The 3rd Lord in Each of the Twelve Houses
Houses here are whole signs: the ascendant’s sign is the 1st house, the next sign the 2nd, and so on round the zodiac. The 3rd lord is the graha that rules the sign falling in the 3rd, so it changes with the ascendant — Mercury for Aries, Moon for Taurus, Sun for Gemini, Mercury for Cancer, Venus for Leo, Mars for Virgo, Jupiter for Libra, Saturn for Scorpio, Saturn for Sagittarius, Jupiter for Capricorn, Mars for Aquarius and Venus for Pisces. In the Parashari method a bhava lord carries the matters of its house to wherever it sits; for the 3rd those matters are younger siblings, courage and effort, communication style, and short journeys.
