What a Sign Pair Can and Cannot Tell You
Ashtakoota awards 36 guna across eight tests. Only three of the eight can be read from two Moon signs: Varna, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot, worth 13 guna between them. The four heaviest tests — Nadi (8), Gana (6), Yoni (4) and Tara (3) — are decided by the birth nakshatra, and Vashya (2) turns on half-sign divisions the authorities assign differently. So a page like this one can give you 13 guna honestly and cannot give you the other 23 at all.
This is worth knowing because most sign-compatibility tools quote a single percentage. There is no classical calculation that produces one from two sign names.

The Three Rashi Kootas / राशि कूट
Aries and Scorpio form the 6/8 axis — Shadashtak dosha. Bhakoot is all-or-nothing.
Same lord. Both signs are ruled by Mars, which scores the full 5 — the strongest possible result on this koota.
Aries is Kshatriya (warrior — assertive, protective) and Scorpio is Brahmin (priestly — reflective, values-led). Varna is directional: it scores 1 when the man's varna rank is equal or higher and 0 when it is lower, so this pair scores 1 with the Scorpio partner as the man and 0 the other way round.
The 6/8 Axis / भकूट
Shadashtak — the hardest of the three. One sign falls in the other's 6th house of illness, debt and conflict, the other in the 8th of upheaval and longevity. The reading is again asymmetric: the partner in the 8th position from the other carries more of the strain. This is the Bhakoot dosha the classics take most seriously, and the one where a cancellation should be demonstrated rather than assumed.
Shadashtak dosha is cancelled here
The widely accepted cancellation is a Graha Maitri of 5 — the two sign lords being the same planet or natural friends. Both Aries and Scorpio are ruled by Mars, so the dosha is treated as nullified and the pair is read on its other kootas.
The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs
Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Mars, the lord of Aries, is in its own sign in Scorpio, and Mars, the lord of Scorpio, is in its moolatrikona in Aries. Both directions land in a strong dignity, which happens only in the five pairs whose signs share a lord — here Mars, at home in both.
Lord of Aries · स्वक्षेत्र
Mars rules Scorpio as well as Aries, so it is in its own sign here — unforced, at ease, and answerable to nobody else. Both signs having the same lord is also exactly what gives this pair the full 5 on Graha Maitri.
Lord of Scorpio · मूलत्रिकोण · Mars, 0°–12°
Mars holds its moolatrikona in Aries — Mars, 0°–12°. This is the dignity below exaltation and above ownership, and arguably the most practically useful of the three, since it covers a span of degrees rather than a single exact point.
A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.
Mobility — Chara and Sthira
The twelve rashis divide three ways by mobility: Aries is Chara (movable) and Scorpio is Sthira (fixed). One sign is Chara, movable, and the other Sthira, fixed — the classically complementary mobility pairing. One partner initiates and the other consolidates, which works well while both accept the division and becomes a standing argument the moment the fixed partner is asked to move quickly or the movable one is asked to settle.
Mobility carries no guna either, and it is not the same distinction as element — it describes how a sign holds a position rather than what it cares about, which is why it explains a different class of argument from the Fire-versus-Water one below.
Aries in a Relationship
Aries pursues. It is direct to the point of bluntness, decides quickly, and would rather have the argument now than let it sit. There is no game-playing here, which is either refreshing or alarming depending on who is receiving it.
What it needs
A partner who does not require to be chased indefinitely and who says what they mean. Aries reads hinting as dishonesty.
Where it goes wrong
The temper arrives fast and leaves fast, which Aries treats as settled and the other person often does not. Boredom in a stable relationship is the real risk — Aries mistakes calm for something being wrong.
Aries horoscope →Scorpio in a Relationship
Scorpio does not do this casually. It gives everything or nothing, wants to know its partner completely, and is intensely loyal to whoever it has admitted past the perimeter. The intensity is the attraction and the difficulty in equal measure.
What it needs
Absolute honesty and a partner who does not flinch at depth. Scorpio would rather hear something painful than be managed.
Where it goes wrong
Jealousy and the long memory. A betrayal — including one Scorpio has inferred rather than witnessed — is not forgotten, and the withdrawal that follows is total. Control disguised as concern is the pattern to watch.
Scorpio horoscope →Where the Friction Sits
Aries works in Fire and Scorpio in Water, which is where the recurring misunderstanding will live. It shows up as a difference in pace and in what each treats as obvious rather than as a difference in intention. Both are ruled by Mars, so both partners want the same kind of thing and want it in the same way — including the same weakness, which nobody in the pair is positioned to notice.
Read the two profiles above against each other and the specific fault line is usually obvious: “The temper arrives fast and leaves fast, which Aries treats as settled and the other person often does not” meeting “jealousy and the long memory” is the pattern this pair will keep returning to.

Get the Other 23 Guna
Nadi, Gana, Yoni and Tara account for 21 of the 36 guna and all four need both birth nakshatras — which need birth time and place, not just the sign. Kundli matching calculates the full Ashtakoota, plus Mangal dosha and the 7th house, which sit outside Guna Milan entirely.

How Aries and Scorpio actually get along
Everything above is the arithmetic — the three rashi kootas a kundli match scores, the Bhakuta axis, Mars and Mars in each other’s signs. The Aries and Scorpio relationship guide is the other half: how the two communicate, where the friction shows up day to day, and what each tends to want from the other. Read this one for the guna, that one for the relationship.
