Lucky and Unlucky Numbers for Each Zodiac Sign

Introduction: The Connection Between Numbers and Stars (अंकों और ग्रहों का संबंध)

In the Indian tradition of Ank Shastra, each of the nine single digits is assigned to one of the nine grahas, and a number is read through the planet that owns it. Because every zodiac sign also has a ruling planet, the two systems join up: some numbers belong to planets your ruler counts as friends, some to planets it counts as enemies, and some to planets it is neutral towards. That is the whole of the mechanism, and it is the reason lists of lucky numbers by sign exist at all. Understanding it lets you check any such list rather than take it on trust.

The connection operates entirely through the ruling planets. Each zodiac sign is governed by a specific planet, and each planet corresponds to a particular number in the Vedic numerological system. Traditionally, numbers belonging to your ruler and to its friends are treated as supportive, and numbers belonging to its enemies as working against the grain. This is why experienced astrologers asked about a house number, a phone number or a registration date will answer from the ruling planet rather than from the sign itself.

The system of planetary numbers in Vedic numerology assigns: Sun = 1, Moon = 2, Jupiter = 3, Rahu = 4, Mercury = 5, Venus = 6, Ketu = 7, Saturn = 8, and Mars = 9. Compound numbers are handled by reducing them: 18 becomes 1+8 = 9 and so carries Mars, 24 becomes 2+4 = 6 and so carries Venus. Every list on this page is worked out that way and nothing has been added by feel, which is why some of the lists below are shorter than the ones you will find elsewhere, and why one sign ends up with no inimical numbers at all.

Two limits are worth stating before the lists, because most published versions ignore both. First, the classical natural-friendship table covers only the seven planets that own signs. Rahu and Ketu own no sign, so they have no row and no column in it — which means 4 and 7 cannot be graded friendly or inimical for any sign, and any list that grades them has stepped outside the method. Second, the table is not symmetric: the Moon counts Mercury a friend while Mercury counts the Moon an enemy, and the Moon has no enemies at all. Those two facts between them account for most of the contradictions you will find in number lists online.

One consequence is a test you can run on any list, including this one. Five pairs of signs share a ruling planet — Aries and Scorpio under Mars, Taurus and Libra under Venus, Gemini and Virgo under Mercury, Capricorn and Aquarius under Saturn, Sagittarius and Pisces under Jupiter. Since the numbers come from the ruler alone, each pair must receive exactly the same numbers. If a page tells Taurus to avoid 8 and tells Libra 8 is fortunate, it has not derived either answer. The lists below are identical within all five pairs.

Aries (Mesh Rashi): Lucky and Unlucky Numbers (मेष राशि के शुभ-अशुभ अंक)

Aries is ruled by Mars, the fiery planet of courage, action, and determination. Mars corresponds to the number 9 in Vedic numerology, making this the primary lucky number for Aries natives. The energy of 9 resonates with Mars' assertive, pioneering spirit, and the traditional reading connects it to competitive endeavours, sport, uniformed service and enterprise. Beyond 9, Aries natives are held to benefit from the numbers of Mars' friendly planets.

Mars counts three planets as friends: the Sun (1), the Moon (2) and Jupiter (3). Number 1 is read for authority and leadership, 2 for steadiness and emotional ballast, 3 for expansion and good counsel. Mars has exactly one enemy in the table — Mercury, which owns 5 — so 5 is the single number the method marks against Aries, and any list that puts 5 among the lucky numbers for Aries has inverted it. Venus (6) and Saturn (8) are neither friends nor enemies of Mars; they are neutral, which is a real third category and not a polite way of saying unlucky. The compound numbers 18, 27, 36 and 45 all reduce to 9 and so carry the same Martian value.

