What a Sign Pair Can and Cannot Tell You
Ashtakoota awards 36 guna across eight tests. Only three of the eight can be read from two Moon signs: Varna, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot, worth 13 guna between them. The four heaviest tests — Nadi (8), Gana (6), Yoni (4) and Tara (3) — are decided by the birth nakshatra, and Vashya (2) turns on half-sign divisions the authorities assign differently. So a page like this one can give you 13 guna honestly and cannot give you the other 23 at all.
This is worth knowing because most sign-compatibility tools quote a single percentage. There is no classical calculation that produces one from two sign names.

The Three Rashi Kootas / राशि कूट
Sagittarius and Aquarius form the 3/11 axis — Trikonaikadash. Bhakoot is all-or-nothing.
Mutually neutral. Jupiter and Saturn are naturally neutral to each other.
Sagittarius is Kshatriya (warrior — assertive, protective) and Aquarius is Shudra (artisan — adaptable, service-minded). Varna is directional: it scores 1 when the man's varna rank is equal or higher and 0 when it is lower, so this pair scores 1 with the Sagittarius partner as the man and 0 the other way round.
The 3/11 Axis / भकूट
One sign is 3rd from the other — initiative, siblings, effort — and the other is 11th, the house of gains and fulfilled desire. Bhakoot awards the full 7. The dynamic favours the partner holding the 11th position, who gains from the other's drive, and it is one of the more reliably productive business pairings as well as a domestic one.
The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs
Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Jupiter, the lord of Sagittarius, is in a neutral sign in Aquarius, and Saturn, the lord of Aquarius, is in a neutral sign in Sagittarius. Neither direction is dramatic, so this test neither helps nor harms the pair.
Lord of Sagittarius · सम क्षेत्र
Aquarius belongs to Saturn, toward whom Jupiter is neither friendly nor hostile. Jupiter is therefore neither strengthened nor weakened in Aquarius — on this test the pair is simply not commented on in that direction, which is a more honest answer than manufacturing one.
Saturn in Sagittarius
Neutral signLord of Aquarius · सम क्षेत्र
Turned around, the answer is the same: Sagittarius belongs to Jupiter, Saturn is neither friendly nor hostile toward Jupiter, and so Saturn is neither strengthened nor weakened in Sagittarius. Neutral in both directions — six of the 66 pairs — means the dignity test declines to comment on this match at all, which is worth knowing before someone reads a silence as approval.
A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.
Mobility — Dvisvabhava and Sthira
The twelve rashis divide three ways by mobility: Sagittarius is Dvisvabhava (dual) and Aquarius is Sthira (fixed). Sthira meets Dvisvabhava. The fixed sign supplies the position and the dual sign supplies the flexibility around it, which is a workable arrangement so long as the dual partner's adaptability is not mistaken for agreement.
Mobility carries no guna either, and it is not the same distinction as element — it describes how a sign holds a position rather than what it cares about, which is why it explains a different class of argument from the Fire-versus-Air one below.
Sagittarius in a Relationship
Sagittarius is optimistic, honest to a fault, and best loved as a companion in something rather than as an audience. It wants shared adventure, shared beliefs and shared laughter, and it will tell you exactly what it thinks.
What it needs
Freedom without suspicion, and a partner with their own life. Sagittarius reads possessiveness as a fundamental insult.
Where it goes wrong
The bluntness wounds without intending to, and the aversion to being tied down makes it slow to commit — and prone to leaving the moment the relationship starts to feel like an obligation rather than a choice.
Sagittarius horoscope →Aquarius in a Relationship
Aquarius wants a friend first and a partner second, and the friendship is not a lesser thing — it is what makes the rest durable. It is loyal, unpossessive, and genuinely uninterested in conventional expectations of how a couple should behave.
What it needs
Independence, intellectual respect, and space that is not negotiated for. Aquarius needs to be left alone sometimes without it meaning anything.
Where it goes wrong
Emotional detachment at exactly the moment closeness is wanted. Aquarius processes feeling as an idea, which the partner experiences as being held at a distance during the hardest conversations.
Aquarius horoscope →Where the Friction Sits
Sagittarius works in Fire and Aquarius in Air, which is where the recurring misunderstanding will live. It shows up as a difference in pace and in what each treats as obvious rather than as a difference in intention. Jupiter and Saturn set different priorities, and in practice the argument is usually between those two priorities rather than between the two people.
Read the two profiles above against each other and the specific fault line is usually obvious: “The bluntness wounds without intending to, and the aversion to being tied down makes it slow to commit — and prone to leaving the moment the relationship starts to feel like an obligation rather than a choice” meeting “emotional detachment at exactly the moment closeness is wanted” is the pattern this pair will keep returning to.

Get the Other 23 Guna
Nadi, Gana, Yoni and Tara account for 21 of the 36 guna and all four need both birth nakshatras — which need birth time and place, not just the sign. Kundli matching calculates the full Ashtakoota, plus Mangal dosha and the 7th house, which sit outside Guna Milan entirely.

How Sagittarius and Aquarius actually get along
Everything above is the arithmetic — the three rashi kootas a kundli match scores, the Bhakuta axis, Jupiter and Saturn in each other’s signs. The Sagittarius and Aquarius relationship guide is the other half: how the two communicate, where the friction shows up day to day, and what each tends to want from the other. Read this one for the guna, that one for the relationship.
