This is the dharma trine, and the most interesting contradiction in Ashtakoota. Being 5th and 9th from each other is the single most auspicious relationship two houses can have — it governs children, teaching, shared belief and genuine attraction — and yet Bhakoot scores it 0. Most authorities treat Navpancham dosha as the mildest of the three and freely cancel it, precisely because the underlying relationship is so favourable. A pair scoring 0 here is not in the same position as a pair scoring 0 on Shadashtak.

The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs

Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Mars, the lord of Aries, is in a friend's sign in Sagittarius, and Jupiter, the lord of Sagittarius, is in a friend's sign in Aries. Neither direction is dramatic, so this test neither helps nor harms the pair.

A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.

Mobility — Chara and Dvisvabhava

The twelve rashis divide three ways by mobility: Aries is Chara (movable) and Sagittarius is Dvisvabhava (dual). Chara meets Dvisvabhava, dual. The movable sign sets the direction and the dual sign adapts to it, which makes for unusually little friction over decisions — and unusually little resistance when a direction should have been questioned.

Mobility carries no guna either, and it is not the same distinction as element — it describes how a sign holds a position rather than what it cares about, which is why it explains a different class of argument from the shared Fire one below.

Where the Friction Sits

Both signs are Fire, so they share a basic mode of operating and will rarely misread each other's motives. The classical caution about a same-element pair is that it has no corrective: what Aries overdoes, Sagittarius also overdoes, and there is nobody in the room supplying the missing element. Mars and Jupiter set different priorities, and in practice the argument is usually between those two priorities rather than between the two people.
