Cancer Rashifal July 2027 (Karka Rashi): The Sun Comes Home at 5:42 am on 17 July
Published 2026-08-22 | Live Pandit Ji
July is the month the Sun returns to Karka Rashi. It crosses the sidereal boundary from Gemini into Cancer at 5:42 am on Saturday 17 July 2027 — Karka Sankranti, and in the sidereal reckoning the beginning of Dakshinayana, the Sun’s six-month southward course. For every other sign that instant moves the Sun from one house to another. For you it puts the Sun on your own sign, which happens once a year and only in this month.
Two more planets follow it in. Venus crosses onto Karka Rashi at 1:42 am on Friday 23 July and Mercury at 6:28 pm on Friday 30 July. So in a fortnight your sign goes from holding nothing but Ketu to holding three planets and a node. All three arrive behind Ketu, which sits at 19°02′ falling to 17°23′ of Cancer, inside Ashlesha pada 1 for the entire month.
It is worth being exact about what the Sun and Ketu do and do not do. The Sun enters Cancer at 14°06′ behind Ketu’s degree and ends July still short of it. The two are exact only on 4 August, at 6:07 am. So July is the approach and not the contact. Anyone telling you the eclipse-like quality of a Sun–Ketu meeting lands this month is a fortnight early; what lands in July is the Sun coming home, with a node further along the same sign.
Karka Sankranti, and What Dakshinayana Actually Means
A Sankranti is the moment the Sun’s sidereal longitude crosses a sign boundary, and we can compute it to the minute: 5:42 am on 17 July 2027. Karka Sankranti is the one that turns the year around. From here the Sun begins its southward journey, and the classical texts treat the Uttarayana half of the year — the northward half — as the more auspicious of the two for undertakings. Dakshinayana is the inward half: fewer beginnings, more completion, more practice.
We give the ingress instant and stop there. The day on which Karka Sankranti is observed — and the punya kaal within it — varies between panchang traditions depending on where the crossing falls relative to sunrise, and we are not going to manufacture a single answer to that. What is not in dispute is the astronomy: 5:42 am, 17 July, and from that instant your sign holds the Sun for the rest of the month, ending at 14°06′ of Cancer in Pushya pada 4.
Before that the Sun spends sixteen days in your twelfth house, which is where it always sits in the weeks before a birthday-season return. The twelfth is expenditure, sleep, isolation and release, and a Sun there is the annual low ebb. Mercury and Venus are in that house with it. So the shape of July for a Karka reader is unusually clean: sixteen days of depletion, then the Sun comes home and refills the tank. The turn is at 5:42 am on the 17th and it is not gradual.
A Twelfth-House New Moon, and Mercury’s Station
The New Moon of 8:32 am on Sunday 4 July forms at 17°42′ of Gemini in Ardra pada 4 — in your twelfth house. This is the deepest point of your year. A New Moon in the twelfth is not a beginning; it is the bottom of a breath. It is the classical moment for retreat, for clearing debts, for letting go of what has run its course, and it is the worst moment in the whole of July for launching anything. Fast lightly, sleep properly, and start nothing on the 4th.
Then the machinery starts up. Mercury clears 12° from the Sun on 2 July and stops being combust. It turns direct at 1:10 am on Monday 5 July at 3°52′ of Gemini, in your twelfth house, ending twenty-five days of retrograde motion. It re-enters Ardra at 1:58 am on Wednesday 14 July and Punarvasu at 3:39 am on Sunday 25 July, before crossing onto your sign on the 30th.
Mercury and Venus are exact in that twelfth house at 2:52 pm on Thursday 1 July, at 3°41′ of Gemini — the only exact conjunction anywhere in July 2027. In the twelfth house, two benefics meeting reads as money moving out gracefully rather than badly: a payment made, a trip booked, something given. It is a good day for generosity and a poor one for expecting a return.
Monday 5 July: Four Things Inside Fifty Hours
Your Chandra window this month is a tight piece of timing. The Moon reaches Karka Rashi at 4:01 am on Monday 5 July and leaves at 4:03 am on Wednesday 7 July — forty-eight hours two minutes, almost exactly two days. Four things happen around its opening. Mercury turns direct at 1:10 am, two hours fifty-one minutes before the Moon arrives. Mars crosses from Leo into Virgo at 4:24 am, twenty-three minutes after. Jagannath Rath Yatra falls on the same Monday. And it is the last open day of the 82-day clear run that began on 15 April.
For the sign the Moon rules, having your Chandra window open on the year’s last clear day, with your ruler’s own festival on it and Mercury newly direct, is about as favourable a coincidence as the arithmetic produces. If there is one thing in July that needs the sky behind it, put it between 4:01 am on Monday the 5th and 4:03 am on Wednesday the 7th — and preferably on the 5th itself, before the closures begin.