  • Aries (Mars): favourable 9 (the ruler), 1 (Sun), 2 (Moon), 3 (Jupiter), plus 18, 27, 36, 45; inimical 5 (Mercury, the sole planet Mars counts as an enemy); neutral 6 (Venus), 8 (Saturn) — identical to Scorpio.
  • Not gradeable: 4 (Rahu) and 7 (Ketu), which have no entry in the friendship table.
  • Dates of the month whose digits reduce to 9: the 9th, 18th and 27th.
  • Traditional planetary colours for the favourable numbers: red for Mars (9), gold or copper for the Sun (1), yellow for Jupiter (3).

Taurus, Gemini, Cancer & Leo: Numbers Guide (वृषभ, मिथुन, कर्क और सिंह राशि)

Taurus is ruled by Venus, corresponding to the number 6. Venus counts two planets as friends — Mercury (5) and Saturn (8) — so those are the numbers that join 6 on the favourable side. The pairing of Venus with Saturn surprises people who expect Saturn to be difficult everywhere, but the table is explicit, and it is the same reason Saturn takes its exaltation in Venus-ruled Libra. Venus has two enemies, the Sun (1) and the Moon (2), which makes those the numbers to be careful with. Mars (9) and Jupiter (3) are neutral for Taurus. Compound numbers 15, 24, 33 and 42 all reduce to 6.

Gemini is governed by Mercury, making 5 the primary lucky number. Mercury's quick, analytical energy is read for communication, commerce and adaptability. Mercury's friends are the Sun (1) and Venus (6), so those are the supporting numbers — note that Jupiter (3), which most lists attach to Gemini, is in fact neutral here rather than friendly. Mercury has one enemy, the Moon, so 2 is the number the method marks against Gemini. Compound numbers 14, 23, 32 and 41 reduce to 5. Business and brand names totalling 5 are the traditional recommendation for Gemini; if you want a two-digit combination, 15 and 51 reduce to 6, which is a Mercury friend, whereas 56 and 65 reduce to 2, which is its only enemy.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon, making 2 the primary lucky number. The Moon's friends are the Sun (1) and Mercury (5), which join 2 on the favourable side. Cancer is the one sign where the method returns something unusual: the Moon has no enemies at all in the classical table, so under this system Cancer has no inimical numbers. Mars (9), Jupiter (3), Venus (6) and Saturn (8) are all simply neutral. Lists that tell Cancer to avoid 8 and 4 are grading Saturn as an enemy of the Moon, which the table does not, and grading Rahu, which the table cannot. Compound numbers 11, 20, 29 and 38 all reduce to 2.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, making 1 the paramount lucky number. The Sun's friends are the Moon (2), Mars (9) and Jupiter (3), so those three numbers support it — and 2 belongs on the favourable side, since the Sun and Moon count each other as friends. The Sun has two enemies, Venus (6) and Saturn (8), and those are the numbers to be careful with; Saturn in particular is the classical opposition to the Sun. Mercury (5) is neutral. Compound numbers 10, 19, 28 and 37 reduce to 1.

  • Taurus (Venus): favourable 6, 5, 8, plus 15, 24, 33, 42; inimical 1, 2; neutral 3, 9.
  • Gemini (Mercury): favourable 5, 1, 6, plus 14, 23, 32, 41; inimical 2; neutral 3, 8, 9.
  • Cancer (Moon): favourable 2, 1, 5, plus 11, 20, 29, 38; inimical none; neutral 3, 6, 8, 9.
  • Leo (Sun): favourable 1, 2, 9, 3, plus 10, 19, 28, 37; inimical 6, 8; neutral 5.

Virgo, Libra, Scorpio & Sagittarius: Numbers Guide (कन्या, तुला, वृश्चिक और धनु राशि)

Virgo shares Mercury's rulership with Gemini, so its numbers are identical: 5 as the ruler's own, with 1 and 6 from Mercury's two friends, and 2 as the single inimical number. What differs between the two signs is the reading rather than the arithmetic — for earthy Virgo, 5 is described in terms of precision, method and service work, where for airy Gemini the same number is read as speech and trade. Any page that gives Gemini and Virgo different numbers has stopped deriving and started guessing. Compound numbers 14, 23, 32 and 41 reduce to 5.

