What a Sign Pair Can and Cannot Tell You
Ashtakoota awards 36 guna across eight tests. Only three of the eight can be read from two Moon signs: Varna, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot, worth 13 guna between them. The four heaviest tests — Nadi (8), Gana (6), Yoni (4) and Tara (3) — are decided by the birth nakshatra, and Vashya (2) turns on half-sign divisions the authorities assign differently. So a page like this one can give you 13 guna honestly and cannot give you the other 23 at all.
This is worth knowing because most sign-compatibility tools quote a single percentage. There is no classical calculation that produces one from two sign names.

The Three Rashi Kootas / राशि कूट
Gemini and Capricorn form the 6/8 axis — Shadashtak dosha. Bhakoot is all-or-nothing.
Friend and neutral. The table is one-sided here: Mercury treats Saturn as neutral, while Saturn treats Mercury as a friend.
Gemini is Shudra (artisan — adaptable, service-minded) and Capricorn is Vaishya (merchant — practical, provident). Varna is directional: it scores 1 when the man's varna rank is equal or higher and 0 when it is lower, so this pair scores 1 with the Capricorn partner as the man and 0 the other way round.
The 6/8 Axis / भकूट
Shadashtak — the hardest of the three. One sign falls in the other's 6th house of illness, debt and conflict, the other in the 8th of upheaval and longevity. The reading is again asymmetric: the partner in the 8th position from the other carries more of the strain. This is the Bhakoot dosha the classics take most seriously, and the one where a cancellation should be demonstrated rather than assumed.
Shadashtak dosha applies and is not cancelled by the standard exception
Mercury and Saturn are not natural friends, so Graha Maitri scores 4 of 5 rather than the full 5 that cancels Bhakoot. Other cancellations exist — a shared nakshatra lord is the common one — but they need both birth nakshatras, not the signs.
The Two Sign Lords in Each Other’s Signs
Guna Milan never asks where each sign’s lord would stand in the other’s sign — but the question is answerable from the two rashis alone, and the answer differs across all 66 pairs of different signs. Mercury, the lord of Gemini, is in a neutral sign in Capricorn, and Saturn, the lord of Capricorn, is in a friend's sign in Gemini. Neither direction is dramatic, so this test neither helps nor harms the pair.
Lord of Gemini · सम क्षेत्र
Capricorn belongs to Saturn, toward whom Mercury is neither friendly nor hostile. Mercury is therefore neither strengthened nor weakened in Capricorn — on this test the pair is simply not commented on in that direction, which is a more honest answer than manufacturing one.
A dignity is not a score and there is no guna attached to it — this is a statement about how comfortably each sign’s lord sits in the other’s territory, which is the sort of thing an astrologer reads from the chart and a compatibility percentage cannot encode. In a real kundli match it would be weighed against where those planets actually fall in the two birth charts, which can strengthen or override it.
Mobility — Dvisvabhava and Chara
The twelve rashis divide three ways by mobility: Gemini is Dvisvabhava (dual) and Capricorn is Chara (movable). Chara meets Dvisvabhava, dual. The movable sign sets the direction and the dual sign adapts to it, which makes for unusually little friction over decisions — and unusually little resistance when a direction should have been questioned.
Mobility carries no guna either, and it is not the same distinction as element — it describes how a sign holds a position rather than what it cares about, which is why it explains a different class of argument from the Air-versus-Earth one below.
Gemini in a Relationship
Gemini needs to be talked to. Attraction here is intellectual before it is anything else, and the relationship survives on conversation — a Gemini who has stopped talking to you has already left in some measure.
What it needs
Mental stimulation, variety, and a partner who does not treat curiosity about other people as betrayal.
Where it goes wrong
The inconsistency is real: Gemini means it at the time and means something else later, which the other person experiences as unreliability. Difficult emotional conversations get deflected into cleverness.
Gemini horoscope →Capricorn in a Relationship
Capricorn is not demonstrative and is deeply serious about commitment. It shows love by building — a home, a future, a stable position — and it treats the relationship as something to be maintained rather than performed.
What it needs
Respect, a partner who takes responsibility seriously, and time. Capricorn warms over years, not weeks.
Where it goes wrong
The reserve reads as coldness, and work reliably wins the argument against the relationship. Capricorn is also quietly critical and slow to say what it actually needs, so the partner is left inferring.
Capricorn horoscope →Where the Friction Sits
Gemini works in Air and Capricorn in Earth, which is where the recurring misunderstanding will live. It shows up as a difference in pace and in what each treats as obvious rather than as a difference in intention. Mercury and Saturn set different priorities, and in practice the argument is usually between those two priorities rather than between the two people.
Read the two profiles above against each other and the specific fault line is usually obvious: “The inconsistency is real: Gemini means it at the time and means something else later, which the other person experiences as unreliability” meeting “the reserve reads as coldness, and work reliably wins the argument against the relationship” is the pattern this pair will keep returning to.

Get the Other 23 Guna
Nadi, Gana, Yoni and Tara account for 21 of the 36 guna and all four need both birth nakshatras — which need birth time and place, not just the sign. Kundli matching calculates the full Ashtakoota, plus Mangal dosha and the 7th house, which sit outside Guna Milan entirely.
