The 5th Lord in the 7th House

The 5th lord in the 7th house is the ruler of the 5th, the Putra Bhava, placed in the 7th, the Kalatra Bhava. The 5th is a trikona and the 7th a kendra. Which graha that lord is depends on the ascendant, so the table below answers for all twelve.

Counted from the 5th, the 7th is the 3rd house, which from any house is an upachaya position; counted back from the 7th, the 5th is the 11th, an upachaya position from it.

Where the 7th lord sits in the 5th in the same chart as the 5th lord in the 7th, each lord occupies the other’s sign, an exchange the texts call parivartana. For all twelve ascendants the 5th and the 7th have different lords, so the exchange is possible whatever the ascendant.
