The 5th Lord in the 10th House

The 5th lord in the 10th house is the ruler of the 5th, the Putra Bhava, placed in the 10th, the Karma Bhava. The 5th is a trikona and the 10th a kendra and an upachaya. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 5th, the 10th is the 6th house, which from any house is a dusthana and an upachaya position; counted back from the 10th, the 5th is the 8th, a dusthana position from it.

Where the 10th lord sits in the 5th in the same chart as the 5th lord in the 10th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Cancer (Mars) and Capricorn (Venus) one graha rules both the 5th and the 10th, so there is nothing to exchange.
