Why Gemini and Gemini Take All 13 — and Why That Is Not the Finding
Bhakoot reads nothing but the distance between the two Moon signs. Four of the seven distances pay the full 7 and 1/1 is one of them; the three that pay nothing are the axes Gemini forms with Taurus and Cancer (2/12), with Libra and Aquarius (5/9), and with Scorpio and Capricorn (6/8). None of those six can be reached by pairing Gemini with itself, so the 7 here is arithmetic rather than assessment.
Graha Maitri exists to catch a pair whose sign lords dislike each other, so for Gemini the question is who Mercury dislikes. Mercury counts Moon a natural enemy, so it is Gemini matched with Cancer where this koota actually bites. With Mercury on both sides there is no second lord and so nothing to weigh, and the test returns its maximum for the simplest reason available to it.
Varna is read from the element alone, and Gemini is air, which makes both partners Shudra — artisan — adaptable, service-minded — rank 1 of 4, below Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishya. The test normally pays 1 only when the man’s rank equals or exceeds the woman’s, and that condition is what decides the score for 54 of the 66 pairs of different signs. Here it is Shudra on both sides, so the direction stops mattering.
Which is why Gemini with Gemini lands on 13 of 13 and so does every other same-rashi pair, and why the total is the least informative thing on this page. A test that returns one answer to twelve different questions has not distinguished between them. What does distinguish them is Mercury’s own standing in Gemini — own sign, which no koota scores — and what doubling Gemini’s particular element and mobility does to two people.
The other 23 guna cannot appear on this page, because they need both birth nakshatras and those need two birth times. A shared Gemini Moon narrows the field to three birth stars instead of 27 — a real narrowing, and not an answer.

The Three Kootas Two Gemini Moons Can Settle / राशि कूट
One rashi counted from itself is the 1st in both directions, so the axis is 1/1 and Bhakoot pays in full. The pairings it zeroes are Gemini with Taurus, Cancer, Libra, Aquarius, Scorpio and Capricorn — and a sign forms none of those with itself.
Mercury rules both charts, and a shared lord is the strongest of the six results this koota returns. It is also the standard cancellation for Bhakoot dosha — which this pair has no use for, since 1/1 is not one of the afflicted axes.
Both partners are Shudra, rank 1 of 4, because Gemini is air and Varna is read from the element alone. One rank on both sides means the usual question of whose rank is higher never arises.
The 1/1 Axis, for Two Gemini Charts / एक ही राशि
Two charts in the same rashi share an outlook so completely that there is nothing to negotiate and nothing to learn. The classics award the full 7 and then warn that the pair reinforces each other's weaknesses as readily as their strengths.
Worth being precise about what that warning is not. It is not a dosha, nothing needs cancelling, and 1/1 keeps company with the three most workable axes in the scheme. The caution is about a missing counterweight, and for Gemini the missing counterweight is specific: no partner whose instinct is to settle the matter, and nothing more grounded in the room. Ten of the eleven pages where Gemini meets a different sign bring one of those two in from the other side. The eleventh is Libra: air as well, so nothing more grounded arrives there either, and movable where the counterweight would have to be fixed.
What Doubling Gemini Looks Like
The relationship is a conversation and very little else holds it up. Two Gemini Moons talk constantly, follow each other's tangents without irritation, and can go from strangers to genuinely close on the strength of one very long evening.
What this pair is unusually good at
Nothing deadlocks. Both revise willingly, neither treats a changed mind as a betrayal, and curiosity about other people is understood rather than policed — which is the friction Gemini most often has with the other eleven signs and does not have here.
What specifically goes wrong
There is no fixed point anywhere in this pair. Plans get revised so agreeably that few of them happen, and each partner quietly assumes the other is keeping track. Worse, both deflect a hard emotional subject into cleverness, so the difficult conversation can be postponed indefinitely by mutual and entirely charming consent.
Neither column is a prediction and neither carries a score. They describe what happens when a trait has no opposite in the room, which is the one thing a shared rashi does genuinely guarantee — unlike the 13 guna above, which it guarantees for eleven other pairs as well.
Mercury in Gemini — the One Thing That Varies Across the Twelve
Guna Milan never asks how the sign lord itself stands. For two different signs that question has two answers, one in each direction; for two of the same sign it has one, and that single answer is the only classical fact separating these twelve pages. Across the twelve it comes out three ways — one exaltation, five moolatrikonas and six plain ownerships — and this page is one of the six.
Lord of both charts · स्वक्षेत्र · ownership, without a stronger dignity
Mercury rules Gemini, so a shared Gemini Moon puts the lord of both charts in its own sign: unforced, at ease, answerable to nobody. What it is not is Mercury's best. Gemini carries neither Mercury's exaltation nor its moolatrikona — those are both in Virgo — so this is one of the six same-rashi pairs where the shared lord is comfortable rather than strong.
