The 10th Lord for Sagittarius Ascendant: Mercury
10th house = Virgo · lord Mercury · also lord of the 7th
With Sagittarius rising, the 10th house is Virgo, the 10th sign counted from Sagittarius, and Virgo is ruled by Mercury. So for Sagittarius ascendant the 10th lord is Mercury, which also rules the 7th through Gemini: one graha holds the 10th and the 7th together for this ascendant. The 10th is a kendra and an upachaya, and the 7th a kendra.
The lagna lord, Jupiter, counts Mercury an enemy, while Mercury counts Jupiter neutral: for Sagittarius ascendant the 1st and 10th lords do not see each other the same way. The 10th’s matters are career and profession, public reputation, authority and achievements; with Sagittarius rising they sit in Virgo, a dual earth sign that is the 6th of the natural zodiac.
Virgo as the 10th House of Sagittarius Ascendant
Virgo exalts Mercury, deepest at 15°, so for Sagittarius ascendant Mercury is exalted in the 10th; it debilitates Venus at 27°, so Venus is debilitated in the 10th.
