Capricorn Rashifal January 2027 (Makar Rashi): Makar Sankranti Falls on Your Own Sign
Published 2026-08-20 | Live Pandit Ji
Makar Sankranti is named after your sign. The festival marks the Sun’s entry into Makar — Capricorn — and in 2027 that entry happens at 9:05 pm on Thursday 14 January. For the other eleven signs it is a calendar event. For Makar Rashi it is the Sun arriving on your own rashi, which happens once a year and is the single clearest solar marker your chart has.
It does not arrive alone. Mercury reached Capricorn four days earlier, just after midnight on the 10th, and Rahu has been sitting on your sign since 5 December 2026. So from the 14th, three bodies occupy Makar Rashi at once. And on Monday 25 January at 2:15 am, Jupiter reaches its exaltation in Cancer — your seventh house — which is the event the December reading flagged as the best news in this entire eighteen-month period. It is now here.
The Sankranti Ingress Lands on Makar Rashi
The Sun spends the first fortnight of January in Sagittarius, your twelfth house, which is the quietest placement it gets all year for your sign. Then it crosses the Capricorn boundary at 9:05 pm on the 14th and spends the rest of the month on your rashi. This is a computed sidereal instant, not an approximation, and it is why Sankranti is a fixed mid-January festival rather than one that moves with the Moon.
The Sun in the first house from the natal Moon raises visibility and it raises heat. You are seen more clearly, spoken about more, and asked to account for yourself more. It also tends to make you less patient with other people’s pace — which for Makar Rashi, a sign that already runs on schedule and expects others to, is a known friction. The second half of January is your visible half. Put anything that needs to be noticed into it.
Three Bodies on Your Rashi at Once
Mercury enters Capricorn at 12:34 am on Sunday 10 January and stays until 3:30 am on Thursday 28 January, when it moves on to Aquarius, your second house. That gives you eighteen days of Mercury on your own sign, and from the 14th it shares the sign with the Sun. Mercury on the first house sharpens articulation: this is the stretch in which you will explain yourself best, which makes it the right window for the interview, the pitch, the document that has to persuade.
Rahu is the complication. It arrived on Capricorn at 10:34 pm on 5 December 2026 — its first visit to your sign since 30 April 2008 — and it holds the sign until 24 June 2028. Rahu on the first house amplifies ambition and quietly removes the internal signal that would normally tell you when you have taken on enough. Add the Sun and Mercury from mid-month and you get a fortnight in which you are visible, articulate, and systematically overcommitting. All three of those are true at the same time, and the third is the one you will not notice.
The practical instruction is narrow. In the second half of January, say yes to fewer things than feel reasonable, because the count that feels reasonable is being set by Rahu. Our Rahu remedies page has the observances, and since Ketu sits opposite in your seventh house, the joint Rahu-Ketu forms apply here more than they usually would.
Jupiter Reaches Its Exaltation in Your Seventh House
Jupiter has been in Leo, your eighth house, and turned retrograde there on 13 December 2026. Backward motion carries it out of Leo and into Cancer at 2:15 am on Monday 25 January. Cancer is Jupiter’s sign of exaltation and, counted from Capricorn, it is your seventh house — marriage, partnership, contracts, the other side of the table.
An exalted Jupiter in the seventh is one of the better arrangements available for that house. It supports marriage, improves the quality of the people who come to the table, and makes agreements more generous than they need to be. For Makar Rashi it matters especially because Ketu has been in your seventh since December, quietly draining interest from the relationship department. Jupiter arriving in the same sign supplies what Ketu takes away. The Full Moon of Friday the 22nd also falls in this house, three days ahead of Jupiter, at 8° of Cancer in Pushya — so the seventh house gets a spotlight and then a benefit, in that order.
The date to write down is not the start but the end. Because Jupiter reverses into Cancer instead of walking in, this exaltation lasts only until 26 June 2027 — five months, against the thirteen a Jupiter sign transit normally runs. The previous Cancer visit ran from 19 June 2014 to 14 July 2015. The next one is in 2038. If there is a marriage, a partnership, a contract or a settlement that wants the best available conditions, the window is 25 January to 26 June 2027.
