Where the 10th and 11th Lordship Comes From

Saturn owns Capricorn and Aquarius. Counting from Aries as the first house, Capricorn is the 10th and Aquarius is the 11th — which is the whole of it. Two signs, two houses — the 10th and the 11th from Aries — and the verdict on blue sapphire turns on which of the two carries more weight.

Neither of these is a trikona or a dusthana, so the rule that decides most cases does not apply. Blue sapphire is not contraindicated for Aries and it is not indicated either — it becomes relevant only if Saturn is specifically afflicted in the chart, or if a dasha of Saturn is running.

The Aries gemstone page states this as a single line — “Blue Sapphire — Saturn rules the 11th” — and lists it among the stones to avoid for this ascendant.

That is a stricter line than this page takes, and the difference is worth naming. The Aries page puts 11th-lordship on its avoid side, and it does so consistently — in all twelve places on the grid where a graha owns the 11th from an ascendant, its stone is on that ascendant's avoid list and never on its good one. The trikona and dusthana test this page runs says nothing about the 11th in either direction. On this combination there is a further reason to take the stricter reading seriously: it cannot be worn alongside red coral, the Aries primary stone, Saturn is debilitated in Aries and Saturn owns the badhaka house from here. Neither page overrules the other: the lordship does not forbid blue sapphire, and nothing on this page is a case for wearing it without a reading.

Wearing It Alongside Red Coral

Red Coral is the Aries primary stone, because Mars rules Aries (Mesha) and owns the 1st and the 8th from it. So the pairing an Aries native is most likely to consider is blue sapphire with red coral, and whether that is allowed depends on how Saturn and Mars rate each other.

Saturn counts Mars an enemy while Mars rates Saturn neutral. Parashari friendship is not symmetric — eleven of the twenty-one graha pairs rate each other differently in the two directions, and seven of those eleven are a one-sided enmity exactly like this one. Tradition does not split the difference: one-way enmity is enough to rule the combination out, so an Aries native should not wear blue sapphire and red coral together.

On blue sapphire generally: The one stone tradition insists you trial-wear. Tie it to the arm or wear it for three to seven days first. Neelam is held to act fastest of the nine and in either direction, and it must never be combined with Ruby, Pearl or Red Coral.

That is the awkward fact about this combination: the graha whose stone is under discussion sits in its weakest sign for exactly this ascendant. The lordship of the 10th and the 11th argues neither for blue sapphire nor against it, so the debilitation is the only thing on the scale at all — which is why this page stops where it does rather than at a recommendation.

What an Aries Ascendant Should Wear Instead

A graha owning neither a trikona nor a dusthana from Aries has no particular work to do for that ascendant, and Saturn is in exactly that position here. These stones do have work to do.

Mars is both your lagna lord and the 8th lord here, which is why Aries natives are told coral both energises and inflames. The safer combination for an Aries ascendant is coral with yellow sapphire, never coral with blue sapphire.

If the appeal is blue sapphire itself rather than Saturn, its upratna is amethyst — a substitute of the same graha with a far milder effect, which is the usual compromise where the primary stone is contraindicated.

The Ascendants Blue Sapphire Reads Differently For

The same stone is not the same advice from every ascendant, and blue sapphire is a clear example. From Aries it is neither indicated nor forbidden.
