The Jupiter Mahadasha for Virgo Ascendant
16 years · Jupiter rules the 4th and 7th
The Parashari way to read a mahadasha for a given ascendant starts with the houses its lord holds. For Virgo ascendant Jupiter rules the 4th (Sagittarius) and the 7th (Pisces), so for Virgo the 16-year Jupiter mahadasha carries both a kendra house and a kendra house.
Counted from Virgo, Jupiter is exalted in the 11th (Cancer) and debilitated in the 5th (Capricorn). Mercury, Virgo’s lagna lord, counts Jupiter neutral; Jupiter counts Mercury an enemy. Jupiter’s own nakshatras fall in Punarvasu (the 10th and 11th), Vishakha (the 2nd and 3rd) and Purva Bhadrapada (the 6th and 7th) for Virgo ascendant, which is where a birth that opens in the Jupiter mahadasha has its Moon.

For Virgo ascendant, three of the Jupiter mahadasha’s sub-periods belong to lords of a dusthana (the 6th, 8th or 12th): Jupiter–Saturn, Jupiter–Sun and Jupiter–Mars, and two to lords of a trikona other than the 1st: Jupiter–Saturn and Jupiter–Venus. The sub-period of Mercury, Virgo’s lagna lord, is Jupiter–Mercury, the third of nine, 2 years 3 months 6 days long. Counted in time, sub-periods whose lords hold a dusthana for Virgo take 4 years 3 months 6 days (27%) of the Jupiter mahadasha’s 16 years, and those whose lords hold a trikona other than the 1st take 5 years 2 months 12 days (32%); a lord holding both is counted in both. In the Jupiter mahadasha for Virgo, the Rahu and Ketu sub-periods are read through their dispositors in the chart, since neither node rules a house.
For a Virgo-rising chart this is the frame of the Jupiter mahadasha, not a forecast: where Jupiter and each sub-period lord actually sit, and their dignity there, decide what it comes to, and this page cannot know either.
