Where the Moon stands from Makara tomorrow
At sunrise tomorrow the Moon is at 21.5° of Kumbha (Aquarius), which is the 2nd rashi counted from Makara. That is the Dhana bhava, wealth, speech and family. Money already held rather than money coming in, and what is said within the family.
Read as neither help nor hindrance. This is the group lineages disagree over — some treat the 9th as fully favourable, being the house of fortune, and some treat the 2nd as unfavourable. If a day matters, the tithi, the nakshatra and the karana decide it rather than this.
It is already 21.5° through Kumbha at sunrise and moves 12° to 15° in a day, so it leaves for the next rashi before tomorrow ends — the house count above holds for the morning rather than the whole day.
Read for whether to begin something tomorrow, not for how it will turn out — and against the rashi rather than against your chart. The sections below give the other twelve positions, the dated windows, and the Tara Bala wheel a muhurta weighs alongside this.

What actually changes between today and tomorrow
Worth being concrete about, because a page headed “tomorrow” that is yesterday’s prose with a different date on it is not telling you anything. Five things genuinely differ, and each of them is computed rather than asserted.
And with it Rahu Kaal, Yamaghanta and Gulika Kaal — each occupies a different eighth of daylight tomorrow than today, because which eighth is set by the weekday. Gulika, for instance, walks backwards one eighth per day through the week.
A tithi runs 20 to 27 hours, so it does not line up with a day. Over the 730-day record 34 tithis are skipped entirely and 23 name two consecutive days.
All three advance. The karana turns over twice as fast as the tithi, being half of one, so tomorrow's is at least two steps on.
The Moon covers 12° to 15° in a day and a rashi is 30°, so it changes sign every second or third day — which is what moves the Chandra Bala count from Makara.
Sunrise at New Delhi moves across a 113-minute range through the year, and Rahu Kaal's length with it — 77 minutes near the winter solstice, 105 near the summer one.
Saturn owns Makara today, tomorrow and in a century. The dignities, the three nakshatras inside the rashi and the nine padas are fixed. Only the transits move, which is the whole reason a daily reading exists.
The twelve positions
Chandra Bala from Makara, all twelve rashis
The transiting Moon is always in one of the twelve, so a Capricorn reading on any day is one of twelve situations. The house count is arithmetic — subtract your rashi from the Moon’s. The grouping into favourable, middling and avoided is the muhurta convention, and the last column is how many of the 730 days from 2026-01-01 to 2027-12-31 the Moon actually spent there at sunrise, counted rather than divided.
| House | Moon in | Bhava | Reads for | Chandra Bala | Days |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | Makara · Capricorn | Tanu | the body and the self | Favourable | 68 |
| 2nd | Kumbha · Aquarius | Dhana | wealth, speech and family | Middling | 62 |
| 3rd | Meena · Pisces | Sahaja | effort, siblings and short journeys | Favourable | 58 |
| 4th | Mesha · Aries | Bandhu | home, mother and comfort | Avoided | 57 |
| 5th | Vrishabha · Taurus | Putra | children, learning and creativity | Middling | 55 |
| 6th | Mithuna · Gemini | Shatru | competition, debt and disease | Favourable | 56 |
| 7th | Karka · Cancer | Kalatra | partnership, spouse and trade | Favourable | 57 |
| 8th | Simha · Leo | Randhra | upheaval, the hidden and longevity | Avoided · Chandrashtama | 58 |
| 9th | Kanya · Virgo | Bhagya | fortune, dharma and long journeys | Middling | 61 |
| 10th | Tula · Libra | Karma | action, career and standing | Favourable | 65 |
| 11th | Vrishchika · Scorpio | Labha | gain, income and networks | Favourable | 66 |
| 12th | Dhanu · Sagittarius | Vyaya | expenditure, release and distant places | Avoided | 67 |
Houses 1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 from Makara.
Houses 2, 5, 9 from Makara.
Houses 4, 8, 12 from Makara.
