The Jupiter Mahadasha for Libra Ascendant
16 years · Jupiter rules the 3rd and 6th
The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Libra ascendant Jupiter rules the 3rd (Sagittarius) and the 6th (Pisces), so for Libra the 16-year Jupiter mahadasha carries both an upachaya house and a dusthana and an upachaya house.
Counted from Libra, Jupiter is exalted in the 10th (Cancer) and debilitated in the 4th (Capricorn). Venus, Libra’s lagna lord, counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Venus an enemy. Jupiter’s own nakshatras fall in Punarvasu (the 9th and 10th), Vishakha (the 1st and 2nd) and Purva Bhadrapada (the 5th and 6th) for Libra ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Jupiter mahadasha has its Moon.

For Libra ascendant, three of the Jupiter mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Jupiter–Jupiter, Jupiter–Mercury and Jupiter–Venus, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Jupiter–Saturn and Jupiter–Mercury. The sub-period of Venus, Libra’s lagna lord, is Jupiter–Venus, the fifth of nine, 2 years 8 months long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Libra take 7 years 24 days (44%) of the Jupiter mahadasha’s 16 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 4 years 9 months 18 days (30%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Jupiter mahadasha for Libra, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.
For a Libra-rising chart this is the frame of the Jupiter mahadasha, not a forecast: where Jupiter and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
