Where the 3rd and 4th Lordship Comes From

Saturn owns Capricorn and Aquarius. Counting from Scorpio as the first house, Capricorn is the 3rd and Aquarius is the 4th — which is the whole of it. Two signs, two houses — the 3rd and the 4th from Scorpio — and the verdict on blue sapphire turns on which of the two carries more weight.

Neither of these is a trikona or a dusthana, so the rule that decides most cases does not apply. Blue sapphire is not contraindicated for Scorpio and it is not indicated either — it becomes relevant only if Saturn is specifically afflicted in the chart, or if a dasha of Saturn is running.

That is a stricter line than this page takes, and the difference is worth naming. The trikona and dusthana test this page runs finds no verdict in the 3rd and the 4th, so the Scorpio page is weighing something the house lordship alone does not carry. On this combination there is a further reason to take the stricter reading seriously: it cannot be worn alongside red coral, the Scorpio primary stone. Neither page overrules the other: the lordship does not forbid blue sapphire, and nothing on this page is a case for wearing it without a reading.

Wearing It Alongside Red Coral

Red Coral is the Scorpio primary stone, because Mars rules Scorpio (Vrishchika) and owns the 1st and the 6th from it. So the pairing a Scorpio native is most likely to consider is blue sapphire with red coral, and whether that is allowed depends on how Saturn and Mars rate each other.

Saturn counts Mars an enemy while Mars rates Saturn neutral. Parashari friendship is not symmetric — eleven of the twenty-one graha pairs rate each other differently in the two directions, and seven of those eleven are a one-sided enmity exactly like this one. Selecting a stone by janma nakshatra is the more precise route, because it pins the birth Moon to one nakshatra instead of a whole sign. Three nakshatras touch Scorpio — but a sign is nine padas of 3°20′ and the three divide them unevenly, not into thirds. Anuradha (Scorpio 3°20′ – 16°40′) is ruled by Saturn, and covers four of the nine.

So there is a real disagreement for those births: the nakshatra lord is Saturn, which argues for blue sapphire, while the 3rd and the 4th from the ascendant argue against it. Neither route overrules the other on paper. In practice the ascendant's lordship is what a reading weighs first, and a birth under Anuradha is the one circumstance in which a Scorpio native might be pointed at blue sapphire anyway.

What a Scorpio Ascendant Should Wear Instead

A graha owning neither a trikona nor a dusthana from Scorpio has no particular work to do for that ascendant, and Saturn is in exactly that position here. These stones do have work to do.

The Ascendants Blue Sapphire Reads Differently For