Six of the twelve houses are in the favourable group, so about half of all days must fall there, and they do: 370 of 730, or 51%. Saying so is the point rather than an admission. Chandra Bala is a filter that removes the 182 days you would not choose, and the field it leaves is far too wide to be a forecast — the actual selection is made on the tithi, on Tara Bala from the nakshatra, on the karana, and finally on the chart. A daily percentage built on this would be a coin flip in a suit.
Without the arithmetic
Spotting Makara's Chandrashtama in any panchang
A printed panchang gives you the nakshatra, not the rashi, so the shortcut everyone wants — glance at the almanac and know whether it is your Chandrashtama — needs one translation. For Makara the eighth rashi is Simha (Leo), and Simha is covered by 3 nakshatras: Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni. That is the whole conversion, with one complication: one of them is cut by the rashi boundary rather than sitting inside it.
| Nakshatra in the panchang | Padas inside Simha | Lord | What it settles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magha | all four padas | Ketu | Settles it. Whenever the panchang reads Magha, the Moon is in Simha and this is Chandrashtama for Makara. |
| Purva Phalguni | all four padas | Venus | Settles it. Whenever the panchang reads Purva Phalguni, the Moon is in Simha and this is Chandrashtama for Makara. |
| Uttara Phalguni | pada 1 | Sun | Does not settle it. Only pada 1 of Uttara Phalguni lies in Simha — the other 3 are in Kanya, so you need the pada or the Moon's degree. |
So the practical rule for Makara is: Magha or Purva Phalguni in the panchang means Chandrashtama outright, no further checking. Uttara Phalguni is a maybe — a pada is 3°20′, so that nakshatra spans the boundary and only the listed quarters count. Most published panchangs give the pada or the Moon’s degree alongside the nakshatra, and either resolves it.
And the other end: the Moon back in Makara
The same lookup for the first house, which is the Moon returning to your own rashi. For Makara that is Uttara Ashadha (padas 2, 3, 4), Shravana (all four padas), Dhanishta (padas 1, 2). Traditionally read as a day when your own state is more prominent than anything outside it, and it is a useful landmark for a different reason: it is where your lunar month starts. Count forward from the Moon in Makara and Chandrashtama arrives about 16 days later, every month, for life.
All of it depends on your Moon actually being in Makara, which is the one thing a newspaper column cannot know about you — and the one thing a free Kundli settles for good.

Every Makara Chandrashtama in 2026 and 2027
The Moon returns to Simha once a sidereal month, so over the 730 days from 2026-01-01 to 2027-12-31 this position comes round 27 times. Each row is the run of sunrises on which the Moon stood in Simha, taken straight from the same census the table above is built on — 23 of the 27 windows cover two sunrises and 4 cover three.

Read the tithi column downwards and it walks backwards through the lunar month. That is not drift in the data, it is the two months disagreeing: the Moon comes back to Simha every 27.32 days but the tithi cycle takes 29.53, so each window lands about two tithis earlier than the last and the whole thing comes round in roughly a year. Over the record Makara’s Chandrashtama coincided with an Ekadashi 4 times, with Purnima 1, and with Amavasya 2 — collisions worth knowing about, because those are the days most likely to already be in somebody’s calendar.
These are sunrises, not boundaries. The Moon enters and leaves Simha whenever it does, usually in the night at one end or the other, so a two-sunrise window is a stretch of a little over two days rather than exactly two, and a strict observance would start and end it from the ingress rather than from a sunrise.
The other half
Tara Bala, and why a Capricorn page can only get you three quarters of the way
Muhurta does not check Chandra Bala on its own. It checks Chandra Bala and Tara Bala together, because the two count different things: Chandra Bala counts rashis from your natal Moon’s sign, Tara Bala counts nakshatras from your natal Moon’s star. Nine taras — Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyari, Sadhaka, Vadha, Mitra, Ati-Mitra — and since there are 27 nakshatras the cycle repeats three times, so every tara is held by three stars rather than one. Three of the nine are rejected across the board: Vipat (danger and loss; not chosen for beginnings or travel), Pratyari (obstruction; avoided where another party must consent), Vadha (harm; the heaviest of the three, rejected outright).
