The 5th Lord for Cancer Ascendant: Mars
5th house = Scorpio · lord Mars · also lord of the 10th
With Cancer rising, the 5th house is Scorpio, the 5th sign counted from Cancer, and Scorpio is ruled by Mars. So for Cancer ascendant the 5th lord is Mars, which also rules the 10th through Aries: one graha holds the 5th and the 10th together for this ascendant. The 5th is a trikona, and the 10th a kendra and an upachaya. That pairing puts a kendra and a trikona other than the 1st in one graha’s hands for Cancer ascendant.
The lagna lord, the Moon, counts Mars neutral, while Mars counts the Moon a friend: for Cancer ascendant the 1st and 5th lords do not see each other the same way. The 5th’s matters are children, creativity and arts, romance and higher learning; with Cancer rising they sit in Scorpio, a fixed water sign that is the 8th of the natural zodiac.
Scorpio as the 5th House of Cancer Ascendant
Scorpio exalts no graha in signs.js, so no graha is exalted in the 5th for Cancer ascendant; it debilitates the Moon at 3°, so the Moon is debilitated in the 5th. The house holds Vishakha (pada 4), Anuradha (all four padas) and Jyeshtha (all four padas), whose lords are Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury; Mars rules none of them. Opposite, across the chart, the 11th holds Taurus, ruled by Venus.