The same graha, its other rashi
Mercury rules two signs and does not stand the same way in both. In Gemini it is own sign; in Virgo it is exalted (15°). Every koota reads the two pairs identically — 13 of 13, Bhakoot 7, Graha Maitri 5, Varna 1 — so this is the whole of what separates them, and it favours Virgo.
Virgo & Virgo — the other doubled Mercury pair →A dignity is not a guna and no score attaches to it. It says how comfortably the lord of both charts sits in the rashi both Moons occupy — the kind of thing an astrologer reads and a compatibility percentage has no way to hold. In a real match it would be weighed against where Mercury actually falls in each chart, how strong it is there, and which dasha is running.
Doubled Air, Doubled Dvisvabhava — the Combination Only Gemini Has
Gemini is the dual air sign — the most adaptable element in the most adaptable mobility, and the only rashi that is both. Doubled, it is the least deadlockable pair in the zodiac and the least likely to finish anything, because adaptability on both sides means nobody has to be persuaded and nothing has to be settled.
Air is also Libra and Aquarius; Dvisvabhava is also Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. That is what makes this pair’s position unusual rather than merely similar. Gemini with Libra still puts two different mobilities in the room; Gemini with Virgo still puts two elements there. Only Gemini with Gemini puts neither, and that is the precise sense in which these twelve pages describe something the other 66 do not.
Neither element nor mobility carries any guna. Element decides what a sign cares about, mobility decides how immovably it holds it, and the twelve rashis are exactly the twelve combinations of the two — four elements by three mobilities, none repeated and none missing. So Gemini is the only rashi that is both air and dual, and this is the only pair in the zodiac that can double that combination.
The Same Rashi Is Not the Same Nakshatra
A rashi spans 30° and a nakshatra 13°20′, and the two do not divide evenly, so Gemini holds parts of exactly three birth stars and nine padas — split 2, 4 and 3 between them. Two Gemini Moons therefore have three candidates rather than 27 — a real narrowing, and nowhere near enough to settle the four kootas that depend on the nakshatra. Those four are worth 21 of the 36 guna between them, more than the 13 on this page.
| Nakshatra | Padas here | Dasha lord | Gana | Nadi | Yoni |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mrigashira | 2 of 4 | Mars | Deva | Madhya | Serpent |
| Ardra | 4 of 4 | Rahu | Manushya | Adi | Dog |
| Punarvasu | 3 of 4 | Jupiter | Deva | Adi | Cat |
Mrigashira and Punarvasu are each cut by a rashi boundary, so Gemini holds only part of both — which is why the three are not equal thirds. Gemini holds only Deva and Manushya nakshatras, so Gana cannot fall below 5 of 6 here whichever of the three each Moon fell in — one of the few things a shared Gemini does quietly guarantee. The three carry Madhya and Adi nadi between them, so two of them do share a nadi and Nadi's 8 guna turns on which pair of birth stars it is. Yoni draws on three different animal symbols here, and the opening mahadasha follows the nakshatra rather than the sign: Mars, Rahu, Jupiter are the three lords a Gemini Moon can start life under, and their periods are not the same length.
Gemini in a Relationship
Gemini needs to be talked to. Attraction here is intellectual before it is anything else, and the relationship survives on conversation — a Gemini who has stopped talking to you has already left in some measure.
What it needs
Mental stimulation, variety, and a partner who does not treat curiosity about other people as betrayal.
Where it goes wrong
The inconsistency is real: Gemini means it at the time and means something else later, which the other person experiences as unreliability. Difficult emotional conversations get deflected into cleverness.
Gemini horoscope and monthly rashifal →Read That Column Twice
On the other 66 pages that profile sits next to a different one and the reader compares the two. Here there is nothing to compare it with, which is the finding rather than an omission: what Gemini needs is what Gemini is being asked to supply, and what goes wrong for Gemini arrives from both directions at once.
So read the friction line as a description of the room rather than of a person. It is not a difficulty this pair negotiates its way through, because the negotiating position is identical on both sides of the table — two Shudra charts, both Dvisvabhava, both answering to Mercury.
That is not a verdict, and nothing here says the match is a poor one. It is the reason the honest recommendation for a same-rashi match is a full nakshatra reading instead of a number.
The Opposite Case: Gemini and Sagittarius
If 1/1 is the axis with nothing to negotiate, 7/7 is the one where everything is negotiated. Sagittarius sits in Gemini’s 7th house — the house of marriage itself — is fire against Gemini’s air, answers to Jupiter rather than Mercury, and holds precisely what Gemini does not. Bhakoot pays that axis the same 7 it pays this one, which is a useful reminder that the koota is not measuring similarity.
