The 10th Lord in the 11th House

The 10th lord in the 11th house is the ruler of the 10th, the Karma Bhava, placed in the 11th, the Labha Bhava. The 10th is a kendra and an upachaya and the 11th an upachaya. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 10th, the 11th is the 2nd house; counted back from the 11th, the 10th is the 12th, a dusthana position from it.

Across the twelve ascendants the 10th lord in the 11th is in its own sign for Aries, in a friend's sign for Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius, in a neutral sign for Taurus, Cancer, Scorpio and Capricorn, in an enemy's sign for Virgo and debilitated for Pisces. The Sun and the Moon rule one sign each, so for Libra and Scorpio, where one of them is the 10th lord, it rules no other house; for the other ten the last column gives the second house the 10th lord brings with it to the 11th.

For Aries ascendant the 10th lord, Saturn, also rules the 11th, so in the 11th it sits in its own other sign, Aquarius.

For Taurus ascendant (Saturn, ruling the 9th and 10th), Cancer ascendant (Mars, ruling the 5th and 10th) and Capricorn ascendant (Venus, ruling the 5th and 10th), the 10th lord rules both a kendra and a trikona other than the 1st, and in the 11th it is in a neutral sign for all three.

The Reverse: the 11th Lord in the 10th

Where the 11th lord sits in the 10th in the same chart as the 10th lord in the 11th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for eleven ascendants. For Aries (Saturn) one graha rules both the 10th and the 11th, so there is nothing to exchange.
