The spread between them is not a rounding difference. Long travel / yatra clears 96 days across 2026 and 2027 and Griha Pravesh only 18, from the same 730 — because a journey is subject to no annual closure at all while a first entry into a new house is subject to all five. Each card gives the count for 2026, then 2027.

Why the two years are not alike
The same seven filters, the same kinds of closure, and 159 qualifying days in 2026 against 211 qualifying days in 2027. Neither year can be got from the other by moving the dates a few days along, and the reasons are computed rather than asserted. 2026 carries an intercalary lunar month — Adhika Jyeshtha, 17 May 2026 to 15 June 2026, a lunation with no solar ingress inside it — while 2027 carries none. Most years do not have one, which is exactly why advice carried over from another year misses it. And where a combustion falls decides what it costs, so what matters is not how many there are but what they take: Guru or Shukra asta closes 45 days of 2026 that no other closure had taken, 1 of its 3 windows lying wholly inside Chaturmas; and 8 days of 2027 that no other closure had taken, 1 of its 2 windows lying wholly inside Chaturmas. Take the combustions and the intercalary month out of every year here and the spread in open days falls from 73 days to 6 — the rest of the closure list behaves much the same from one year to the next.

What each kind of closure is worth on its own. Each pair is the days that kind takes which no other closure had already taken, out of every day it covers. The first figure is what lifting the kind would return; the second is what a calendar printing window lengths would show, and the two can rank differently: 2026 — Chaturmas 86 of 119, Kharmas 47 of 61, Asta 45 of 92, Adhika maas 30 of 30, Holashtak 8 of 8; 2027 — Kharmas 54 of 61, Chaturmas 54 of 120, Asta 8 of 74, Holashtak 1 of 8.
Namakaran, Annaprashan & Mundan varies most between the years and Upanayan (sacred thread) least. Closures are computed from the JPL DE421 ephemeris one year at a time — the sankrantis, the lunar months and so the intercalary month, the two Ekadashis that bound Chaturmas, and each planet’s combustion window bisected at both edges.

Questions
How many auspicious days are there in 2026 and 2027?
It depends entirely on what for, and the spread is the point. Across the seven occasions on this page the totals for the two years run from 18 days for Griha Pravesh to 96 for Long travel / yatra — the same 730 days, filtered by different rules. 370 qualifying days in total across all seven, and 41 of the 168 occasion-months have none at all.
Why do these lists have fewer dates than other muhurat calendars?
Because a list built without a panchang always returns something, and because the closed periods are usually left out. Guru and Shukra asta — Jupiter or Venus combust, lost in the Sun's glare — is checked by almost nobody, and in 2026 the combustion windows cover more of the year than Kharmas does: 92 days against 61, of which 45 are days no other closure had already taken. Every day these pages rule out is named with the limb or the closure that ruled it out, so the working can be checked against any panchang.
Is a qualifying day a muhurat?
No. The five limbs are the classical first pass, and they are the part a calendar can honestly do: narrowing a year to the days on which tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana agree. The second pass elects a window inside the chosen day against the charts of the people involved, and nothing that does not know those charts can do it. These pages produce a shortlist.
Are 2027's dates just 2026's shifted along?
No, and the gap is large. The two years run the same seven filters against the same kinds of closure, and return 159 qualifying days in 2026 against 211 qualifying days in 2027. 2026 carries an intercalary lunar month — Adhika Jyeshtha, 17 May to 15 June — and 2027 carries none, so the lunar calendar is a whole month out of step between them. And a combustion costs only what Chaturmas has not already taken: Guru or Shukra asta closes 45 days in 2026 against 8 days in 2027 that no other closure had taken, 2026 having 1 of its 3 windows wholly inside Chaturmas and 2027 having 1 of its 2 windows wholly inside Chaturmas. Merged, that leaves 102 open days in 2026 and 175 open days in 2027, and taking those two variable closures out of both years closes the gap from 73 days to 6. Namakaran, Annaprashan & Mundan moves most between the years, by 12 days; Upanayan (sacred thread) least, by 4.
Why 2026 and 2027 and not further ahead?
Two things have to hold for a year to be publishable here, and the second is the harder one. The panchang table in this repository runs 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, which fixes the five limbs; the closures then have to be computed for that year in their own right. They cannot be carried over: Chaturmas is fixed by two Ekadashis that move by a fortnight from year to year, and an intercalary month exists in some years and not others. Run 2026's closures over August 2027 and the filter reports three clear marriage days in a month lying entirely inside Chaturmas — which is why each year gets its own ephemeris pass, and why the next year waits for one.
What are the sade teen muhurat?
Three and a half days the tradition holds auspicious in themselves, needing no examination of tithi or nakshatra — an abujh, "unasked", muhurat. In 2026 they fall on Gudi Padwa / Ugadi (19 March), Akshaya Tritiya (19 April), Vijayadashami (20 October), Balipratipada (Kartik Shukla Pratipada) (10 November). 3 of the four fall inside a closed period and override it, which is precisely the point of an abujh muhurat. They are given for 2026 only: unlike the closures they are not computable from the lunar month alone, because each of the four is observed under a different day-part rule, and guessing at the rules until the dates came out would mean publishing invented auspicious days.