From Tuesday the 6th, Shukra asta begins: Venus falls inside 10° of the Sun and is invisible until 17 September, with the exact conjunction on 12 August. Then Wednesday 14 July brings Devshayani Ekadashi and the start of Chaturmas, which runs to 10 November. That is why the open run ends on the 5th — not because of the tithi, but because Venus goes dark on the 6th. Nothing after the 5th is clear.
A Full Moon in Your Seventh House on Guru Purnima
The Full Moon forms at 9:14 pm on Sunday 18 July, at 1°36′ of Capricorn in Uttara Ashadha pada 2, which is your seventh house of marriage and partnership. Because you are a Moon-ruled sign, a Full Moon anywhere is loud for you; a Full Moon in the house of the other person, opposite a Sun newly returned to your own sign, is louder. This is the axis of self and partner lit from both ends on the same night.
Rahu holds the same seventh house all month, sliding from 19°02′ to 17°23′ and staying in Shravana pada 3 throughout. The Full Moon at 1°36′ is 17°26′ away from Rahu, so it is a Full Moon in the house Rahu occupies and not a Full Moon on Rahu — that distinction is worth holding, because the second would be a genuinely difficult configuration and the first is simply revealing. And it falls on Guru Purnima, with the Purnima tithi ending at the same instant, since a Full Moon is the moment the tithi closes.
Saturn is debilitated in Aries, in your tenth house of career, and it barely moves: 2°18′ to 3°34′, one degree sixteen minutes in thirty-one days. It clears 3°20′ of Aries around 22 July, leaving the Revati–Ashwini gandanta it entered on 3 June. That is a date rather than a minute, because at 0.04° a day the crossing shifts by a day or two depending on the ayanamsa, and a minute would be false precision. A debilitated Saturn in the tenth is the year’s standing career difficulty for Karka: effort that does not convert into recognition as quickly as it should.
The Month’s Fixed Points
- Thursday 1 July, 2:52 pm — Mercury and Venus are exact at 3°41′ of Gemini, in your twelfth house. The only exact conjunction in July 2027.
- Friday 2 July — Mercury clears 12° from the Sun and is no longer combust.
- Sunday 4 July, 8:32 am — the New Moon forms in your twelfth house at 17°42′ of Gemini, in Ardra pada 4. The lowest point of your year. That day’s panchang.
- Monday 5 July, 1:10 am — Mercury turns direct in your twelfth house, two hours fifty-one minutes before the Moon reaches your sign.
- 5 July 4:01 am to 7 July 4:03 am — the Moon is on Karka Rashi. Forty-eight hours two minutes, containing Rath Yatra and the last open day of the year’s longest clear run.
- Monday 5 July, 4:24 am — Mars leaves your second house for your third, twenty-three minutes after the Moon arrives on your sign. Panchang for the day.
- Tuesday 6 July — Shukra asta begins. Venus is combust until 17 September.
- Tuesday 6 July, 6:01 pm — the Sun enters Punarvasu in your twelfth house.

- Sunday 18 July, 9:14 pm — the Full Moon fills your seventh house at 1°36′ of Capricorn, in Uttara Ashadha pada 2. Guru Purnima. Panchang for the day.
- Tuesday 20 July, 5:35 pm — the Sun enters Pushya on your own sign.
- Thursday 22 July, 7:19 pm — Mars enters Hasta in your third house. Saturn clears 3°20′ of Aries in your tenth around the same date.
- Friday 23 July, 1:42 am — Venus crosses onto Karka Rashi, still combust.
- Sunday 25 July, 3:39 am — Mercury enters Punarvasu; Venus reaches Pushya at 6:44 pm.
- Friday 30 July, 6:28 pm — Mercury crosses onto Karka Rashi, the third planet to arrive in a fortnight. Jupiter enters Magha pada 3 the same day.
Week by Week
Thirty-one days, Thursday to Saturday. There are only four Mondays — the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th — which for the sign the Moon rules is one fewer than a Somvar-observing reader would like. The 5th is by far the most important of them, carrying Mercury’s station, Mars’s sign change, Rath Yatra, your Chandra window and the year’s last clear day.
1–7 July
The most consequential week of the month, and it turns on a single Monday. Mercury and Venus are exact in your twelfth house at 2:52 pm on Thursday the 1st. Mercury comes out of combustion on Friday the 2nd. The New Moon hits the bottom of your year at 8:32 am on Sunday the 4th. Then Monday the 5th: Mercury direct at 1:10 am, the Moon onto your sign at 4:01 am, Mars into your third at 4:24 am, Rath Yatra, and the last open day of the 82-day run. The Moon holds Karka Rashi until 4:03 am on Wednesday the 7th, and from Tuesday the 6th Venus is dark.
