The Jupiter Mahadasha for Taurus Ascendant

16 years · Jupiter rules the 8th and 11th

The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Taurus ascendant Jupiter rules the 8th (Sagittarius) and the 11th (Pisces), so for Taurus the 16-year Jupiter mahadasha carries both a dusthana house and an upachaya house.

Counted from Taurus, Jupiter is exalted in the 3rd (Cancer) and debilitated in the 9th (Capricorn). Venus, Taurus’s lagna lord, counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Venus an enemy. Jupiter’s own nakshatras fall in Punarvasu (the 2nd and 3rd), Vishakha (the 6th and 7th) and Purva Bhadrapada (the 10th and 11th) for Taurus ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Jupiter mahadasha has its Moon.

For Taurus ascendant, three of the Jupiter mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Jupiter–Jupiter, Jupiter–Venus and Jupiter–Mars, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Jupiter–Saturn and Jupiter–Mercury. The sub-period of Venus, Taurus’s lagna lord, is Jupiter–Venus, the fifth of nine, 2 years 8 months long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Taurus take 5 years 8 months 24 days (36%) of the Jupiter mahadasha’s 16 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 4 years 9 months 18 days (30%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Jupiter mahadasha for Taurus, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.

For a Taurus-rising chart this is the frame of the Jupiter mahadasha, not a forecast: where Jupiter and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