Your Ruler Is in a Favourable House — Until June
Saturn rules Makar Rashi and spends January in Pisces, which is your third house. The third is one of the three houses — the 3rd, 6th and 11th — in which Saturn’s transit is read as constructive rather than obstructive. Effort put in accumulates instead of resetting. Saturn turned direct there on 11 December 2026, so the whole of January runs with your ruler moving forward in one of its good houses. This is the quiet structural advantage of your chart at the moment, and it is easy to miss because nothing dramatic marks it.
It ends on a date worth knowing. Saturn reaches Aries on 3 June 2027, and Aries is the fourth house from Capricorn. Saturn transiting the fourth from the natal Moon is Kantaka Shani — the thorn — which affects home, property, mother and peace of mind, and is the second of the three Saturn transits the tradition names for difficulty. So the favourable stretch you are in now has an expiry date of 3 June 2027. Saturn then retreats into Pisces on 20 October 2027, giving you about four more months of the good placement, and settles into Aries for good on 23 February 2028.
The useful conclusion: anything that depends on sustained effort — a qualification, a build, a business that needs eighteen months of grind — should be started while Saturn is still in your third house, and January is early in that window rather than late. Our Shani remedies page covers the observances, and Saturday fasting suits Makar natives particularly.
Mars Turns Retrograde in Your Eighth House
Mars is in Leo, your eighth house, and turns retrograde at 6:24 pm on Sunday 10 January. Mars does this only about once every two years. The eighth house covers joint finances, debt, inheritance, insurance and anything held in someone else’s name, and a retrograde Mars there makes force ineffective in exactly that department.
Concretely: do not press a shared-money matter between the 10th and the spring. Chase a settlement procedurally rather than aggressively. If a loan, a claim or a division of assets is in progress, expect it to take longer and do not accelerate it by escalating, which is the move that will occur to you. Mars keeps reversing into your seventh house — into Cancer, where it is debilitated — on 10 March 2027, turns direct on 1 April, and returns to the eighth on 26 April.

Week by Week
1–7 January
A deliberately quiet opening. The Sun and Mercury are both in your twelfth house and Venus leaves your tenth late on the 1st, ending the strong career placement December gave you. Nothing structural moves in this week, and it is not the week to force anything visible. Saturn in your third house means preparation done now holds, so use it for groundwork.
8–14 January
The week the month turns over. The New Moon in your twelfth house on Friday the 8th is a reset you will barely feel — twelfth-house lunations work inwardly. Sunday the 10th brings Mercury onto your rashi after midnight and Mars into retrograde in your eighth house that evening. Then Thursday the 14th at 9:05 pm is the Sankranti ingress and your visible half of the month begins. From the 15th you are being watched more than you were.
15–22 January
The strongest week of the month for anything that needs you to be persuasive. Sun and Mercury are both on your rashi, which is the best combination Makar gets for explaining itself, and Saturn is moving forward in a favourable house. The caution is Rahu, also on your sign, which will make the volume of commitment feel manageable when it is not. The Full Moon of Friday the 22nd lands in your seventh house and puts a partnership matter in the open.
23–31 January
The best week of the month for relationships and agreements. Jupiter enters your seventh house exalted at 2:15 am on Monday the 25th, and it is joining a house that Ketu has been draining since December. Marriage discussions, partnership terms and contracts all sit better from this date than before it. Mercury leaves your rashi on the 28th, which takes some of the articulacy away, so the conversations worth having are better placed on the 25th, 26th and 27th than at the very end of the month.
Career and Money for Makar Rashi
December gave you a dignified Venus in your tenth house for all thirty-one days. That ended twenty-three hours into January, and nothing replaces it in the tenth. What January offers instead is first-house strength: the Sun and Mercury on your own sign from mid-month, which advances you through visibility and argument rather than through favourable circumstances. Use the fortnight from the 14th for the case you need to make.
Money splits cleanly. Personal income is unremarkable — Venus passes through your eleventh house from 1 January to 29 January, which is mildly supportive of gains through networks. Joint money is the problem area, with Saturn’s general slowness now joined by a retrograde Mars in the eighth from the 10th. Keep every shared financial matter documented and unhurried this month.
Relationships and Family
This is the month the seventh house improves, and Makar natives who have found the last two months flat in that department should know why. Ketu entered your seventh on 5 December 2026 and stays until June 2028; Ketu there withdraws interest rather than creating conflict, and the effect is a relationship that feels quietly optional. Rahu opposite, on your own sign, points all the hunger at your own ambitions instead.
