About Navgraha Puja

Navgraha Puja is a powerful Vedic ritual that worships all nine celestial bodies (planets) that influence human life according to Vedic astrology. Each planet governs specific aspects of life including career, health, relationships, and finances. This comprehensive puja appeases all nine planets simultaneously, creating a balanced cosmic influence and mitigating the negative effects of any afflicted planets in your birth chart.

Benefits of Navgraha Puja

Balances planetary influences in horoscope

Reduces effects of doshas like Mangal, Shani, Rahu

Improves career and financial prospects

Enhances health and mental peace

Protects from planetary malefic periods

Puja Process

Sankalpa, individual puja for each planet, Navgraha mantra jaap, Havan, and Aarti

Best Time to Perform

During planetary transits, eclipses, or as recommended by astrologer

Why that vara

Navgraha shanti is the one puja with no single vara, because it addresses all nine grahas and each owns a different day — and Rahu and Ketu own none at all, having no hora. It is instead timed to the graha that is actually afflicted in the chart, or to an eclipse, when the nodes are by definition active.

Not begun in Rahu Kaal, and a full muhurat for your date and city has to satisfy the nakshatra, yoga and karana too.

Items Required (Samagri)

Nine types of grains

Navadhanya — one grain per graha, wheat for the Sun, rice for the Moon, toor for Mars, moong for Mercury, chana for Jupiter, white beans for Venus, sesame for Saturn, urad for Rahu and horse gram for Ketu. They are the substance of the graha daan afterwards.

Nine colored cloths

Each graha has its colour and its direction, and the nine cloths are laid out in the navagraha mandala rather than in a row — the Sun at the centre, the rest around it in fixed positions.

Nine types of flowers

Offered graha by graha in sequence rather than together, because the puja is nine short pujas and not one long one.

Navgraha yantra

The nine-chambered plate that holds the mandala. It is what the mantras are directed at when the grahas are not represented by murtis.

Ghee and sesame oil

Ghee for the benefics and sesame oil for Saturn and the nodes. The lamp fuel changes with the graha, which is the most visible instance of the rule that the offering matches the planet.

Samagri is supplied with the booking. Substitutions are normal and regional; the item a rite is defined by is the one that is never substituted.

Worth being clear about

Navgraha shanti is prescribed for a specific affliction found in a specific chart. A puja for all nine grahas performed without knowing which of them is actually weak is a reasonable act of devotion but it is not a remedy for anything in particular.
