The short answer

Life path 11 is one of the three master numbers, and the honest answer to how rare it is has three parts: 8.6% of birth dates reach it if you add all the digits at once, 6.4% if you reduce day, month and year separately, and 5.3% on both orders at once. Only that last figure holds regardless of which calculator you used. It reduces to 2, so it borrows the Moon for its graha.

Worked From a Real Date

19 January 1926 is the earliest date in the counted span that produces life path 11. Its digits add to 29, and 2 + 9 = 11, where the reduction stops. A master number is a total the tradition declines to reduce. Without that rule this date would read as life path 2, and on the other reduction order some dates do exactly that — see below.

Four totals in the whole range hold at 11: 11, 29, 38 and 47. That is the real reason the three master numbers are not equally common — not that one of them is more significant than another, but that 11 has four routes, 22 has one route and 33 has one route. The scarcest route here is the total 47, which only five dates in the century reach — the first being 29 September 1989.

Three Counts for One Number

This is the part that gets published as a single figure and should not be. Whether a date produces 11 depends on how the digits were grouped before the master-number check ran — and the check is the only step in the whole calculation that cares about grouping. So 11 has one population under each order and a third, smaller one where they overlap.

Read down the last column and the claim that master numbers are vanishingly rare looks reasonable. Read the first column and it does not: all three together account for 16.3% of birth dates on the whole-date order, which is about one date in six. Both statements are in print, and the difference between them is entirely a choice of reduction order that most sources never mention.

Where Two Calculators Disagree About 11

Add every digit of the date at once, or reduce day, month and year separately and add the three results — both orders are in use, and they part company on 4,692 of 36,525 birth dates, 12.8%. What they part company over is never the single digit: reduction does not change a number's remainder on division by nine, and the single digit is that remainder, so the root differs in 0 cases out of 36,525. The only step grouping can affect is whether a total was held back as a master number.

11 is one of the six numbers that can be in dispute — 2, 4, 6, 11, 22 and 33 — and it is in dispute in both directions, on 1,633 dates in total.

The two directions are not equally common, and for this pair the gap is 2.9-fold. A date is more likely to read as 11 all-at-once and as 2 separately (1,217 dates) than the other way round (416 dates). So "which order does your calculator use" is not a neutral question for 11: it changes how often the number turns up at all.
