What a Sign Pair Can and Cannot Tell You
Ashtakoota awards 36 guna across eight tests. Only three of the eight can be read from two Moon signs: Varna, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot, worth 13 guna between them. The four heaviest tests — Nadi (8), Gana (6), Yoni (4) and Tara (3) — are decided by the birth nakshatra, and Vashya (2) turns on half-sign divisions the authorities assign differently. So a page like this one can give you 13 guna honestly and cannot give you the other 23 at all.
This is worth knowing because most sign-compatibility tools quote a single percentage. There is no classical calculation that produces one from two sign names.

The Three Rashi Kootas / राशि कूट
Virgo and Libra form the 2/12 axis — Dwirdwadash dosha. Bhakoot is all-or-nothing.
Mutual friends. Mercury and Venus are natural friends to each other.
Virgo is Vaishya (merchant — practical, provident) and Libra is Shudra (artisan — adaptable, service-minded). Varna is directional: it scores 1 when the man's varna rank is equal or higher and 0 when it is lower, so this pair scores 1 with the Virgo partner as the man and 0 the other way round.
The 2/12 Axis / भकूट
One sign sits in the other's 2nd house — family, savings, speech — while that other sits in its 12th, the house of loss and expenditure. The classical reading is asymmetric: the partner in the 12th position tends to give more than they receive, in money and in effort. Of the three Bhakoot doshas this is the one most often cited in refusals, because it names a specific and durable imbalance rather than a general difficulty.
Dwirdwadash dosha is cancelled here
The widely accepted cancellation is a Graha Maitri of 5 — the two sign lords being the same planet or natural friends. Mercury and Venus are natural friends, so the dosha is treated as nullified and the pair is read on its other kootas.
The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs
Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Mercury, the lord of Virgo, is in a friend's sign in Libra, and Venus, the lord of Libra, is debilitated in Virgo. One direction falls to debilitation, which no koota score will report to you.
Lord of Virgo · मित्र क्षेत्र
Libra belongs to Venus, whom Mercury counts a natural friend, so Virgo's lord is a welcome guest rather than a merely tolerated one. Not a strength on the scale of exaltation, but nothing in this direction works against the pair.
Lord of Libra · नीच · Venus at 27°
Venus rules Libra and falls to its debilitation in Virgo — Venus at 27°, neecha, the lowest of the dignities. This is a real classical negative for the pair and worth stating plainly rather than glossing: the qualities Libra relies on its lord to supply are the ones Virgo is least able to support. It is not a bar to anything, and notably it is not reported by any of the eight kootas.
A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.
Mobility — Dvisvabhava and Chara
The twelve rashis divide three ways by mobility: Virgo is Dvisvabhava (dual) and Libra is Chara (movable). Chara meets Dvisvabhava, dual. The movable sign sets the direction and the dual sign adapts to it, which makes for unusually little friction over decisions — and unusually little resistance when a direction should have been questioned.
Mobility carries no guna either, and it is not the same distinction as element — it describes how a sign holds a position rather than what it cares about, which is why it explains a different class of argument from the Earth-versus-Air one below.
Virgo in a Relationship
Virgo shows love by doing things — organising, remembering, fixing, quietly handling what the partner has not noticed. It is far more devoted than it is romantic, and the devotion is easy to miss if you are waiting for a declaration.
What it needs
To be appreciated for the practical work, and a partner who meets their commitments. Virgo forgives a great deal but not unreliability.
Where it goes wrong
The criticism. Virgo's instinct is to improve what it loves, and improvement delivered unrequested lands as disapproval. It also worries out loud, which the partner hears as blame.
Virgo horoscope →Libra in a Relationship
Libra is the most naturally partnered sign of the twelve and is genuinely happier in a pair. It is charming, considerate, and unusually willing to meet in the middle — the compromise is offered before it is asked for.
What it needs
Harmony, beauty in the shared environment, and a partner who does not force confrontation as a first resort.
Where it goes wrong
Avoidance. Libra will agree to keep the peace and then quietly resent the agreement, so problems surface late and pre-decided. Indecision on ordinary matters becomes genuinely wearing.
Libra horoscope →Where the Friction Sits
Virgo works in Earth and Libra in Air, which is where the recurring misunderstanding will live. It shows up as a difference in pace and in what each treats as obvious rather than as a difference in intention. Mercury and Venus set different priorities, and in practice the argument is usually between those two priorities rather than between the two people.
Read the two profiles above against each other and the specific fault line is usually obvious: “The criticism” meeting “avoidance” is the pattern this pair will keep returning to.

Get the Other 23 Guna
Nadi, Gana, Yoni and Tara account for 21 of the 36 guna and all four need both birth nakshatras — which need birth time and place, not just the sign. Kundli matching calculates the full Ashtakoota, plus Mangal dosha and the 7th house, which sit outside Guna Milan entirely.
