Veshi, Vasi and Ubhayachari Yoga: Grahas Beside the Sun
Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji
The Solar Counterpart of the Moon Yogas
The Parashari scheme applies the same flank test to the Sun that it applies to the Moon. Count the Sun’s sign as the 1st and check the 2nd and the 12th for Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn. Here it is the Moon that drops out of the count, along with Rahu and Ketu.
- Veshi, also written Vesi: a graha in the 2nd from the Sun and none in the 12th.
- Vasi, also written Vosi: a graha in the 12th from the Sun and none in the 2nd.
- Ubhayachari, “moving on both sides”: grahas in both.
With nothing on either side the Sun has no named yoga of this family. The Moon-centred set is on the Sunapha, Anapha and Durudhara page, with its empty case on the Kemadruma page. The two families share a definition shape but not a sky: the Sun moves about one sign a month, so its neighbours change slowly, and two of the five grahas are never far from it.
The Measured Shares, 2026 and 2027
| Around the Sun | 2026 | 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Veshi | 19.1% | 28.8% |
| Vasi | 23.8% | 19.8% |
| Ubhayachari | 41.1% | 40.6% |
| Neither | 16.0% | 10.8% |
These are fractions of the clock hours in each calendar year, worked out from the ingress table; they describe the sky and say nothing about how many people are born with any of the three. Ubhayachari is the largest box in both years, at a little over two-fifths, and the Sun has at least one of the five beside it for 84.0% of 2026 and 89.2% of 2027. Vasi leads Veshi in 2026 and the order flips in 2027, and part of that is Mars: in 2026 it is never in the 2nd from the Sun and is in the 12th for 35.4% of the year, while in 2027 the pattern reverses, with Mars ahead of the Sun for 24.7% and never behind it.
Mercury and Venus Close to the Sun
Measured in signs, Mercury in these two years is only ever in the Sun’s own sign or one of the two beside it; it is never two signs away. It shares the Sun’s sign 54.7% of the time in 2026 and 49.4% in 2027, and in those hours it cannot form any of these yogas; for the rest of the time it is in the 2nd or the 12th. Venus ranges a little wider, reaching the 3rd and 11th signs from the Sun, but it too is in the Sun’s sign or a flanking one for most of each year (80.3% of 2026, 90.2% of 2027).
| Graha | 2nd from Sun, 2026 | 12th from Sun, 2026 | 2nd from Sun, 2027 | 12th from Sun, 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mars | 0.0% | 35.4% | 24.7% | 0.0% |
| Mercury | 19.8% | 25.4% | 27.9% | 22.7% |
| Jupiter | 13.5% | 8.5% | 11.4% | 8.4% |
| Venus | 47.0% | 9.4% | 22.8% | 36.4% |
| Saturn | 8.2% | 8.5% | 8.2% | 11.9% |
That raises a fair question for anyone reading the yoga: how much of it rests on Mercury and Venus alone? Counting the hours in which the Sun has a flanking graha and every flanking graha is Mercury or Venus, the answer is 32.2% of 2026 and 30.2% of 2027, which is 38% and 34% of the time the yoga holds at all. The remaining 51.8% and 59.0% of each year has Mars, Jupiter or Saturn on at least one side. Whether that should change how the yoga is read is a question for the astrologer applying it; the page only reports the split.
Sun Sign by Sun Sign, 2026 and 2027
Because the Sun’s sign is fixed by the date, a birth date alone places a chart in one of the rows below. The day counts are rounded, so a row may not add exactly to the spell’s length; the last column lists every taragraha that is in the 2nd or 12th from the Sun at some point in the spell.
| Sun in | Dates | Veshi days | Vasi days | Ubhayachari days | Neither days | Flanking grahas |

| Sagittarius | 16 December 2027 onwards | 15 | 0 | 0 | 0 | Mars, Venus |
In 18 of the 25 rows the Sun is never without a neighbour. In 7 rows the only grahas ever beside it are Mercury and Venus: the rows dated 1 January 2026 (Sagittarius), 17 September 2026 (Virgo), 17 October 2026 (Libra), 16 November 2026 (Scorpio), 16 December 2026 (Sagittarius), 14 January 2027 (Capricorn) and 15 March 2027 (Pisces). A Sun-sign lookup is on the Sun sign calculator, and the sign-by-sign dates behind these rows are on the Sun transit 2027 and Mercury transit 2027 pages.
What the Tradition Associates With It
In the scheme the site’s planet table follows, the Sun is the atmakaraka of the chart and its karakas include the soul (atma), and astrologers who use these yogas read them as a description of the Sun’s surroundings in the chart. The classical texts attach readings to each of the three; this page repeats none of them and draws no outcome. The closest relative among the yogas already on the site is Budhaditya, which is the case this page sets aside: Mercury in the Sun’s own sign. The main classical yogas are compared by how often they hold on the kundli yoga list. In Hindi: वेशी, वासी और उभयचरी योग.
The Sun’s Neighbours in Your Own Chart
The Janam Kundli report gives the sign of the Sun and of each graha on either side of it, along with your lagna and your dasha periods with dates. Those are the inputs for a Veshi, Vasi or Ubhayachari check. The report does not grade the yoga or forecast from it.