8–14 July
The Sun is still in your twelfth and the week is genuinely low. Mercury is direct and clear, so this is a good week for finishing the administrative residue of June, and a poor one for anything that needs stamina. Wednesday the 14th then carries four things: Mercury re-enters Ardra at 1:58 am, Devshayani Ekadashi falls and Chaturmas begins, Jupiter reaches Magha pada 2 in your second house, and Venus enters Punarvasu at 10:19 pm. Nothing here is loud and all of it is structural.
15–21 July
The turn of the month and of the year. Karka Sankranti at 5:42 am on Saturday the 17th brings the Sun onto your own sign after sixteen days in the house of loss, and begins the sidereal Dakshinayana. On Sunday the 18th the Full Moon fills your seventh house at 9:14 pm on Guru Purnima, with the Purnima tithi ending at the same instant. The Sun enters Pushya at 5:35 pm on Tuesday the 20th. Self and partner are both lit this week; expect the conversation you have been putting off to happen on its own.
22–28 July
Venus arrives. Mars enters Hasta at 7:19 pm on Thursday the 22nd and Saturn clears 3°20′ of Aries in your tenth house around the same date, which is the point at which the diffuse quality of the career difficulty usually eases. Venus crosses onto your sign at 1:42 am on Friday the 23rd — combust, so it arrives without being able to bless a beginning. Mercury enters Punarvasu on Sunday the 25th and Venus reaches Pushya that evening. A good week for warmth at home, a poor one for buying anything expensive.
29–31 July
Three days that complete the month’s pattern. Mercury crosses onto Karka Rashi at 6:28 pm on Friday the 30th, so your sign ends July holding the Sun, Venus, Mercury and Ketu — four bodies where it began with one. Jupiter also enters Magha pada 3 in your second house on the 30th. Nothing needs to be launched in these three days; the useful thing is to notice how different your own sign feels than it did on the 4th.
Career and Money for Karka Rashi
Career is the hard part and it is hard for a structural reason: Saturn is debilitated in your tenth house and will be for most of 2027. Debilitation in the house of profession means the effort is real and the return is delayed — recognition that does not arrive on schedule, a promotion that is discussed rather than given. Saturn covers one degree sixteen minutes all month and clears the gandanta around the 22nd, which tends to be when the fog lifts slightly. The instruction is patience with documentation, not a change of job. See our career remedies page and, since a debilitated Saturn is what is behind it, the Shani dosh page.
Money has a better shape. Jupiter holds your second house of income for all thirty-one days, running from 0°51′ to 6°54′ of Magha and changing pada on the 14th and the 30th — days rather than minutes, since a pada edge depends on the ayanamsa a calendar chooses and Jupiter cannot defend a minute at a fifth of a degree a day. Jupiter in the second is the best transit for earnings a chart can carry, and it lasts into 2028. Mars is in that house until the 5th, which is a fortnight of pressure on spending that then lifts.
The twelfth house is the counterweight for the first half of the month: the Sun, Mercury and Venus all sitting in the house of outgoings, with a New Moon there on the 4th. Expect July’s first two weeks to cost more than they earn and the second half to reverse it. With Venus combust from the 6th, avoid buying anything decorative and expensive; the vehicle muhurat page for July 2027 shows how little of the month clears the filters.
Home, Family and Partnership
Your fourth house is Libra and empty all month, and its ruler Venus goes combust on the 6th, so the home has no direct transit acting on it — which for a Karka reader, who feels the fourth house more than most, is a quiet relief. Mars leaves your second and enters your third on the 5th, so what gets stirred is siblings, neighbours and short journeys rather than the household itself. Mars in the third is one of its better placements: courage without a target to break.
Partnership is where the month concentrates. Rahu sits in your seventh house all month and the Full Moon of the 18th forms there on Guru Purnima. Rahu in the seventh over a long transit tends to make the other person harder to read; a Full Moon in the same house makes them briefly legible. That night is the month’s best opportunity for an honest conversation and its worst for a decision made in the heat of one. If a marriage is being planned, note that Venus — the planet the classical calendar requires — is combust from the 6th and Chaturmas begins on 14 July, so the 82-day open run ends on 5 July. The marriage muhurat page for July 2027 shows the arithmetic, and our page on delay is for readers this frustrates.
