Mercury in Scorpio 2026: Budh Gochar Vrishchik Rashi Dates

When Budh Enters Vrishchik (बुध का वृश्चिक राशि में प्रवेश)

Mercury crosses out of Libra and into Scorpio at 17:24 IST on 2 December 2026. It goes on into Sagittarius at 07:36 IST on 22 December 2026, so the stay in Scorpio is 20 days. Both crossings are taken moving forwards, no Mercury station falls between them, and the next row the ingress table holds for Mercury after Sagittarius is another forward entry, into Capricorn on 10 January 2027. There is no second Scorpio spell this season to wait for.

The site’s pace table gives Mercury roughly 3 weeks to 2 months in a sign. This season stretches that range at both ends in turn: the Libra stay runs past the two-month end, and the Scorpio stay that follows it is a day short of three weeks.

A Retrograde That Never Left Libra

The Scorpio date arrives late because of what happened first. Mercury stationed retrograde on 24 October 2026 at 26.7° of Libra, moves backwards to 10.8° and stations direct there on 13 November 2026. The retrograde table lists a single sign for that window, Libra, and gives it 20 days, which happens to be exactly as long as the Scorpio spell that follows. Because the backward loop did not reach the Virgo boundary, there is no exit and re-entry to date; Mercury simply stays in Libra and covers the same stretch of it three times, forwards, backwards and forwards again.

The monthly position rows show how little ground that left for November. At the start of 1 November, Mercury stands 22.7° into Libra; at the start of 1 December, the day before the Scorpio entry, it stands at 27.5°. The net advance across the whole month is 4.8°. The pattern is particular to this year. In the same tables, Mercury’s next pass through Libra is split in two by a retrograde that does cross back into Virgo, and the two Libra spells come to 30 days and 21 days. The Scorpio spell after them is 19 days, one shorter than this one.

What the Two Clock Times Can Bear

Mercury is moving 1.47° a day at the Scorpio entry and 1.56° at the Sagittarius one, well clear of the 0.1°-a-day floor below which the site gives a date alone. At those rates one arcminute of longitude is worth about 16 minutes of clock at the entry and 15 minutes at the exit, so a calendar using a slightly different ayanamsa can land a quarter of an hour or more away from 17:24 or 07:36 for each arcminute of difference. The dates are sturdier. The entry falls in the evening and the exit in the morning, and moving either one across midnight would take a disagreement of at least 24 arcminutes. The stations and nakshatra crossings in the table above carry a date only, by the site’s rule. No monthly position row falls inside the Scorpio spell itself.

No Dignity for Mercury in Scorpio

The planet table gives Mercury Gemini and Virgo as its own signs, Virgo as its exaltation sign and Pisces as its debilitation sign. Scorpio is none of these, and the site’s placement reckoner files Mercury there as neutral. The sign table records Scorpio as ruled by Mars, with no graha exalted in it, and names it as the sign of the Moon’s debilitation; this page gives the sign and not the degree. Mercury and Mars in the Friendship Table

Entering Scorpio puts Mercury in a sign of Mars, and the natural-friendship rows for that pair do not match. Mercury’s row lists Mars as neutral; Mars’s row lists Mercury as an enemy. Mars itself stands in Leo for the whole of the Scorpio spell. The full set of rows, in both directions:

Venus is the only graha that Mercury’s row and its own row agree on as a friend. The other 5 rows, for the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, all disagree with Mercury’s in one direction or the other. The Sun Already in Scorpio, Venus One Sign Behind

Mercury does not have Scorpio to itself. The Sun enters it on 16 November 2026 and moves on into Sagittarius on 16 December 2026, so the two share the sign for 14 days, and Mercury spends the last 6 days of its spell there after the Sun has gone. In the friendship table that is another uneven pair: Mercury’s row lists the Sun as a friend, and the Sun’s row lists Mercury as neutral. Behind Mercury, in Libra, Venus enters on 22 November 2026 and does not reach Scorpio until 1 January 2027, after Mercury has already moved on into Sagittarius. Venus is the one two-way friend in the table above, and for the whole of this spell it occupies the sign Mercury has just left. The conjunction table holds no exact meeting between Mercury and any graha during the Scorpio spell.

Vishakha, Anuradha and Jyeshtha (नक्षत्र)

Mercury arrives in Scorpio inside Vishakha, the nakshatra that runs across the line between Libra and Scorpio. It is Mercury’s second time into Vishakha this season: it first crossed in on 12 October 2026, backs out into Swati on 3 November 2026 during the retrograde, and comes forward into Vishakha again on 25 November 2026. Inside Scorpio it crosses into Anuradha on 4 December 2026 and into Jyeshtha on 13 December 2026.

The nakshatra table gives the lords as Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury, and the planet table lists Jyeshtha among the three nakshatras of Mercury, with Ashlesha and Revati. So the last 9 days of the spell are spent in a nakshatra the tables assign to Mercury. Jyeshtha closes Scorpio and Moola, under Ketu, opens Sagittarius, so the crossing table dates Mercury’s entry into Moola to 22 December, the day of the sign change. Crossings are given by the day, and no pada is named.

Counting Scorpio From Your Moon Sign (चंद्र राशि से भाव)

In the gochara method a transit is counted from the janma rashi, the Moon’s sign at birth, taken as the 1st house.
