Rahu Ketu Uchch Neech Rashi: Exalted and Debilitated Signs

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

Rahu ki Uchch Rashi Kaun Si Hai? (राहु की उच्च राशि)

Two answers are in circulation, and the site’s planet table keeps both. By the most common reckoning Rahu’s uchch rashi is Taurus (Vrishabha, वृषभ); in the other reckoning it is Gemini (Mithuna, मिथुन). So both forms of the question, Taurus or Gemini, get the same reply: yes by one reckoning, no by the other. The sign table adds a note of its own under Gemini, that “the authorities that move Rahu's exaltation off Taurus put it here, and they do not agree with each other”. This page does not choose between them. It lays the two side by side and counts what follows from each.

Here are the rows for both nodes, printed exactly as the planet table holds them:

RowRahuKetu
Nature (short)Malefic (shadow)Malefic (shadow)
Own signNone — Rahu co-lords Aquarius and is said to act as its dispositorNone — Ketu co-lords Scorpio and is said to act as its dispositor
Uchch (exalted)Taurus by the most common reckoning; Gemini in othersScorpio by the most common reckoning; Sagittarius in others
Neech (debilitated)Scorpio by the same reckoning; Sagittarius in othersTaurus by the same reckoning; Gemini in others
MoolatrikonaNot assigned in the standard systemNot assigned in the standard system
Friends (mitra)Venus, Saturn, MercuryMars, Venus, Saturn
Enemies (shatru)Sun, Moon, MarsSun, Moon
Neutral (sam)JupiterMercury, Jupiter

The wording carries the dispute. “By the same reckoning” ties each neech sign to the uchch sign before it, so the rows hold two complete schemes, not one scheme with spare answers. Writing them as “Taurus/Gemini” would blend the two into a single list that neither side holds.

Rahu Ketu ki Uchch Neech Rashi: The Two Reckonings Side by Side

ReckoningRahu uchchRahu neechKetu uchchKetu neech
Most common reckoningTaurus (वृषभ)Scorpio (वृश्चिक)Scorpio (वृश्चिक)Taurus (वृषभ)
The other reckoningGemini (मिथुन)Sagittarius (धनु)Sagittarius (धनु)Gemini (मिथुन)

Three things in this table are arithmetic rather than doctrine. First, under each reckoning Rahu’s uchch sign is Ketu’s neech sign, and Ketu’s uchch sign is Rahu’s neech sign. Second, every pair in it is a 7th-from axis: Taurus and Scorpio face each other across the zodiac, and so do Gemini and Sagittarius. Third, because Ketu is always 7th from Rahu, the two nodes can never be in different states under one reckoning. Run Rahu through all twelve signs with Ketu opposite, and wherever one node is uchch by a given reckoning, so is the other; the same holds for neech.

Each reckoning marks two positions of the Rahu-Ketu axis out of twelve, and the two share none, so between them they touch four signs: Taurus, Scorpio, Gemini and Sagittarius. The most common reckoning’s pair is also the Moon’s: the planet table gives the Moon’s uchch sign as Taurus and its neech sign as Scorpio, so Rahu’s uchch rashi matches the Moon’s and Ketu’s matches the Moon’s neech. The other reckoning’s pair, Gemini and Sagittarius, falls on two of the four signs (Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius) where none of the seven classical grahas is uchch or neech. Those are facts about how the tables line up. The page attaches no meaning to either.

The uchcha grah page keeps the nodes out of its dignity table for exactly this reason: a single column would have to pick one reckoning.

Rahu ki Rashi Konsi Hai? Co-Lordship, Not Ownership

Neither node owns a sign in the planet table. Rahu’s nature row calls it “Shadow malefic — a chhaya graha with no body, no light and no sign of its own”, and both own-sign rows open with “None”. What they record instead is a co-lordship: Rahu with Aquarius (कुम्भ), Ketu with Scorpio (वृश्चिक). The sign table’s lord for Aquarius is Saturn and for Scorpio it is Mars, and neither node displaces them. Neither node has a moolatrikona either; both rows read “Not assigned in the standard system”.

So “ketu lord of which rashi” has a narrow answer: in the convention the table records, Ketu co-lords Scorpio, and that is all. Scorpio is also Ketu’s uchch sign by the most common reckoning, so for Ketu the co-lorded sign and the commoner uchch sign coincide. Rahu’s Aquarius is neither its uchch nor its neech sign in either reckoning.

