The 8th Lord for Libra Ascendant: Venus
8th house = Taurus · lord Venus · also lord of the 1st
With Libra rising, the 8th house is Taurus, the 8th sign counted from Libra, and Taurus is ruled by Venus. So for Libra ascendant the 8th lord is Venus, which also rules the 1st through Libra: one graha holds the 8th and the 1st together for this ascendant. The 8th is a dusthana, and the 1st a kendra and a trikona.
Venus is also the lagna lord of Libra ascendant, so the 8th and the 1st share one ruler. The 8th’s matters are sudden change, occult and research and inheritance; with Libra rising they sit in Taurus, a fixed earth sign that is the 2nd of the natural zodiac.
Taurus as the 8th House of Libra Ascendant
Taurus exalts the Moon, deepest at 3°, so for Libra ascendant the Moon is exalted in the 8th, and it debilitates none. The house holds Krittika (padas 2, 3 and 4), Rohini (all four padas) and Mrigashira (padas 1 and 2), whose lords are the Sun, the Moon and Mars; Venus rules none of them. Opposite, across the chart, the 2nd holds Scorpio, ruled by Mars.
Where Venus Is Strong and Weak, as Houses of Libra Ascendant
Counted from Libra, Venus is exalted in the 6th, debilitated in the 12th, and in its own sign in the 1st and the 8th. Exaltation and debilitation are always six signs apart, so for Libra ascendant the 8th lord’s best and worst houses face each other across the chart.
