What a Sign Pair Can and Cannot Tell You
Ashtakoota awards 36 guna across eight tests. Only three of the eight can be read from two Moon signs: Varna, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot, worth 13 guna between them. The four heaviest tests — Nadi (8), Gana (6), Yoni (4) and Tara (3) — are decided by the birth nakshatra, and Vashya (2) turns on half-sign divisions the authorities assign differently. So a page like this one can give you 13 guna honestly and cannot give you the other 23 at all.
This is worth knowing because most sign-compatibility tools quote a single percentage. There is no classical calculation that produces one from two sign names.

The 5/9 Axis / भकूट
This is the dharma trine, and the most interesting contradiction in Ashtakoota. Being 5th and 9th from each other is the single most auspicious relationship two houses can have — it governs children, teaching, shared belief and genuine attraction — and yet Bhakoot scores it 0. Most authorities treat Navpancham dosha as the mildest of the three and freely cancel it, precisely because the underlying relationship is so favourable. A pair scoring 0 here is not in the same position as a pair scoring 0 on Shadashtak.

The widely accepted cancellation is a Graha Maitri of 5 — the two sign lords being the same planet or natural friends. Venus and Mercury are natural friends, so the dosha is treated as nullified and the pair is read on its other kootas.
The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs
Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Venus, the lord of Taurus, is debilitated in Virgo, and Mercury, the lord of Virgo, is in a friend's sign in Taurus. One direction falls to debilitation, which no koota score will report to you.

Venus rules Taurus and falls to its debilitation in Virgo — Venus at 27°, neecha, the lowest of the dignities. This is a real classical negative for the pair and worth stating plainly rather than glossing: the qualities Taurus relies on its lord to supply are the ones Virgo is least able to support. It is not a bar to anything, and notably it is not reported by any of the eight kootas.
A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.
Mobility — Sthira and Dvisvabhava