Libra is ruled by Venus, sharing that planetary ruler with Taurus, so its numbers are the same: 6 as the ruler's own, 5 and 8 from Venus' friends Mercury and Saturn, and 1 and 2 as inimical. For Libra the traditional reading of 6 leans towards partnership, artistic work and social balance rather than the comfort and material ease read for Taurus. Libra has one extra reason to be comfortable with 8: Saturn takes its exaltation in Libra, which is a fact about the sign rather than the ruler. That strengthens the case for 8 here, but it does not create it — 8 is favourable for Taurus on exactly the same friendship grounds.

Scorpio is ruled by Mars, and Vedic tradition also names Ketu as a co-lord of the sign. From Mars come the same numbers as for Aries: 9 as its own, with 1, 2 and 3 from its friends the Sun, Moon and Jupiter, and 5 as the single inimical number. The Ketu co-lordship is a genuine traditional attribution, but no number verdict follows from it, because Ketu owns no sign of its own and therefore has no entry in the friendship table — there is nothing to compare 7 against. That is why 7 appears here as ungradeable rather than as a second lucky number, which is how most lists present it. Compound numbers 18, 27, 36 and 45 reduce to 9.

Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, making 3 the primary lucky number, read for wisdom, growth and counsel. Jupiter's friends are the Sun (1), the Moon (2) and Mars (9), so those are the supporting numbers. Jupiter has two enemies, and this is where published lists most often go wrong: they are Mercury (5) and Venus (6). Mercury is frequently listed as a friend of Jupiter and 5 as lucky for Sagittarius, which inverts the table — and the same page will then tell Pisces, also ruled by Jupiter, to avoid 5. Saturn (8) is neutral for Sagittarius, not inimical. Compound numbers 12, 21, 30 and 39 reduce to 3.

  • Virgo (Mercury): favourable 5, 1, 6, plus 14, 23, 32, 41; inimical 2; neutral 3, 8, 9 — identical to Gemini.
  • Libra (Venus): favourable 6, 5, 8, plus 15, 24, 33, 42; inimical 1, 2; neutral 3, 9 — identical to Taurus.
  • Scorpio (Mars): favourable 9, 1, 2, 3, plus 18, 27, 36, 45; inimical 5; neutral 6, 8 — identical to Aries.
  • Sagittarius (Jupiter): favourable 3, 1, 2, 9, plus 12, 21, 30, 39; inimical 5, 6; neutral 8.

Capricorn, Aquarius & Pisces: Numbers Guide (मकर, कुंभ और मीन राशि)

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, making 8 the primary associated number. The relationship is a demanding one in the traditional reading: 8 is described as rewarding patience and sustained effort rather than delivering quickly. Saturn's friends are Mercury (5) and Venus (6), so those numbers support it. Saturn has three enemies — the Sun (1), the Moon (2) and Mars (9) — which is the longest enemy list of any planet in the table, and all three numbers are ones to be careful with for Capricorn. Jupiter (3) is neutral. Compound numbers 17, 26, 35 and 44 reduce to 8.

Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, with Rahu named as a co-lord in Vedic tradition, so its numbers are identical to Capricorn's: 8 as its own, 5 and 6 from Saturn's friends, and 1, 2 and 9 as inimical. The Rahu co-lordship is where most lists add 4 as a second lucky number for Aquarius, and it is worth being clear why this page does not. Rahu owns no sign in its own right and has no row in the natural-friendship table, so there is no relation between Rahu and Saturn for the method to read. The traditional association of Aquarius with invention and reform is real and often attributed to Rahu, but it does not license a verdict on the number 4.

Pisces is ruled by Jupiter, with Ketu named as a co-lord, so its numbers match Sagittarius': 3 as the ruler's own, 1, 2 and 9 from Jupiter's friends the Sun, Moon and Mars, and 5 and 6 as inimical, Mercury and Venus being Jupiter's two enemies. The traditional reading of 3 for Pisces leans devotional and compassionate where for Sagittarius it leans towards teaching and travel, but the numbers themselves cannot differ. Saturn (8) is neutral here, and 7 is ungradeable for the reason given under Scorpio. Compound numbers 12, 21, 30 and 39 reduce to 3. Check your horoscope to see which planets are currently transiting your sign.

