Tara counts the nakshatras from one birth star to the other, inclusively, and reduces the count to one of nine; Sadhaka is the 6th, so a star 6th, 15th or 24th from another sits at Sadhaka from it. The koota counts both ways, bride to groom and groom to bride, and the two counts are not independent: when the groom’s star is at Sadhaka from the bride’s, the bride’s is always at Pratyari (5) from the groom’s, because both counts are the same distance read from opposite ends.