Here is the limit of what a page written for a rashi can do, stated plainly rather than papered over. Makara spans 3 nakshatras — Uttara Ashadha (padas 2, 3, 4), Shravana (all four padas), Dhanishta (padas 1, 2) — so a Capricorn Moon sits in one of three possible janma nakshatras, and each gives a different tara wheel. Chandra Bala works from the rashi alone, which is why this page can compute it for you. Tara Bala cannot, so what follows is the wheel for each candidate. Find your janma nakshatra once — a free Kundli gives it with the pada — and one of these three columns is yours for life.
| Tara | Reads for | From Uttara Ashadha | From Shravana | From Dhanishta |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Janma · 1st | the birth star — intensifies rather than helps | Uttara Ashadha, Krittika, Uttara Phalguni | Shravana, Rohini, Hasta | Dhanishta, Mrigashira, Chitra |
| Sampat · 2nd | wealth; the strongest for anything undertaken for gain | Shravana, Rohini, Hasta | Dhanishta, Mrigashira, Chitra | Shatabhisha, Ardra, Swati |
| Vipat · 3rd | danger and loss; not chosen for beginnings or travel | Dhanishta, Mrigashira, Chitra | Shatabhisha, Ardra, Swati | Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu, Vishakha |
| Kshema · 4th | well-being; for what needs to hold rather than to win | Shatabhisha, Ardra, Swati | Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu, Vishakha | Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya, Anuradha |
| Pratyari · 5th | obstruction; avoided where another party must consent | Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu, Vishakha | Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya, Anuradha | Revati, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha |
| Sadhaka · 6th | accomplishment; for finishing rather than starting | Uttara Bhadrapada, Pushya, Anuradha | Revati, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha | Ashwini, Magha, Moola |
| Vadha · 7th | harm; the heaviest of the three, rejected outright | Revati, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha | Ashwini, Magha, Moola | Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha |
| Mitra · 8th | friendship; for dealings with people rather than things | Ashwini, Magha, Moola | Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha | Krittika, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha |
| Ati-Mitra · 9th | close friendship, also Parama Mitra; the mildest of the nine | Bharani, Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha | Krittika, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha | Rohini, Hasta, Shravana |
The three highlighted rows are the ones that change a decision. For an Uttara Ashadha Moon they come to the Moon standing in Dhanishta, Mrigashira, Chitra, Purva Bhadrapada, Punarvasu, Vishakha, Revati, Ashlesha, Jyeshtha — nine of the 27, so about a third of every month is out on this test alone, before Chandra Bala is even consulted. The other 2 columns hold the same nine rotated round the wheel, which is exactly why the janma nakshatra has to be right before any of it is worth using.
Put the two together and you have what a muhurta actually starts from: the Moon’s rashi counted from Makara, and the Moon’s nakshatra counted from your janma star. Six of the twelve houses pass the first test and six of the nine taras are not rejected by the second, so a day clearing both is roughly a one-in-three proposition — a real filter, and still nothing like a forecast. The tithi, the karana, the yoga and the ascendant at the hour in question all come after.
The Moon's pace
Why tomorrow's position is often today's, and sometimes not
The Moon crosses a rashi in about 2¼ days, which is the least convenient interval possible: long enough that consecutive days often share a position, short enough that you cannot assume they will. Counted over the record, the Moon changed rashi 319 times, and the stay was 2 sunrises on 231 of them and 3 sunrises on 88 of them — never fewer than 2 and never more than 3, averaging 2.28. So on roughly 44% of days tomorrow's Chandra Bala from Makara differs from today's, and on the rest it holds.
The stays are uneven for the same reason the day counts in the table above are: the Moon's orbit is an ellipse and it travels between about 11.8° and 15.3° a day. Near apogee it is slow and lingers; near perigee it is quick and passes through. Over these two years that put 68 sunrises in Makara against only 55 in Vrishabha, where an even division would give 60.8 each.
That unevenness is not about the rashis
It is where lunar apogee happened to sit during 2026 and 2027. Apogee travels right round the zodiac every 8.85 years, so the same census taken five years from now would put the surplus somewhere else entirely. Any page that presents a two-year count as a standing property of a sign — yours or anyone’s — has mistaken an ephemeris for a destiny, and the figures here are given with the span they were counted over for exactly that reason.
