The 10th Lord in the 5th House

The 10th lord in the 5th house is the ruler of the 10th, the Karma Bhava, placed in the 5th, the Putra Bhava. The 10th is a kendra and an upachaya and the 5th a trikona. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 10th, the 5th is the 8th house, which from any house is a dusthana position; counted back from the 5th, the 10th is the 6th, a dusthana and an upachaya position from it.

Where the 5th lord sits in the 10th in the same chart as the 10th lord in the 5th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Cancer (Mars) and Capricorn (Venus) one graha rules both the 10th and the 5th, so there is nothing to exchange.
