The 5th Lord in the 6th House

The 5th lord in the 6th house is the ruler of the 5th, the Putra Bhava, placed in the 6th, the Ari / Shatru Bhava. The 5th is a trikona and the 6th a dusthana and an upachaya. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 5th, the 6th is the 2nd house; counted back from the 6th, the 5th is the 12th, a dusthana position from it.

Across the twelve ascendants the 5th lord in the 6th is in its own sign for Virgo, in a friend's sign for Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces, in a neutral sign for Aries, Gemini, Libra and Sagittarius, in an enemy's sign for Aquarius and debilitated for Leo. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Aries and Pisces, where one of them is the 5th lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 5th lord brings with it to the 6th.

For Virgo ascendant the 5th lord, Saturn, also rules the 6th, so in the 6th it sits in its own other sign, Aquarius.

For Cancer ascendant (Mars, ruling the 5th and 10th), Libra ascendant (Saturn, ruling the 4th and 5th) and Capricorn ascendant (Venus, ruling the 5th and 10th), the 5th lord rules both a kendra and a trikona other than the 1st, and in the 6th it is in a friend's sign for Cancer, in a neutral sign for Libra and in a friend's sign for Capricorn.

The Reverse: the 6th Lord in the 5th

Where the 6th lord sits in the 5th in the same chart as the 5th lord in the 6th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for eleven ascendants. For Virgo (Saturn) one graha rules both the 5th and the 6th, so there is nothing to exchange.