The lord
Where Saturn stands, and why it barely moves
Makara is Saturn’s rashi, so every Capricorn reading is partly a reading of Saturn. That is the half of the picture the Moon does not supply — and the half that makes “tomorrow” a smaller question than it sounds, because Saturn holds a rashi for about 2½ years and completes the zodiac in 29.46 years.
Computed for 29 August 2026. Saturn is 19.7° into Meena (Pisces) — 66% of the way through it, with 10.3° still to run — and moving 0.052° a day, backwards, which is what retrograde means here: apparent motion against the zodiac as seen from Earth, not an actual reversal. Counted from Makara that is the 3rd house, the Sahaja bhava, effort, siblings and short journeys.
Saturn is neither exalted nor debilitated in Meena — the rashi belongs to Jupiter, so it is a guest, working through someone else's sign.
Bhava only, deliberately. The favourable-and-avoided grouping in the table further up is Chandra Bala, which is a rule about the transiting Moon; there is no equivalent twelve-house verdict for a sign lord, and inventing one by reusing the Moon’s bands would be borrowing a claim the tradition does not make.
Your 1st and 2nd houses. Saturn is at home in either and strongest there.
Uchcha — Saturn at its most effective, and your 10th house.
Neecha, exactly opposite the exaltation, and your 4th house.
Saturn owns two rashis, and from Makara they are the 1st and the 2nd
This is the thing that separates two rashis that share a lord. Saturn rules Makara and Kumbha, so Capricorn and Aquarius readings are both Saturn readings — but counted from Makara those two rashis are the 1st and the 2nd house, which is a different pair of concerns from the one they make for Aquarius. From Makara, Saturn governs the Tanu bhava (the body and the self) and the Dhana bhava (wealth, speech and family). Anything that reads as a Saturn matter lands in those two areas of life for you, and in two different ones for the other rashi it rules.
And one more pair of fixed points, since this page is about the Moon: the Moon is exalted in Vrishabha at 3° and debilitated in Vrishchika at 3°, which counted from Makara are your 5th and 11th houses. So the two or three days a month when the transiting Moon is at its classical strongest fall in a middling Chandra Bala position for you, and the days it is weakest fall in a favourable one. Dignity and Chandra Bala are independent schemes and they do not have to line up.
Those three do not change — they are the same in 2026 and in 2126, which is why they sit here as fixed background rather than as tomorrow’s news. The moving part is which rashi Saturn is standing in, and at about 2½ years per rashi that is a figure with a shelf life of weeks or years, not hours — so it is computed at build time and printed with its date, while the panchang and the Moon are resolved on your device. Different quantities, different treatment, and the date on each says which is which.
Method
How the Moon's rashi is worked out
The nakshatra is not enough to fix the rashi, which is the trap here. Nine of the 27 nakshatras straddle a 30° boundary, so on about a third of days knowing the nakshatra leaves the rashi genuinely undecided. The Moon's sidereal longitude is therefore computed directly, at each day's tabulated sunrise, using the same Lahiri ayanamsa the panchang was generated with.
That gives a free check on both calculations. The nakshatra implied by our own lunar series agrees with the independently generated table — computed from JPL DE421 through Skyfield — on 729 of the 730 days. The single disagreement falls 14 arcseconds from a nakshatra boundary, which is the expected size of the gap between a truncated Meeus series and DE421 rather than a fault in either. Fourteen arcseconds is about one twenty-thousandth of a nakshatra.
One consequence worth stating: the position above is read at sunrise, which is the convention a panchang follows, and the Moon does not wait for the next one. If it is already past 15° of a rashi at sunrise it will leave before the day is out, and the reading holds for the morning rather than the evening. Where that happens, the block above says so.