Jupiter arriving exalted in the same seventh house on 25 January does not remove Ketu, but it is the strongest counterweight available and it is present for five months. If the relationship needs a serious conversation or a formal step, the window from 25 January to 26 June 2027 is materially better than what comes before or after it. Remedies for a weak Ketu are worth reading alongside this.
Health
The Sun and Rahu together on the first house from the 14th is the combination to watch, and the mechanism is over-extension rather than illness. Rahu removes the fatigue signal and the Sun raises the pace, so the second half of January is when Makar natives work through something they should have rested. Fix sleep in the first fortnight, while it still feels unnecessary, and it will hold through the second.
Remedies for Makar Rashi in January 2027
The order follows the sky: manage the Rahu on your rashi, support the exalted Jupiter arriving in your seventh, and use the favourable Saturn while it lasts.
- Rahu observance, all month: Rahu is on your own rashi until June 2028. Black or mixed grains given away, a coconut offered to running water, and mustard oil are the classical forms. Our Rahu remedies page has the full set.
- Guru worship on the four Thursdays — 7, 14, 21 and 28 January: Jupiter reaches its exaltation in your seventh house on the 25th, so the 28th is the first Thursday of the new placement and the one to keep if you keep only one. Chana dal and turmeric on the Thursday, with a yellow cloth given in the name of the partnership rather than your own. Our remedies for a weak Jupiter set out the rest.
- Say yes to fewer things after the 14th: the practical counter to Rahu on the rashi with the Sun and Mercury joining it. The number that feels sustainable is being set by the transit. Decide the limit in the first fortnight and hold it in the second.
- Saturday observance for Shani — 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 January: Saturn rules Makar Rashi and is moving forward in your third house, one of its three favourable transit houses, until June. Black til and iron with sesame oil, and a lamp under the peepal after sunset. Our Shani remedies page covers it.
- Start the long thing now, not in the summer: not a ritual, and possibly the most valuable line here. Saturn leaves your third house on 3 June 2027 for Kantaka Shani in your fourth. Anything needing eighteen months of steady effort should be under way before then.
- Put the relationship step inside the five months: Jupiter is exalted in your seventh house from 25 January to 26 June 2027, and the next Cancer visit is 2038. If a formal step is coming, it belongs in that window.
- Do not escalate a shared-money matter: the direct counter to a retrograde Mars in the eighth house from the 10th. Procedure will move it; pressure will not.
- Sunday observance for the Sun — 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 January: your rashi receives the Sun at the Sankranti ingress on the 14th, and the three Sundays after it fall with the Sun on your own sign. Water offered at sunrise, wheat, jaggery. See our Sun page.
In Summary
January 2027 is Makar Rashi’s month in the most literal sense: the Makar Sankranti ingress at 9:05 pm on Thursday the 14th is the Sun arriving on your own sign, and from that instant three bodies occupy Capricorn — the Sun, Mercury since the 10th, and Rahu since December. That makes the second fortnight your most visible and most articulate stretch of the year, and also the one in which you will agree to more than you can carry without noticing.
The month’s best event is on the 25th. Jupiter enters Cancer exalted at 2:15 am and takes your seventh house, joining the Ketu that has been sitting there since December and draining interest from your relationships. This is the counterweight, it is the strongest form of Jupiter there is, and it lasts only until 26 June 2027 — five months rather than the usual thirteen, with the next Cancer transit in 2038. Formal steps in partnership or marriage belong inside it.
Two things ask for restraint. Mars turns retrograde in your eighth house at 6:24 pm on Sunday the 10th, so shared money, claims and settlements will not respond to pressure for the rest of the quarter. And your ruler Saturn, currently moving forward in the favourable third house, leaves it on 3 June 2027 for Kantaka Shani in your fourth. Anything that needs a long run of steady effort should start while the third-house Saturn still holds.
How strongly the Sun-and-Rahu fortnight lands depends on your natal Moon’s exact degree and on which of the nine Capricorn padas holds it — the days on which the Sun crosses your own degree are a different order of experience from the rest of the fortnight. What the Capricorn rashi fixes and what it leaves open sets out the pada detail, the Rahu-Ketu transit guide covers the axis across all twelve signs, and the December reading traces how the month arrived here.
When does the Sun cross your Moon’s own degree?
The Sun spends the second half of January on Makar Rashi, but the sharp days are the ones it spends on your natal Moon’s exact degree. A chart reading gives you those dates instead of the fortnight’s average.
