Yellow Sapphire for an Aries Ascendant
पुष्पराग · Pukhraj · Jupiter owns the 9th and the 12th from Aries
The verdict
The Split Verdict
For an Aries ascendant, Jupiter owns the 9th and the 12th, the 9th is a trikona and the 12th a dusthana, so the two lordships pull against each other — which makes Pukhraj a genuinely split verdict that needs the chart to settle.
This is the rule for Aries (Mesha) read as an ascendant. Whether yellow sapphire is actually your stone depends on where Jupiter sits in that chart — owning the 9th and the 12th is not the same as occupying the 9th and the 12th — how strong it is, and which dasha you are running. That is a reading, not a table lookup.

Where the 9th and 12th Lordship Comes From
Jupiter owns Sagittarius and Pisces. Counting from Aries as the first house, Sagittarius is the 9th and Pisces is the 12th — which is the whole of it. Two signs, two houses — the 9th and the 12th from Aries — and the verdict on yellow sapphire turns on which of the two carries more weight.
Aries is the case the one-line tables cannot handle. The 9th is a trikona and argues for the stone; the 12th is a dusthana and argues against it. The Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra holds trikona lordship the stronger of the two, so the 9th carries and the verdict leans favourable. But leaning is not the same as settled, and an Aries native with Jupiter in the 12th is not the same case as one with Jupiter well placed.
The Aries gemstone page states this as a single line — “Yellow Sapphire (Jupiter, 9th lord)” — and lists it among the stones that help this ascendant.
Wearing It Alongside Red Coral
Red Coral is the Aries primary stone, because Mars rules Aries (Mesha) and owns the 1st and the 8th from it. So the pairing an Aries native is most likely to consider is yellow sapphire with red coral, and whether that is allowed depends on how Jupiter and Mars rate each other.
Jupiter rates Mars a friend, and Mars rates Jupiter a friend. No enmity in either direction, so the combination is permitted — and mutual friendship is the strongest footing a pairing can have.
On yellow sapphire generally: Widely regarded as the safest of the nine to wear, which is why it is over-prescribed. It still strengthens one specific graha and should match your chart.
Jupiter in Aries Itself
House lordship is one axis and sign dignity is another, and for an Aries ascendant they do not always agree. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and debilitated in Capricorn, and Aries is neither. So there is no dignity bonus and no dignity penalty for an Aries ascendant, and the verdict on yellow sapphire rests entirely on the 9th and the 12th.
Jupiter governs wisdom, dharma, wealth, children and teachers, and its mahadasha runs 16 years. For an Aries native those years read through the 9th and the 12th — which is the practical reason the lordship above matters more than the stone's reputation does.
How to Wear It as an Aries Ascendant
- Fix the weight first — roughly one ratti per ten kilograms of body weight, three to five ratti as a practical minimum. Confirm whether the quote is in the 0.9-carat ratti or the traditional 0.12-gram one.
- Judge the stone before the setting. The most forgiving of the premium stones — good yellow sapphire is genuinely available at a fair price. Look for even colour with no zoning, eye-clean transparency and no milky cloud. Yellow topaz is often mis-sold as Pukhraj; they are different minerals and topaz is not the substitute for Jupiter. Colour to expect: lemon to warm golden yellow, evenly distributed.
- Set it in gold with the back left open so the stone rests on skin, and wear it on the index finger of the right hand. These follow Jupiter, not Aries, so they differ from what the Aries primary stone asks for.
- Wash the ring in raw milk, honey, ghee, curd and clean water, place it before Brihaspati, and chant ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः — Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah — 19,000 times, or have the japa performed for you.
- Put it on for the first time on Thursday morning, and fast on Thursday to support the same graha.
- You may keep red coral, the Aries primary stone, on at the same time, since Jupiter and Mars carry no enmity either way. Observe the first thirty days and remove it if anything worsens sharply.
Because the 9th and the 12th pulls in two directions from Aries, the trial matters more here than it does for a straightforward recommendation. Tie the stone to the arm or wear it for three to seven days before committing to a setting.
The Ascendants Yellow Sapphire Reads Differently For
The same stone is not the same advice from every ascendant, and yellow sapphire is a clear example. From Aries the verdict is split rather than settled. The two ascendants below read differently, and nothing about Jupiter or about yellow sapphire has changed: Sagittarius and Pisces land on different houses when the counting starts from a different lagna.
Jupiter owns the 8th and the 11th from Taurus — a stone to avoid.
Jupiter owns the 3rd and the 6th from Libra — a stone to avoid.

Everything above follows from Aries being the ascendant and nothing else. Jupiter owning the 9th and the 12th is not the same as Jupiter sitting there; where it actually sits, whether it is combust or retrograde, and which dasha is running can move this verdict either way.