Questions
Tomorrow's Capricorn horoscope — common questions
Is tomorrow's Capricorn horoscope just today's moved along by a day?+
No, and the difference is measurable rather than rhetorical. Four of the panchang's five limbs change overnight — tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana all advance, and the vara changes by definition. Rahu Kaal, Yamaghanta and Gulika Kaal each jump to a different eighth of the day, because which eighth they occupy is set by the weekday. Sunrise moves, so every window derived from it moves with it. And the Moon travels 12° to 15° in a day, which is enough to change its rashi roughly every 2.3 days — so the Chandra Bala count from Makara is different tomorrow than today about 44% of the time. What does not change is your chart: Saturn still owns Makara, the dignities are fixed, and the nakshatra padas do not move.
What is Chandrashtama, and when is mine?+
Chandrashtama is the stretch when the transiting Moon passes through the eighth rashi counted from your birth Moon sign. For Makara that is Simha (Leo). It is the one Chandra Bala position every lineage agrees on and the only one most people have heard of, widely observed in the south, and it is traditionally avoided for beginning anything of consequence — a purchase, a signing, a journey, a launch. It comes round once every sidereal month for everyone, and it lasts about 2.2 days: over the 730 days from 2026-01-01 to 2027-12-31 the Moon stood in Simha at sunrise on 58 of them. The tradition reads it as a low-energy stretch rather than a dangerous one — a poor time to commit, not a time to be afraid of.
Do I read this by my Moon sign or my Sun sign?+
By the Moon, and on this page it matters more than usual. A Vedic rashifal is written for the Chandra rashi — the sign the Moon occupied at your birth — and the Chandra Bala count on this page is meaningless read against anything else, because it is literally a count of houses from your natal Moon to today's Moon. If your Moon is not in Makara, this page's house count is not yours. A free Kundli will tell you your Moon sign and nakshatra in a few seconds, and it is worth doing once.
Why does roughly half of every month come out favourable for Makara?+
Because six of the twelve houses are in the favourable group, so about half of all days must be — and the count bears it out: 370 of the 730 days in the record, or 51%. Chandra Bala is a filter, not a forecast. It removes the 182 days on which the Moon stood in Mesha, Simha, Dhanu — your 4th, 8th, 12th houses — and leaves a field far too wide to be a prediction. Narrowing it further is what Tara Bala, the tithi, the karana and your own chart are for, and this page gives you the first of those in full.
How do I tell from a printed panchang whether tomorrow is my Chandrashtama?+
Convert the rashi into nakshatras once and you can read it off any almanac. For Makara the eighth rashi is Simha, which is covered by Magha, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni. Magha or Purva Phalguni in the panchang settles it — the Moon is in Simha for the whole of those nakshatras. Uttara Phalguni (only pada 1) is cut by the rashi boundary, so that need the pada or the Moon's degree to resolve. The dated table on this page lists all 27 windows between 2026-01-01 and 2027-12-31 if you would rather not do the lookup at all.
Does tomorrow's Capricorn reading depend on Saturn as well as the Moon?+
Yes, and on a completely different timescale, which is worth separating out. Saturn is Makara's lord, and Saturn holds a rashi for about 2½ years, taking 29.46 years to complete the circuit. That means it contributes nothing to the difference between today and tomorrow: it will be in the same rashi at the same degree, give or take 0.052°. It sets the background a Capricorn reading happens against, and the Moon supplies the day-to-day variation. Saturn also rules Kumbha, which from Makara is your 2nd house — so a Saturn matter reaches you through the 1st and 2nd houses, and reaches an Aquarius native through two different ones.
Can I choose a muhurta for tomorrow from this page?+
You can shortlist from it, which is genuinely most of the work. If tomorrow's Chandra Bala from Makara falls in the avoided group, or the karana is Vishti, or the yoga is Vyatipata or Vaidhriti, you can set the day aside without going further. What this page cannot do is the last step, because it does not have three things a muhurta needs: the limbs' end-times to the minute rather than their value at sunrise, sunrise for your own coordinates rather than New Delhi's, and the ascendant at the moment in question weighed against your birth chart. For anything that matters, use this to narrow the days and have a pandit fix the window.
Need tomorrow judged properly?
Chandra Bala narrows the days. Fixing the window needs your chart and your coordinates.
