The month ahead
Love & Relationships
Attraction is strong but judgement is not at its sharpest. Enjoy the month and postpone irreversible decisions about it to the next one.
Career & Work
An opportunity arrives underspecified. Ask the awkward clarifying questions before agreeing; the vagueness is not deliberate but it is not harmless either.
Health
Digestion asks for attention. Lighter evening meals and a consistent eating time do more this month than any addition to your routine would.
Finance
A financial decision made for emotional reasons will look poor in three months. Notice which of this month's decisions that describes.
These are general monthly frames for the sign. The parts of this page that state something specific — the solar month table below, the cycle lengths — are computed from the rashi itself and hold regardless of the month. Anything tied to your own chart needs your birth details.
Solar month
Mesha Sankranti — the Sun's month in Mesha
Sankranti to sankranti
New moon to new moon (synodic)
A thirtieth of the lunar month
The Sun enters sidereal Mesha at Mesha Sankranti, around Apr 14, and stays about a month. This is an astronomical event rather than a calendar convention — Mesha Sankranti is kept as Baisakhi in Punjab, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Vishu in Kerala and Pohela Boishakh in Bengal — the solar new year across most of India.
Solar and lunar months do not have the same length, which is the root of most confusion about Hindu dates. A solar month is about 30½ days; a lunar month is 29.53, divided into two pakshas of fifteen tithis. Twelve lunar months therefore fall roughly eleven days short of the solar year, and an extra month — Adhika Maasa — is inserted about every 32 to 33 months to bring them back into step. Because a tithi is 0.98 days rather than exactly one, tithis also slide against calendar dates from month to month.
Surya gochara
The Sun through all twelve houses from Mesha
A transit is never judged on its own — it is judged by which house it falls in counted from the reader's rashi. The Sun spends about a month in each sign, so this table is the shape of the whole year for Aries, one row per month. Counting is forward and inclusive, so Mesha itself is the 1st and not the 12th.
| House | Sun in | Around | What that month concerns |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Kendra | Aries Mesha | Apr 14 – May 14 | Self, body, personality, life path, first impressions, head and physical appearance. |
| 2nd Maraka | Taurus Vrishabha | May 15 – Jun 14 | Wealth, family, speech, food, accumulated assets, early childhood, immediate family. |
| 3rd Upachaya | Gemini Mithuna | Jun 15 – Jul 16 | Courage, siblings, short travels, communication, hands and arms, neighbours, hobbies. |
| 4th Kendra | Cancer Karka | Jul 17 – Aug 16 | Mother, home, property, vehicles, inner peace, education base, emotional foundation. |
| 5th Trikona | Leo Simha | Aug 17 – Sep 16 | Intelligence, children, creativity, romance, speculation, past-life merit (Poorva Punya). |
| 6th Dusthana | Virgo Kanya | Sep 17 – Oct 17 | Enemies, diseases, debts, service, daily routine, pets, competition, legal issues. |
| 7th Kendra | Libra Tula | Oct 18 – Nov 16 | Marriage, life partner, business partnerships, public dealings, contracts, open enemies. |
| 8th Dusthana | Scorpio Vrishchika | Nov 17 – Dec 15 | Longevity, sudden events, inheritance, occult, transformation, in-laws, joint finances. |

| 11th Upachaya | Aquarius Kumbha | Feb 13 – Mar 14 | Gains, income, elder siblings, fulfilment of desires, friends, networks, aspirations. |

The highlighted row is the Sun in Mesha itself — your own month, when the Sun is in the 1st from your rashi. The Sun is a mild malefic, so this is classically a period of exposure and effort rather than ease; the months it favours most are the Upachaya houses, the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th, where malefics gain strength. House meanings link through to the twelve bhavas in full.

Questions
Aries monthly horoscope — common questions
What is the Sun's month for Aries?+
The Sun enters sidereal Mesha at Mesha Sankranti, around Apr 14, and leaves about 30½ days later. Mesha Sankranti is kept as Baisakhi in Punjab, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Vishu in Kerala and Pohela Boishakh in Bengal — the solar new year across most of India. That month is the Sun in the 1st house from your rashi — traditionally a period of exposure and visible effort rather than ease, since the Sun in the 1st tends to burn as much as it illuminates.
Why does a monthly horoscope track the Sun rather than the Moon?+
Because the Sun is the graha whose sign changes on a monthly cadence. The Sun crosses one rashi in about 30½ days — sankranti to sankranti — so a solar month and a change of sign are the same event. The Moon changes sign every two and a quarter days, which makes it the driver of a daily or weekly reading, and Jupiter takes about one year per sign, which makes it the driver of a yearly one. Each timeframe belongs to whichever graha moves at that speed; that is what makes the three readings different in kind rather than just in length.
Is a lunar month the same as a solar month?+
No, and the difference is why the Hindu calendar needs an extra month periodically. A solar month runs from one sankranti to the next, about 30½ days. A lunar month is the synodic period, new moon to new moon, and that is 29.53 days — split into two pakshas of fifteen tithis each, the bright Shukla and the dark Krishna. A tithi is a thirtieth of that, about 0.98 days, which is why tithis drift against calendar dates. And the sidereal month, the Moon's actual circuit of the zodiac, is shorter again at 27.32 days. Twelve lunar months fall about eleven days short of a solar year, so an intercalary Adhika Maasa is inserted roughly every 32 or 33 months to keep the two in step.
Which solar month is best for Aries?+
The classical answer counts from your rashi rather than naming a calendar month. The Sun in the 11th house from Mesha — that is, when the Sun is in Aquarius — is the most favoured of the twelve for gains and income, and the 3rd and 10th are also good, because the Sun is a malefic that strengthens in the Upachaya houses. The months to be careful in are the Sun in the 4th house (Cancer), which unsettles domestic matters, the 7th (Libra), which brings friction in partnership, and the 8th (Scorpio). The full table on this page gives all twelve.
Should I read this from my Sun sign or my Moon sign?+
Your Moon sign. Vedic astrology reads the Chandra rashi as primary — the reverse of the Western convention — and gochara, transit reading, is counted from the Moon sign specifically. Everything on this page numbered as a house from Mesha assumes Mesha is your Moon sign. If you only know the sign matching your birth date, that is a tropical Sun sign, and on the sidereal zodiac it is frequently a different sign again. A free Kundli gives you the Moon sign and nakshatra to read from.
