Adhi and Lagnadhi Yoga: Benefics in 6th, 7th, 8th

Published 2026-10-26 | Live Pandit Ji

The Rule Behind अधि योग

Adhi yoga is counted from the Moon. Call the Moon’s sign the 1st and look at the three signs that face it: the 6th, 7th and 8th. When Mercury, Jupiter and Venus all stand inside that block, in any order and with any two of them sharing a sign, the Parashari books name the arrangement Adhi, and writers who want to separate it from the lagna version call it Chandra Adhi. Counting the same three houses from the ascendant instead gives Lagnadhi yoga, which some modern authors also list under the raja yogas as Lagnadhi raj yoga.

The three grahas are the ones the classical lists call the natural benefics, and here the site’s planet table needs a footnote. Its short label for Jupiter and Venus is “Benefic”, but for Mercury it reads “Neutral — takes on its company”, the neutral graha whose quality follows the grahas it sits with. The Adhi lists count Mercury as one of the three anyway, and this page follows them.

The houses themselves are a mixed group. In the site’s house table the 6th and 8th are dusthanas, the difficult houses, while the 7th is a kendra. Two of the three Adhi houses are therefore the same dusthanas that the Vipreet raja yogas are built on, though there the test is about house lords, and here it is about where three grahas physically stand.

Full, Partial and Strict Forms, 2026 and 2027

Commentators on Parashara separate the full yoga, with all three benefics in place, from partial forms in which only two, or only one, of them occupies the block. Some authors also ask that no malefic share those houses; the page tests that stricter reading with the five grahas the planet table marks as malefic, the Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Each row is computed by cutting the ingress table at every sign change of the bodies involved. The figures are shares of clock time in the sky, not of people or of births.

Condition, counted from the Moon20262027

At least two of them there25.3%22.2%
At least one of them there49.3%49.5%
All three there, and no malefic in those houses0.0%0.0%

The full form holds for under a fourteenth of each year, somewhat less in 2027 than in 2026. Loosen it to two of the three and the share climbs to around a quarter; a single benefic in the block is close to an even chance. The strict row reads zero for both years, and the reason sits in the next section.

Why the Sun Ends Up Facing the Moon

Across 2026 to 2028 the ingress table never puts Mercury more than one sign away from the Sun’s sign, on either side, and never puts Venus more than two. Both of the inner benefics travel with the Sun. So when they occupy the 6th, 7th and 8th from the Moon, the Sun has to be close by, which leaves the Moon on the far side of it.

The measurement bears that out. Over the 44.2 days of full Adhi in 2026 and 2027, the Sun is in the 7th from the Moon for 25.8 days, in the 6th for 11.3, in the 5th for 4.9 and in the 9th for 2.2. No other house turns up. A Moon roughly opposite the Sun is, as plain arithmetic, the side of the lunar month near Purnima; this is a property of the definition, not a reason to time anything by it. Jupiter has to join the same block, which is why the full form appears only while Jupiter is within three signs of the Sun.

The same fact empties the strict variant. The Sun is a malefic in the planet table (“Mild malefic”), and it is in the 6th or 7th for most of the full-Adhi days; on the days when it is outside the block, Ketu is inside it, at times with Mars. The nearest miss is 4.9 days on which Ketu alone stands in one of the three houses. Ketu’s row is a mean-node position and soft by about a day, so the honest reading of the zero is that the stricter form finds almost no room in these two years, not that a precise boundary has been measured.

Month by Month, 2026 and 2027

Because the Moon has to come round to the far side of a grouped Sun, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter, full Adhi time arrives in short runs, 11 of them across the two years, none longer than 8 days. The busiest month is June 2026 at 25.8%; in 2027 the peak is August, at 24.1%. Seven months of 2026 and seven of 2027 have no full-Adhi time at all.

Lagnadhi Yoga Kya Hai: The Same Test From the Lagna

Lagnadhi yoga keeps the rule and moves the starting point to the ascendant. That needs a birth time, because the rising sign changes every couple of hours, so no single share describes it. What can be measured is a share for each lagna in turn: hold the lagna fixed, and ask for what part of the year the three benefics sit in its 6th, 7th and 8th. The figure is how much of the year the planets allow it; a chart with that lagna, cast at any moment in that time, has the arrangement. Since the Moon is not involved, the table can run through 2028.

Capricorn17.5%17.4%0.0%
Aquarius11.7%14.5%16.2%

The highest row is Capricorn in 2026 at 17.5%, Pisces in 2027 at 19.9% and Aquarius in 2028 at 16.2%. Only Aquarius and Pisces have some Lagnadhi time in all three years, while Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra have none in any of them. Jupiter explains the gap. Over these three years it moves only through Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra, and those signs fall in the 6th, 7th and 8th only for Aries, Taurus, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces lagnas. Taurus enters the table just at the end of 2028, after Jupiter’s move into Libra on 26 December 2028, which is why its 2028 cell is a sliver.

Your rising sign comes from the ascendant calculator, and the Moon sign calculator gives the starting point for the Chandra Adhi count.

What the Name Means, and What This Page Leaves Out

“Adhi” carries the sense of chief or over-lord, and the classical texts that describe the yoga attach it to rank and command. This page reports the name and the arithmetic, and draws no outcome from the full, partial or strict form. With a single benefic in the block close to half the time and two of them around a quarter, the partial forms in particular separate very little on their own; an astrologer reading the yoga looks at the whole chart, its dashas and the strength rules they follow.

Other yogas counted from the Moon are worked through the same way on the Gajakesari yoga page, with Jupiter in a kendra, and the Kemadruma yoga page, with the Moon’s flanks empty. All of them are compared on the list of kundli yogas and how common they are. In Hindi: अधि और लग्नाधि योग: छठे, सातवें और आठवें भाव में शुभ ग्रह.

The Janam Kundli report lists your Moon sign, your lagna and the sign of every graha, plus your dasha periods with dates, so both the Chandra Adhi and the Lagnadhi count can be made from it. The report does not grade the yoga or forecast from it.
