Exalted Planets (Uchcha Graha) in the 2026-28 Sky
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
Uchcha, in English: the Sign of Exaltation (उच्च ग्रह)
An uchcha graha is a planet in its sign of exaltation. Parashari Jyotish assigns each of the seven classical grahas one such sign, and the opposite sign is its neecha, or debilitation. The texts also name a degree of deepest exaltation inside the sign; this page works with the sign alone. Everything below is read off the site’s planet and sign tables or measured on its 2026–2028 ingress table, and none of it says what an exalted graha does for anyone.
Exalted and Debilitated Planets, Sign by Sign
| Graha | Uchcha (exaltation) sign | Moolatrikona sign | Own signs | Opposite: debilitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun (Surya) | Aries (मेष) | Leo | Leo | Libra |
| Moon (Chandra) | Taurus (वृषभ) | Taurus | Cancer | Scorpio |
| Mars (Mangal) | Capricorn (मकर) | Aries | Aries and Scorpio | Cancer |
| Mercury (Budh) | Virgo (कन्या) | Virgo | Gemini and Virgo | Pisces |
| Jupiter (Guru) | Cancer (कर्क) | Sagittarius | Sagittarius and Pisces | Capricorn |
| Venus (Shukra) | Pisces (मीन) | Libra | Taurus and Libra | Virgo |
| Saturn (Shani) | Libra (तुला) | Aquarius | Capricorn and Aquarius | Aries |
Counting from each exaltation sign to the debilitation sign in the last column gives the 7th sign every time: the two are exact opposites for all seven grahas. Mercury is the one graha exalted in a sign it also owns, Virgo. The moolatrikona, a third dignity that the planet table marks out as a stretch of degrees, lies in the exaltation sign for the Moon and Mercury (Taurus and Virgo) and in an own sign for the other five; the Moon’s Taurus is not a sign the Moon rules, since its only own sign is Cancer. The degree ranges are left out here, as the exaltation degrees are.
Fourteen dignities land on only eight signs, because several grahas share an axis in opposite directions. That leaves Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius, where none of the seven is exalted or debilitated. Rahu and Ketu are not in the table. The planet table gives Rahu’s exaltation as Taurus by the most common reckoning and Gemini in others, and Ketu’s as Scorpio by the most common reckoning and Sagittarius in others, so listing either one as settled would decide a question the authorities have not.
Every Spell in an Exaltation Sign, 2026–2028
The ingress table puts five of the six grahas other than the Moon in their exaltation signs at some point between 2026 and 2028. The exception is Saturn, which spends the three years in Pisces and Aries and never reaches Libra. Jupiter’s two stays in Cancer are the longest: 2 June 2026 to 31 October 2026, then, after a spell in Leo, a retrograde return from 25 January 2027 to 26 June 2027. Mars is in Capricorn from 16 January 2026 to 23 February 2026 and again from 27 December 2027 to 3 February 2028. The Sun is in Aries from mid-April to mid-May every year; these are the ingress days in the table, not the date of any Sankranti observance. All dates are days, with no clock time.
| Exalted graha | From | Until | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mars in Capricorn | 16 January 2026 | 23 February 2026 | 38 |
| Venus in Pisces | 2 March 2026 | 26 March 2026 | 24 |
| Sun in Aries | 14 April 2026 | 15 May 2026 | 31 |
| Jupiter in Cancer | 2 June 2026 | 31 October 2026 | 151 |
| Mercury in Virgo | 7 September 2026 | 26 September 2026 | 19 |
| Jupiter in Cancer (entered moving backwards) | 25 January 2027 | 26 June 2027 | 152 |
| Sun in Aries | 14 April 2027 | 15 May 2027 | 31 |
| Venus in Pisces | 15 April 2027 | 10 May 2027 | 25 |
| Mercury in Virgo | 31 August 2027 | 21 September 2027 | 21 |
| Mercury in Virgo (entered moving backwards) | 21 October 2027 | 5 November 2027 | 15 |
| Mars in Capricorn | 27 December 2027 | 3 February 2028 | 38 |
| Venus in Pisces | 2 February 2028 | 28 February 2028 | 26 |
| Sun in Aries | 13 April 2028 | 14 May 2028 | 31 |
| Mercury in Virgo | 23 August 2028 | 30 October 2028 | 68 |
The Moon, exalted in Taurus, is summarised rather than listed: it enters that sign 13 times in 2026 and 13 times in 2027, for 7.7% and 7.6% of the clock time of those years.
Exalted Planets in 2026 and 2027: How Many at Once
Counting all seven grahas, the Moon included, the table below gives the share of each calendar year spent with none, one, two, or three or more of them in their exaltation signs. These are fractions of clock time, a property of the sky, and not a count of people born in either year. 2028 is not shown because the Moon table’s last row has no exit.
| Grahas in exaltation | Share of 2026 | Share of 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| None | 30.3% | 42.5% |
| One | 59.4% | 46.5% |
| Two | 10.3% | 4.2% |
| Three or more | 0% | 6.8% |
In 2026 one exalted graha is the usual state, and for most of that time the one is Jupiter in Cancer; the year never has three exalted together. 2027 spends more of its time with none, since Jupiter leaves Cancer in June, but it also holds the one stretch of the window with three: the Sun, Jupiter and Venus together from 15 April 2027 to 10 May 2027. For about two days inside it, from 7 May 2027, the Moon in Taurus makes four.
Most stretches with two exalted grahas are short, because they are the Moon crossing Taurus while one slower graha is exalted; all but one last about two days, and that one is shorter. Only two last longer. The 2026 one runs from 7 September 2026 to 26 September 2026, Mercury in Virgo while Jupiter is in Cancer. The longest in either year runs from 14 April 2027 to 15 May 2027, 31 days that open with the Sun entering Aries while Jupiter is still in Cancer and close when the Sun leaves.
A Transit Count Is Not a Kundli Reading
The figures above describe the sky. In a birth chart a graha’s sign is fixed at the moment of birth, and what astrologers make of an exaltation there depends on the house it falls in, the houses it rules for that lagna and the other grahas around it. Exaltation and own sign are the two dignities that, placed in a kendra, make up the Pancha Mahapurusha yogas; Jupiter’s version, with the Cancer months above, is on Hamsa yoga, and Jupiter’s full 2027 movements are on Jupiter transit 2027. The other side of the axis, with the conditions astrologers cite for cancelling a debilitation, is Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga. The wider list of yogas is on kundli yogas and how common they are. To see which of your own grahas sit in an exaltation sign, the free kundli lists each graha’s sign. In Hindi: उच्च ग्रह और नीच ग्रह: 2026–2028 के आकाश में.
Which of Your Grahas Are in Uchcha
The Janam Kundli report calculates your lagna and the sign and house of each graha from your birth details, so an exaltation or a debilitation in the chart is visible at a glance. The report does not rank the placements or forecast from them.