One more thing about the seventh house. Because the Sun returns to your first house on the 17th and the Full Moon lights the seventh on the 18th, the two happen within thirty-nine hours of each other. Self and partner are illuminated on consecutive days, from opposite ends of the same axis. That is the month’s most distinctive feature for a Karka chart, and it is arithmetic rather than interpretation.
Health
The first sixteen days are the low ebb of your year. The Sun in the twelfth house, with a New Moon there on the 4th, is the annual signature for depleted vitality — not illness, but a body running below its own baseline. The 3rd, 4th and 5th are the days to protect. From 5:42 am on the 17th, when the Sun crosses onto your own sign, the reversal is fairly quick and quite noticeable.
Your sixth house of illness is Sagittarius and empty all month, which is good, and its ruler Jupiter sits well in your second. Use the Chandra window for anything that begins: 4:01 am on 5 July to 4:03 am on 7 July, forty-eight hours two minutes, opening twenty-three minutes before Mars changes sign and just under three hours after Mercury turns direct. Because you are Moon-ruled, that window carries more weight for you than for any other sign, and the Mondays — 5, 12, 19 and 26 July — are the days on which a Somvar observance does most.
Remedies for Karka Rashi in July 2027
The month has four defining conditions: the Sun in your twelfth house until 5:42 am on the 17th and on your sign after it, Ketu on the rashi throughout with the Sun approaching but not reaching it, Jupiter in your second house all month, and a debilitated Saturn in your tenth.
- Somvar observance — 5, 12, 19 and 26 July: the Moon rules Karka Rashi, so Monday is your day and there are only four this month. The 5th is the strongest by a wide margin: Mercury turns direct, the Moon reaches your sign, Rath Yatra falls, and it is the year’s last clear day. See strengthening a weak Moon and Monday fasting.
- Ketu observance while the node holds your sign: Ketu is on Karka Rashi in Ashlesha pada 1 for the whole month and the Sun is closing on it. Sesame, a flag or cloth given to a place of worship, and something released rather than acquired. See Ketu remedies and the Rahu–Ketu page.
- Guru worship on the Thursdays — 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 July: Jupiter holds your second house of income all month and Guru Purnima falls on the 18th, when the Full Moon forms in your seventh. Turmeric, chana dal, yellow given to a teacher. See weak-Jupiter remedies and Thursday fasting.
- Shani observance on the Saturdays — 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 July: Saturn is debilitated in your tenth house of career and inside a gandanta until about the 22nd. Sesame oil, black til, a peepal lamp after sundown, and work done without expecting credit. See Shani remedies and Saturday fasting.
- Surya observance from Karka Sankranti — the Sundays of 18 and 25 July: once the Sun is on your own sign, the Sunday arghya has a subject. Water offered at sunrise, wheat or jaggery given. See Surya remedies and Sunday fasting.
- Treat Sunday 4 July as a day of release, not a beginning: a New Moon in the twelfth house at 8:32 am is the lowest point of your year. Light food, early sleep, a debt settled, nothing launched.
- Do the year’s important thing on Monday 5 July: after that, Venus is combust from the 6th and Chaturmas begins on the 14th, and nothing in the rest of the month is classically clear.
In Summary
July 2027 divides at 5:42 am on Saturday 17 July. Before it, the Sun is in your twelfth house with Mercury and Venus, and a New Moon on the 4th marks the lowest point of your year. After it, the Sun is on Karka Rashi and the sidereal Dakshinayana has begun. Venus follows on the 23rd and Mercury on the 30th, so your sign ends the month holding three planets and Ketu where it began with a node alone.
The Full Moon of 9:14 pm on Sunday 18 July fills your seventh house on Guru Purnima, thirty-nine hours after the Sun comes home — the self–partner axis lit from both ends on consecutive days. It sits 17°26′ from Rahu, which makes it a seventh-house Full Moon rather than a Full Moon on the node. And the Sun does not actually reach Ketu in July: that meeting is exact on 4 August at 6:07 am.
The one day to mark is Monday 5 July: Mercury direct at 1:10 am, the Moon onto your sign at 4:01 am, Mars into your third at 4:24 am, Rath Yatra, and the last clear day of an 82-day run. Everything after it is under either the asta or Chaturmas. As always, this is sign-level; which of the nine Cancer padas holds your natal Moon, and where the Moon and Saturn sit in your own chart, decides how much of it reaches you. For more, read June’s reading, what Karka Rashi settles and what the pada decides, and our page on Shani dosh.
The Sun returns to your sign at 5:42 am on 17 July 2027
Whether Karka Sankranti lifts you or exposes a debilitated Saturn in the tenth depends on your pada and your running dasha — a sign-level reading cannot tell you which.
