What a Sign Pair Can and Cannot Tell You
Ashtakoota awards 36 guna across eight tests. Only three of the eight can be read from two Moon signs: Varna, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot, worth 13 guna between them. The four heaviest tests — Nadi (8), Gana (6), Yoni (4) and Tara (3) — are decided by the birth nakshatra, and Vashya (2) turns on half-sign divisions the authorities assign differently. So a page like this one can give you 13 guna honestly and cannot give you the other 23 at all.
This is worth knowing because most sign-compatibility tools quote a single percentage. There is no classical calculation that produces one from two sign names.

The Three Rashi Kootas / राशि कूट
Aries and Taurus form the 2/12 axis — Dwirdwadash dosha. Bhakoot is all-or-nothing.
Mutually neutral. Mars and Venus are naturally neutral to each other.
Aries is Kshatriya (warrior — assertive, protective) and Taurus is Vaishya (merchant — practical, provident). Varna is directional: it scores 1 when the man's varna rank is equal or higher and 0 when it is lower, so this pair scores 1 with the Aries partner as the man and 0 the other way round.
The 2/12 Axis / भकूट
One sign sits in the other's 2nd house — family, savings, speech — while that other sits in its 12th, the house of loss and expenditure. The classical reading is asymmetric: the partner in the 12th position tends to give more than they receive, in money and in effort. Of the three Bhakoot doshas this is the one most often cited in refusals, because it names a specific and durable imbalance rather than a general difficulty.
Dwirdwadash dosha applies and is not cancelled by the standard exception
Mars and Venus are not natural friends, so Graha Maitri scores 3 of 5 rather than the full 5 that cancels Bhakoot. Other cancellations exist — a shared nakshatra lord is the common one — but they need both birth nakshatras, not the signs.
The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs
Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Mars, the lord of Aries, is in a neutral sign in Taurus, and Venus, the lord of Taurus, is in a neutral sign in Aries. Neither direction is dramatic, so this test neither helps nor harms the pair.
Lord of Aries · सम क्षेत्र
Taurus belongs to Venus, toward whom Mars is neither friendly nor hostile. Mars is therefore neither strengthened nor weakened in Taurus — on this test the pair is simply not commented on in that direction, which is a more honest answer than manufacturing one.
Lord of Taurus · सम क्षेत्र
Turned around, the answer is the same: Aries belongs to Mars, Venus is neither friendly nor hostile toward Mars, and so Venus is neither strengthened nor weakened in Aries. Neutral in both directions — six of the 66 pairs — means the dignity test declines to comment on this match at all, which is worth knowing before someone reads a silence as approval.
A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.
Mobility — Chara and Sthira
The twelve rashis divide three ways by mobility: Aries is Chara (movable) and Taurus is Sthira (fixed). One sign is Chara, movable, and the other Sthira, fixed — the classically complementary mobility pairing. One partner initiates and the other consolidates, which works well while both accept the division and becomes a standing argument the moment the fixed partner is asked to move quickly or the movable one is asked to settle.
Mobility carries no guna either, and it is not the same distinction as element — it describes how a sign holds a position rather than what it cares about, which is why it explains a different class of argument from the Fire-versus-Earth one below.
Aries in a Relationship
Aries pursues. It is direct to the point of bluntness, decides quickly, and would rather have the argument now than let it sit. There is no game-playing here, which is either refreshing or alarming depending on who is receiving it.
What it needs
A partner who does not require to be chased indefinitely and who says what they mean. Aries reads hinting as dishonesty.
Where it goes wrong
The temper arrives fast and leaves fast, which Aries treats as settled and the other person often does not. Boredom in a stable relationship is the real risk — Aries mistakes calm for something being wrong.
Aries horoscope →Taurus in a Relationship
Taurus commits slowly and then almost immovably. It shows affection through provision — food, comfort, security, physical presence — rather than through declarations, and it expects the same in return.
What it needs
Consistency, physical affection, and no sudden changes to the shared plan. Taurus needs to be told about a decision before it is made, not after.
Where it goes wrong
The stubbornness is total once a position is taken, and possessiveness reads as care from the inside and as control from the outside. Taurus will endure an unhappy situation for years rather than restructure it.
Taurus horoscope →Where the Friction Sits
Aries works in Fire and Taurus in Earth, which is where the recurring misunderstanding will live. It shows up as a difference in pace and in what each treats as obvious rather than as a difference in intention. Mars and Venus set different priorities, and in practice the argument is usually between those two priorities rather than between the two people.
Read the two profiles above against each other and the specific fault line is usually obvious: “The temper arrives fast and leaves fast, which Aries treats as settled and the other person often does not” meeting “the stubbornness is total once a position is taken, and possessiveness reads as care from the inside and as control from the outside” is the pattern this pair will keep returning to.

Get the Other 23 Guna
Nadi, Gana, Yoni and Tara account for 21 of the 36 guna and all four need both birth nakshatras — which need birth time and place, not just the sign. Kundli matching calculates the full Ashtakoota, plus Mangal dosha and the 7th house, which sit outside Guna Milan entirely.
