The Jupiter Mahadasha for Cancer Ascendant
16 years · Jupiter rules the 6th and 9th
The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Cancer ascendant Jupiter rules the 6th (Sagittarius) and the 9th (Pisces), so for Cancer the 16-year Jupiter mahadasha carries both a dusthana and an upachaya house and a trikona house.
Counted from Cancer, Jupiter is exalted in the 1st (Cancer) and debilitated in the 7th (Capricorn). The Moon, Cancer’s lagna lord, counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts the Moon a friend. Jupiter’s own nakshatras fall in Punarvasu (the 12th and 1st), Vishakha (the 4th and 5th) and Purva Bhadrapada (the 8th and 9th) for Cancer ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Jupiter mahadasha has its Moon.

| 7 | Jupiter–Moon | 1 year 4 months | the 1st |
| 8 | Jupiter–Mars | 11 months 6 days | the 5th and the 10th |
| 9 | Jupiter–Rahu | 2 years 4 months 24 days | no house |
For Cancer ascendant, three of the Jupiter mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Jupiter–Jupiter, Jupiter–Saturn and Jupiter–Mercury, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Jupiter–Jupiter and Jupiter–Mars. The sub-period of the Moon, Cancer’s lagna lord, is Jupiter–Moon, the seventh of nine, 1 year 4 months long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Cancer take 6 years 11 months 6 days (43%) of the Jupiter mahadasha’s 16 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 3 years 24 days (19%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Jupiter mahadasha for Cancer, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.
For a Cancer-rising chart this is the frame of the Jupiter mahadasha, not a forecast: where Jupiter and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
