The Jupiter Mahadasha for Sagittarius Ascendant

16 years · Jupiter rules the 1st and 4th

The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Sagittarius ascendant Jupiter rules the 1st (Sagittarius) and the 4th (Pisces), so for Sagittarius the 16-year Jupiter mahadasha carries both a kendra and a trikona house and a kendra house.

Counted from Sagittarius, Jupiter is exalted in the 8th (Cancer) and debilitated in the 2nd (Capricorn). Jupiter is also Sagittarius’s lagna lord, so for this ascendant the Jupiter mahadasha is the lagna lord’s own period. Jupiter’s own nakshatras fall in Punarvasu (the 7th and 8th), Vishakha (the 11th and 12th) and Purva Bhadrapada (the 3rd and 4th) for Sagittarius ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Jupiter mahadasha has its Moon.

For Sagittarius ascendant, three of the Jupiter mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Jupiter–Venus, Jupiter–Moon and Jupiter–Mars, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Jupiter–Sun and Jupiter–Mars. The sub-period of Jupiter, Sagittarius’s lagna lord, is Jupiter–Jupiter, the first of nine, 2 years 1 month 18 days long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Sagittarius take 4 years 11 months 6 days (31%) of the Jupiter mahadasha’s 16 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 1 year 8 months 24 days (11%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Jupiter mahadasha for Sagittarius, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.

For a Sagittarius-rising chart this is the frame of the Jupiter mahadasha, not a forecast: where Jupiter and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
