by the tithi at sunrise, and your tithi is the one current at the minute you were born. For a birth at four in the morning, the tithi then running may be the one the panchang lists under the previous date, and a birth in the evening may come after the day’s tithi has already ended. For a birth in 2026 or 2027, the site’s daily pages, such as the panchang for 9 November 2026, give the tithi at that sunrise and say whether it had changed since the previous one. That is the starting point; a birth close to the hour of a change needs the tithi at the birth minute itself.

Which Month Name: Amanta or Purnimanta

India uses two month reckonings, and they disagree only in the waning fortnight. The amanta calendar of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana runs each month from new moon to new moon. The purnimanta calendar of most of the north runs from full moon to full moon, so its dark fortnight carries the name of the month that follows. A birth recorded as “Kartika Krishna Panchami” in Uttar Pradesh is the same lunar day that a Pune family would write as Ashwina Krishna Panchami. Each table below is headed by its amanta name and gives the purnimanta name of its Krishna column, so use whichever your family’s record follows. Shukla tithis carry the same month name in both.

Month names here are fixed by the sign the Sun holds at the new moon that opens the month, and each one was checked against the site’s festival rows for the same lunation, so this table and the festival pages agree on what month a day belongs to.

Tithi Birthday Dates by Month

Dates are the day the tithi holds sunrise at New Delhi. Two dates joined by “&” mean the tithi held both sunrises. “No sunrise” means it began and ended between two dawns, and the date given is the day it ran on. An asterisk marks a tithi that begins or ends within 45 minutes of the Delhi sunrise; in those 27 cells a city in the far east or west of India, where the sun rises up to an hour earlier or later, can land on the neighbouring day, so check the tithi against your own city’s sunrise.

When the Tithi Is Skipped or Repeated

In these months a tithi lasts between 20 and 27 hours, so it does not map one-to-one onto days. Across the fourteen months above, 20 tithis hold no sunrise at all and 13 hold two. Take Kartika Shukla Ekadashi, the Dev Uthani Ekadashi of 2026: it opens after sunrise on 20 November and is over before sunrise on 21 November, so no morning of the month carries its name, and the festival table keeps it on 20 November, the day it ran. This table does the same, but family calendars do not all treat a skipped tithi alike, and where yours has its own convention, that convention decides.

The opposite case is Kartika Shukla Navami, current at sunrise on both 18 November and 19 November. Calendars differ on which of the two mornings to keep, and the table prints both rather than choose.

Why the Date Moves, and the Nineteen-Year Return

Run each sunrise of 2027 back exactly one year, to the same date and clock time in 2026, and the tithi on the earlier date is ten, eleven or twelve tithis behind; eleven is the commonest step, on 195 of the 365 days. That is the eleven-day slide: a tithi birthday arrives roughly eleven days earlier each year. The slide cannot go on indefinitely, because each month is named for a sign of the Sun, so the calendar inserts an extra month when the slide has used up a whole one: the site’s table lists ten added months from 2020 to 2045, never closer than two years apart or wider than three. The last one was Adhika Jyeshtha, 17 May to 15 June 2026, and the next in the site’s table is Adhika Chaitra, from 15 March 2029. In the year a month is added, birthdays in the months after it fall a lunar month later than the slide alone would put them, which is how the date is pulled back.

Nineteen years brings the two calendars almost back into step. Run the same 365 sunrises back nineteen years, to 2008, and the tithi is identical on 142 dates, one tithi away on 203 and two away on 20. So a nineteenth birthday tends to fall on or within a day of the Gregorian birth date, but it is a near-return and not a rule, and the table, not the Gregorian date, is what decides.

Born in an Added Month

A child born between the new moons of 17 May and 15 June 2026 was born in Adhika Jyeshtha, and 2027 has only one Jyeshtha. Family and regional practice differ on whether such a birthday is kept in the ordinary Jyeshtha of a normal year or held over to the next Adhika Jyeshtha, and this page does not settle it. The Jyeshtha table above is the ordinary month.

Related Pages

The sunrise days of each tithi across 2026 and 2027 have their own pages under the tithi index, for example Shukla Panchami or Amavasya; those lists carry no month names, which is what this table adds. The solar counterpart, a chart cast for the Sun’s return to its birth degree, is covered in solar return birthday astrology. Festivals keep their tithis by stricter rules than the sunrise one (midday, evening or midnight), and the Kalashtami 2027 list shows how far that can move a date. To see the Moon sign and nakshatra of a birth worked into a chart, start with the free kundli, or order a fuller kundli report. In Hindi: तिथि अनुसार जन्मदिन: नवम्बर 2026 से दिसम्बर 2027.
