The 5th Lord in the 12th House

The 5th lord in the 12th house is the ruler of the 5th, the Putra Bhava, placed in the 12th, the Vyaya / Moksha Bhava. The 5th is a trikona and the 12th a dusthana. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 5th, the 12th is the 8th house, which from any house is a dusthana position; counted back from the 12th, the 5th is the 6th, a dusthana and an upachaya position from it.

Where the 12th lord sits in the 5th in the same chart as the 5th lord in the 12th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Gemini (Venus) and Sagittarius (Mars) one graha rules both the 5th and the 12th, so there is nothing to exchange.