  • Capricorn (Saturn): favourable 8, 5, 6, plus 17, 26, 35, 44; inimical 1, 2, 9; neutral 3.
  • Aquarius (Saturn): favourable 8, 5, 6, plus 17, 26, 35, 44; inimical 1, 2, 9; neutral 3 — identical to Capricorn.
  • Pisces (Jupiter): favourable 3, 1, 2, 9, plus 12, 21, 30, 39; inimical 5, 6; neutral 8 — identical to Sagittarius.

How to Use Lucky Numbers in Daily Life (शुभ अंकों का दैनिक जीवन में उपयोग)

Knowing which numbers the method favours for your sign is one thing; deciding what to do with them is another. The traditional advice is to use them where a number has to be chosen anyway and nothing else settles the choice — a flat number when two are available, a phone number from a list, a date for a ceremony that could fall in either of two weeks. Used that way it costs nothing and takes nothing away from the decision. Used as a substitute for judgement it will cost you, which the tradition itself is fairly clear about.

For business and career, the usual recommendation is to check that a business name totals to a favourable number, and to prefer a registration or launch date whose digits reduce to one. If you are choosing between job offers, a joining date that reduces to a favourable number is the sort of tie-breaker this framework is for. What it will not do is change how an investment performs: a share price and a property valuation move on their own terms, and no date of purchase alters them. Treat number selection as a way of settling arbitrary choices, not as an edge.

In personal life, choose phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and house numbers that contain your favourable digits. When selecting a wedding date, the traditional approach is to look for a date that works for both partners' numbers, though a real muhurat is calculated from the panchang rather than from digit sums, and where the two disagree the panchang is what a pandit will follow. Even small choices — a locker number, a seat number — can be settled this way if you like. None of it substitutes for preparation on the day.

  • Choose phone numbers whose digits add up to a favourable number for your ruling planet.
  • Select house or flat numbers that reduce to one of your sign's favourable digits.
  • Where a meeting or signing could fall on either of two dates, prefer the one that reduces favourably.
  • Pick vehicle registration numbers containing your favourable digits.
  • Start new ventures on dates whose total equals your primary number, other things being equal.
  • Choose bank account or locker numbers that reduce to a favourable digit.
  • Where the choice is genuinely random — a draw, a raffle, a coin toss — no number is better than any other, and nothing in this framework changes that.

Numbers for Business Names, Phone Numbers and Financial Dates (व्यापार, फोन नंबर और वित्तीय तिथियों के लिए शुभ अंक)

The question we are asked most often about lucky numbers is whether they help with a lottery, so it is worth answering plainly: no, and it is not a close call. A lottery draw is mechanically independent of the ticket you hold. Every combination in a given draw has exactly the same chance, choosing digits that suit your ruling planet does not change that chance, and playing on a date whose digits reduce to your number does not change it either. Any page telling you otherwise is describing something numerology cannot do. The framework on this page is for choosing between options that are otherwise equivalent, and a lottery ticket is the one case where they genuinely are equivalent.

For business names and registration, the numerological value of the name is the part of this the tradition takes most seriously. Indian practice calculates it with the Chaldean table, which is the one used in name-correction work generally, and looks for a total that reduces to the ruling planet's own number or to one of its friends'. The registration date and the office or floor number are sometimes checked the same way. Bear in mind that Chaldean and Pythagorean tables give different totals for the same name, so a figure is only meaningful once you know which table produced it — our name numerology calculator uses Chaldean and shows the per-letter values.

