The Sun Mahadasha for Aries Ascendant

6 years · Sun rules the 5th

The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Aries ascendant the Sun rules only the 5th (Leo), a trikona house, so for Aries the 6-year Sun mahadasha carries a single lordship.

Counted from Aries, the Sun is exalted in the 1st (Aries) and debilitated in the 7th (Libra). Mars, Aries’s lagna lord, and the Sun count each other a friend. The Sun’s own nakshatras fall in Krittika (the 1st and 2nd), Uttara Phalguni (the 5th and 6th) and Uttara Ashadha (the 9th and 10th) for Aries ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Sun mahadasha has its Moon.

For Aries ascendant, three of the Sun mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Sun–Mars, Sun–Jupiter and Sun–Mercury, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Sun–Sun and Sun–Jupiter. The sub-period of Mars, Aries’s lagna lord, is Sun–Mars, the third of nine, 4 months 6 days long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Aries take 2 years (33%) of the Sun mahadasha’s 6 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 1 year 1 month 6 days (18%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Sun mahadasha for Aries, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.

For an Aries-rising chart this is the frame of the Sun mahadasha, not a forecast: where the Sun and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
