The 10th Lord in the 1st House

The 10th lord in the 1st house is the ruler of the 10th, the Karma Bhava, placed in the 1st, the Lagna / Tanu Bhava. The 10th is a kendra and an upachaya and the 1st a kendra and a trikona. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 10th, the 1st is the 4th house, which from any house is a kendra position; counted back from the 1st, the 10th is the 10th, a kendra and an upachaya position from it.

Where the 1st lord sits in the 10th in the same chart as the 10th lord in the 1st, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. That is possible for ten ascendants. For Virgo (Mercury) and Pisces (Jupiter) one graha rules both the 10th and the 1st, so there is nothing to exchange.