On this site the co-lordship stays a note. Every lord table the calculators build reads the sign table’s single ruler, so in a house-lord list Aquarius goes to Saturn and Scorpio to Mars, and Rahu and Ketu lord no bhava. The dispositor page works through what changes when a reader does count the co-lords. One more source of confusion: the sign table also lists Uranus for Aquarius and Pluto for Scorpio as Western co-rulers. That is a separate Western convention about planets outside the nine grahas, and it has nothing to do with the nodes.

Rahu ki Mitra Rashi and Shatru Rashi: A Derived Reading

The planet table gives each node friends, enemies and neutrals among the grahas. It gives no list of friendly or hostile signs. A sign list can be derived by asking which row holds each sign’s lord, and the table below does that. Treat it as a reading of the friendship rows, not as a separate classical list; it is only as firm as the rows it starts from.

SignLordLord in Rahu’s rowsRahu’s dignity rowsLord in Ketu’s rowsKetu’s dignity rows
Aries (मेष)Marsenemy—friend—
Taurus (वृषभ)Venusfrienduchch (most common reckoning)friendneech (most common reckoning)

Sagittarius (धनु)Jupiterneutralneech (other reckoning)neutraluchch (other reckoning)
Capricorn (मकर)Saturnfriend—friend—
Aquarius (कुम्भ)Saturnfriendco-lorded signfriend—
Pisces (मीन)Jupiterneutral—neutral—

Counted, Rahu’s rows put the lords of six signs among its friends (Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius), four among its enemies (Aries, Cancer, Leo and Scorpio) and two among the neutrals. Ketu’s give six friendly (Aries, Taurus, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn and Aquarius), two hostile and four neutral. Every sign’s lord appears in exactly one of each node’s three rows, so nothing is left unclassed.

The derived list does not line up with the dignity rows, which is a good reason not to treat it as a stand-in for them. Taurus, Rahu’s uchch sign by the most common reckoning, has a friend (Venus) for its lord, and Scorpio, its neech sign by the same reckoning, has an enemy (Mars). That pattern looks tidy until Ketu is checked: Taurus is Ketu’s neech sign by the commoner reckoning, and its lord Venus sits in Ketu’s friends row.

Where Rahu and Ketu Actually Are, 2026-2028

The ingress table covers 2026, 2027 and 2028. Over those three years the nodes change sign together, on the same day, in three stretches. Their rows are mean-node values, a formula rather than an observed position, so each date here is soft by about a day.

DatesRahu inRahu’s rows sayKetu inKetu’s rows say

From 24 June 2028 to the end of 2028 and beyondSagittariusneech (other reckoning)Geminineech (other reckoning)

Read across, Rahu is in Aquarius, the sign it co-lords, until 5 December 2026. The long Capricorn-Cancer stretch that follows puts neither node on any sign its rows name. From 24 June 2028, with Rahu in Sagittarius and Ketu in Gemini, both nodes stand on their neech signs in the other reckoning, and on no listed sign by the most common reckoning: the two schemes give different answers about the same months, as the side-by-side table predicts. Neither node reaches an uchch sign under either reckoning in these three years, and Ketu does not reach Scorpio. The Rahu-Ketu transit page counts the same stretches from each Moon sign, and the planet pages for Rahu and Ketu carry the rest of each row.

Neecha Bhanga and the Nodes

The cancellation rules on the neecha bhanga page are written for the seven grahas from the Sun to Saturn. They turn on the lord of the neech sign, the lord of the graha’s uchch sign and similar tests, each of which needs one settled neech sign to start from. A node has two, one per reckoning, so this page does not run those rules for Rahu or Ketu and does not report any node as cancelled or uncancelled. The same caution governs aspects: the Rahu-Ketu drishti page sets out the parallel dispute over whether the nodes aspect at all. How a graha with no body differs from a planet in the astronomer’s sense is the subject of grah aur upgrah mein antar.

What This Page Does Not Do

Every table above is a read-off or a count. The page gives no reading of what an uchch or neech Rahu or Ketu means for a person, no remedy and no gemstone, and it does not place the nodes in anyone’s birth chart. The site’s chart tools do not do that either: the free kundli tool gives the Moon sign, nakshatra, Sun sign, lagna, the running dasha and the sign and house of Mars, and no node. Two reckonings stay two reckonings however the rows are counted. In Hindi: राहु की उच्च राशि वृषभ या मिथुन: राहु केतु की उच्च नीच राशि.

Sign-Level Dignity on Your Own Chart

The Janam Kundli report gives sign, degree, nakshatra, house and sign-level dignity for the seven grahas from the Sun to Saturn, from your birth details. It does not compute Rahu and Ketu for a birth, so it gives no uchch or neech reading for them.
