Yearly Reading

Gemini for the year ahead

मिथुन · Mithuna · Lord Mercury

Sidereal Jun 15 – Jul 16·Tropical May 21 – Jun 20

2026

The year ahead

Love & Relationships

Romance follows a change in circumstance rather than preceding it. The move, the job, the city comes first.

Career & Work

The year rewards specialisation over breadth. The thing you are unusually good at is worth becoming known for.

Health

Preventive rather than reactive. The screenings and check-ups postponed for years are worth clearing in this one.

Finance

One financial decision this year is materially larger than the others. Identify which before making it rather than after.

These are general yearly frames for the sign. What this page states precisely — Jupiter's and Saturn's cycle lengths, which signs put Saturn into your Sade Sati window, the house each transit falls in from your rashi — is arithmetic and does not change with the year. Timing any of it against your own chart needs your birth details.

The slow grahas

What actually moves on a yearly scale

about one year

Full circuit 11.86 years

about 2½ years

Full circuit 29.46 years

about 18 months

18.6 years (retrograde), always opposed

A yearly reading is not a daily reading stretched out. Each timeframe belongs to whichever graha changes sign at that speed, and at a year's scale that means Jupiter first, then Saturn. Jupiter crosses a rashi in about a year and the whole zodiac in 11.86 years — which is why Guru's transit is the first thing a varshik phal names, and why a twelve-year rhythm keeps surfacing in Hindu life, from the Kumbh Mela onward. Saturn is slower still at about 2½ years a sign, so it does not describe a year so much as set the weather across two or three of them.

Everything below is counted from Mithuna, forward and inclusive, so Mithuna itself is the 1st house. That counting is the entire mechanism of gochara, and it is what makes the same Jupiter transit a strong year for one rashi and an inconsequential one for another. Nothing here needs a birth time; it needs only the Moon sign.

Guru gochara

Jupiter's twelve-year cycle from Mithuna

Jupiter spends about a year in each sign, so these twelve rows are twelve consecutive years — the full Guru cycle as Gemini experiences it, after which it repeats. The verdict column is the classical gochara-phala reading: Jupiter is auspicious in the 2nd, the 5th, the 7th, the 9th, the 11th from the Moon and mixed elsewhere. A benefic in an awkward house is still awkward, which is why seven of these twelve rows are not marked favourable.

Shani · Sade Sati

The three signs that put Mithuna into Sade Sati

Sade Sati is not a date, it is a position: Saturn transiting the 12th, 1st and 2nd houses from the natal Moon. At about 2½ years per sign, three signs take roughly seven and a half years — sade sati, literally seven and a half. For Mithuna the three signs are fixed by arithmetic and never change, so this is checkable rather than something you have to take on trust.

First phase
12th house
Vrishabha · about 2½ years

Saturn enters Taurus, the 12th from Mithuna — the bhava of expenses and losses, foreign residence, spiritual liberation. Expenses rise, sleep is disturbed and familiar ground gives way; this is the phase where things start to feel heavier without an obvious cause.

Second phase
1st house
Mithuna · about 2½ years

Saturn crosses Gemini itself, the bhava of personal identity, physical appearance, vitality and health. The peak of the seven and a half years — health, mood and self-image take the strain, and decisions made here are the ones that need the most patience.

Third phase
2nd house
Karka · about 2½ years

Saturn moves into Cancer, the 2nd from Mithuna — savings and wealth, family of origin, speech and voice. The pressure moves off the body and onto the household and cash flow, and the intensity is already receding by the end of it.

Since Saturn's full circuit is 29.46 years, Sade Sati arrives about once every three decades — most people meet it two or three times in a lifetime, and the first one usually lands in the twenties. It is read from the Moon sign, which is the single most common error made about it: read from a Sun sign the answer is confidently wrong by two or three houses.

It is also worth saying plainly that Sade Sati is not a sentence. The classical reading is a period of load, consequence and slow correction — Saturn is karma-karaka, the significator of consequence, not a malefic in the sense of an accident waiting to happen. What it tends to remove are the arrangements that were already unsustainable. Traditional support is Shani remedies rather than avoidance: Hanuman Chalisa on Saturdays, and the practical version, which is not taking on obligations you would struggle to honour through a lean stretch.

Shani gochara

Saturn's other positions from Mithuna

Favourable · 3rd, 6th, 11th

The Upachaya houses of growth, where a malefic gains strength instead of causing damage. Saturn here rewards effort, endurance and unglamorous work — the 11th especially, for gains that arrive slowly and then stay.