Phone numbers are the case where this framework is easiest to apply, because operators usually offer a list and the choice within that list is arbitrary. Sum all the digits and reduce. If choosing between several, the common preference is for one where the last four digits — the portion people see and dial most — reduce favourably. Some practitioners also weigh position, preferring a favourable digit at the start for first impressions or at the end for durability; that refinement is a matter of school rather than of the table, and no single view of it is authoritative.

For property registration and other major financial commitments, the date is what numerology can speak to, and only as a tie-breaker between dates that are otherwise equally workable. Beyond the sign's general numbers, a practitioner reading your chart will look at the lords of the 2nd house of accumulated wealth and the 11th of gains and consider their numbers too, which is more specific than anything derivable from the sign alone. That is a chart question rather than a zodiac question, and it needs your birth details.

The Numerology-Astrology Connection: Deeper Understanding (अंकशास्त्र-ज्योतिष संबंध: गहन समझ)

The link between the two systems is narrower than it is usually made to sound, and being precise about it is what makes the lists above checkable. Numerology on its own works from a date and a spelling. It has no access to birth time, place, house positions or dasha. What connects it to Jyotish is a single mapping — nine digits onto nine grahas — and once that mapping is in place, everything astrology already says about how those grahas regard one another can be carried across to the numbers. Nothing further is imported, which is the point: the framework is small, and its results are therefore reproducible.

The concept of friendly, neutral and enemy planets maps directly onto compatible and incompatible numbers. Jupiter and the Sun are mutual friends, so their numbers 3 and 1 sit well together, and a compound like 13 or 31 reduces to 4 while carrying both. The Sun and Saturn are mutual enemies, so 1 and 8 together are read as internally conflicted. The subtlety worth knowing is that the table is not symmetric in every case: the Moon counts Mercury a friend, while Mercury counts the Moon an enemy. So 2 and 5 are read differently depending on which side you stand — supportive for a Cancer native, obstructive for Gemini and Virgo — and a page that flattens this into one verdict for the pair has lost information rather than simplified it.

Transits do not change the friendship table, but practitioners do read them as changing emphasis: while Jupiter moves through your sign, 3 and its compounds are given more weight; during a Saturn transit, and particularly Sade Sati, 8 is read as karmically loaded rather than simply unfortunate. Whether that layer is worth adding depends on how much precision you want, and it needs your current horoscope and dasha rather than just your sign. An experienced astrologer can work from the natal chart, which is where the answer gets specific to you rather than to the twelfth of the population that shares your sign.

  • Every number on this page comes from the ruling planet and the classical friendship table, with nothing added.
  • Planetary friendships and enmities are what determine number compatibility; the sign itself adds only the ruler.
  • Compound numbers are reduced to a single digit and carry that digit's planet.
  • Rahu (4) and Ketu (7) have no entry in the friendship table and so cannot be graded for any sign.
  • Neutral is a real third verdict, and covers more numbers for most signs than either of the other two.
  • Signs sharing a ruler must share their numbers exactly; all five pairs match above.
  • Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are conventionally left unreduced, though not every system observes this.

Conclusion: Working With Numerical Vibrations (अंक शक्ति का उपयोग)

The tradition connecting zodiac signs to numbers is one of the cheapest tools in Jyotish to apply. Unlike remedies that call for a ritual or a stone, working with numbers costs nothing and fits into choices you were going to make anyway. Its usefulness is real but bounded: it is good for settling a choice between equivalent options, and it is a way of keeping your ruling planet in mind while you make ordinary decisions.

What it is not is a lever on outcomes. A business launched on a favourable date still needs a product and management; a phone number with favourable digits still needs you to make the calls. The tradition describes numbers as reducing friction rather than creating results, and that is the honest version of the claim — a date does not change what a market does, and a digit does not change the odds of a draw. Read the lists above as a way of aligning small arbitrary choices with your ruling planet, not as a way of improving your chances at anything.

For an analysis specific to you rather than to your sign, the numbers need to come from a chart. Your ascendant, Moon sign, current dasha and the lords of the houses you care about all bear on which numbers a practitioner will actually recommend, and none of those are derivable from the sign alone.