Difficult · 4th and 8th

Saturn in the 4th from the Moon — Virgo — is Ardha Ashtama Shani or Kantaka Shani, affecting home and peace of mind. Saturn in the 8th, Capricorn, is Ashtama Shani, the transit classically ranked alongside Sade Sati for difficulty. Each runs about 2½ years.

Rahu and Ketu are read as a single axis rather than two placements, because they sit exactly six signs apart and always will — they are the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic, so they are opposite by definition. Both move backwards through the zodiac at about 18 months per sign. When Rahu is in Leo, the 3rd from Mithuna, Ketu is necessarily in Aquarius, the 9th, and the pair is judged together.

Questions

Gemini yearly horoscope — common questions

When is Sade Sati for Gemini?+

Sade Sati runs whenever Saturn is transiting Taurus, Gemini or Cancer — the 12th, 1st and 2nd houses counted from Mithuna. Saturn takes about 2½ years per sign, so the whole passage lasts roughly seven and a half years, which is what the name means: sade sati, seven and a half. Because Saturn's full circuit is 29.46 years, it comes round about once every three decades, so most people meet it two or three times in a life. It is read from the natal Moon sign, not the Sun sign, and it is not a verdict of misfortune — the classical reading is a period of load and consequence, in which things that were unsustainable stop being sustained.

Why is a yearly horoscope about Jupiter and Saturn?+

Because those are the grahas whose sign changes on a yearly scale. A graha is only useful for a timeframe it actually moves across, and Jupiter is the one whose sign change lines up with a year — twelve signs in 11.86 years works out at very nearly one a year, which is why Guru's position is the first thing a varshik reading names and why a twelve-year rhythm recurs throughout Hindu tradition. Saturn is slower again at about 2½ years a sign, too slow to describe a single year but exactly right for the background tone across two or three of them. The quick grahas are the wrong instrument here: the Moon has crossed all twelve signs before a month is out, so it cannot say anything about a year that is not already stale.

Which Jupiter transits are good for Gemini?+

Counted from Mithuna, Jupiter is classically auspicious in the 2nd, the 5th, the 7th, the 9th, the 11th houses — that is, when Jupiter is transiting Cancer, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius, Aries. The strongest of those are the 11th for gain and the 9th for fortune and guidance. Jupiter in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th from the Moon is read as mixed to difficult, which surprises people who expect Jupiter to be uniformly benefic. It is not — a benefic in an awkward house is still awkward, and the same Jupiter transit is a good year for one rashi and a flat one for another. That is the whole point of counting from your own sign.

What is Ashtama Shani, and when does Gemini get it?+

Ashtama Shani is Saturn in the 8th house from the natal Moon — for Mithuna that is Saturn transiting Capricorn, and it lasts about 2½ years. The 8th is a dusthana concerned with longevity and sudden change, so Saturn there is traditionally treated as one of the harder transits, alongside Sade Sati itself. Ardha Ashtama Shani, also called Kantaka Shani, is Saturn in the 4th — Virgo for this rashi — and affects home and peace of mind. The favourable Saturn positions are the 3rd, 6th, 11th: Leo, Scorpio, Aries, where a malefic gains strength rather than causing damage.

Do Rahu and Ketu matter in a yearly reading?+

Yes, and on roughly the same timescale as Saturn. The nodes take about 18 months per sign and 18.6 years (retrograde) for a full circuit, and they move backwards through the zodiac rather than forwards. They are also always exactly opposite each other, six signs apart, so they are read as an axis rather than as two independent placements: if Rahu is in the 3rd from Mithuna then Ketu is in the 9th, and the pair is read together. Rahu is favourable in the 3rd, 6th and 11th — the same Upachaya houses that suit Saturn — and difficult in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th and 12th.

Should I read this from my Sun sign or my Moon sign?+

Your Moon sign. Gochara — transit reading, which is everything on this page — is counted from the Chandra rashi in Vedic astrology, and Sade Sati in particular is defined from the Moon. Reading it from a Sun sign will typically put the transit two or three houses out and give you the wrong answer with full confidence. If you only know the sign that matches your birth date, that is a tropical Sun sign, and on the sidereal zodiac Jyotish uses it is frequently a different sign again, since the two zodiacs have drifted about 24 degrees apart. A free Kundli gives you the Moon sign to read from.
